Prophet Muhammad endured the most violent and humiliating persecution for 13 years in Makkah by the polytheistic tribes and he never reacted, and he prohibited his companions and the early Muslims, from acting in any way, like some Muslims today react, when someone makes fun of prophet Muhammad or draws a cartoon of him. In Islam, you are supposed to ignore such ridiculous insults and criticism.

This was very informative I never realized the name 'Rushdie' is from Ibn Rushd.. Do you think you could ever do a series on one of his volumes like you used to do for certain scholars back in the day? When you do more serious work like that it's literally some of the best quality stuff on KZbin from the Islamic sphere

Unfortunately a lot of people attack Islam/ the prophet based on Muslims own corrupt literature... its time we rid these things from our libraries that conflict with the quran (yet sectarianism means this won't happen- and when you call out these obvious insults to the deen, you get name called and shamed).

Problem is these sects emerge from their limited narrow worldviews. If we go to the time of the Sahabah, they only had the Qur'an and no other book alongside it. So when they used the term sunnah...they understood very well what it meant.... the commandments. Establish the deen, establish salah, give zakah, do hajj, do umrah, recite Qur'an, shun impurities, do not insult people...all can be broken down into 2 types of commandments (amr) and (nahi) meaning positive and negative commandments. Sunnah used to mean trodden path (I.e.) how to do something or fulfill it. So alongside the quranic commandments was how to fulfill the commandments(sunnah)...the practical version of fulfilling and applying these things. These sects live off people having broken arabic or no arabic that's why they can bullshit people. They have sectarian interests. In DEEN ( meaning way of life or system) sects don't even emerge. There were no sects in the time of the sahabah bar the khawarij except the were crushed by the state.

Disagree that Rushdie was irrelevant before this or forgotten. He has been fairly prolific in his writing and been active in delivering talks at the behest of foreign governments. In 2016 a Durban Muslim author Z.Dala nominated him as her hero on her book promotional tour and visited a Muslim majority school. During a Q&A a student asked her who her hero was and the entire hall walked out. A few days later she was seriously assaulted by a Muslim man who punched her repeatedly in the face after forcing her off the road resulting in serious injury. He's certainly been prominent behind the scenes.

His book is also rubbish. It's clumsily written and leaves intelligent experienced readers with the distinct impression that someone with a pretty banal and stilted view of certain foreign cultures, has pretended the book was being written by someone whose native tongue was not English. In other words, it is pretentious and gulling people into thinking 'Oh V.S. Naipaul'-thing, or Chinua Achebe.' You are 100% right there when you began to have difficulties around 5 minutes in, trying to say what you wanted to say. We need to take him, Rushdie, at his word when he said in many interviews: 'Oh but I wasn't setting out to offend Islam and Muslims, this is a story about someone losing their faith...' And there you have it. This is typical OxCam nonsense shoving down naive people's throats this same old 'atheist realism(!)' that is designed to trick people into becoming super uncritical and imagining they were being 'realistic.' It has nothing at all specifically to do with Islam ALONE - this is about ANY kinds of primary moral philosophy, versus the moral relativism of middle class 'City of London' mercantile elites and pseudo-academics, who have though, taken over the UK totally, and in particular academia. The only thing 'Satanic' about 'The Satanic Verses' is Rushdie himself and the board of directors of Oxford Press and never ever forget, these kinds of books are NOT published by some old editor/publisher sitting in a dingy office somewhere - this is done by an entire board of senior people who all sit around having brandy and cigars and talk over every single aspect of the political effects and consequences. They know EXACTLY what they are doing. You were TOTALLY onto it, MALM. This is about 'McFreedom' of 'McSpeech' not actual Freedom of Speech. Let them talk about how the American government banned and burned TONS of books by the Austrian medical doctor and psychologist who said that politicians and government leaders were unable to be sexually satisfied and were motivated by exercising their power.

Hi Mufti, American here. Salman Rushdie is correct: the 1st amendment establishes that speech is protected. Libel and slander are not but racist remarks do not fall under that category in American law. It is not illegal to host a website or hold an event that centers around glorification of racism. However, it's doubtful any venue would host such an event.
@kraf9132

Still people can take racists to court there is a long list of things they can be prosecuted for from inciting violence to harassment to whatever and as we all know the more skilled and expensive the lawyer the more likely those people (who let’s say in this example you put forth) are racists will actually be prosecuted for something. Same can apply to other things such as sexual minorities religion disabled or protected groups and just people in general regardless of skin color. For example racist all nonwhite but anti white conference would be shut down one way or another and expect court cases. Same could apple to an all non black anti black conference. Public events are liable to have public prosecutions against them. Yes even in the USA, free speech that is protected by the Amendment but falls under breaking another law and depending on the state and local authority could still be liable for damages on other things even though it is free speech it could break other laws.

Muslims want God to be one. That is an honorable sentiment, because God is ready one. But the problem for Muslims is this: “The kind of ‘one’ that Muslims want God to be does not exit, cannot exist, and has never existed. No human being, no science, and no technology knows the kind of ‘one’ that Muslims want God to be. * From the beginning of creation, all peoples, all tribes, and all nations have understood the word “one” as that which is singular (or alone); but has within its singularity (or aloneness) a “unity” and a “diversity”. Example: The water molecule is one (single, alone). But within the “oneness” of the water molecule, there are two different chemical elements: (1) Hydrogen and (2) Oxygen or (H2O). In Islam, this is considered “SHIRK” - the un-forgivable sin of joining partners to the water molecule. * Consider “Time”: Time is one (single, alone). But within the “oneness” of time, there are three different periods: (1) Past, (2) Present, and (3) Future. And each period within time is referred to as “Time”. In other words, the past is referred to as “Time”, the present is referred to as “Time”, and the future is referred to as “Time”. But there is only one “Time” running from creation to eternity future. Again, Islamic scholars consider this a “SHIRK” - the un-forgivable sin of joining partners to Time. * If you tell a Muslim, according to the Bible, God made you in “The Image and the Likeness of Himself” in the sense that you, too, are a trinity: (1) body, (2) spirit, and (3) soul. In fact, your body, by itself, is you; your spirit, by itself, is you; and your soul, by itself, is you. But however, your body is different from your spirit; and your spirit is different from your soul. The Muslim will accuse you of blaspheming or “SHIRK” - the un-forgivable sin of joining partners to yourself by making yourself into three different human beings. * Both the Science of Mathematics and the Science of Natural Laws define the word “one” as that which is single (or alone); but has within its singularity (or aloneness) unity and diversity. Examples: one apple, one banana, one cup, one bird, one Kaaba, one moon, one fish, one TV, one universe, one bee, and so on. But the Muslim, in order to escape hell-fire, rejects all examples for the word “one”; and calls it “SHIRK” - the un-forgivable sin of joining partners to each one of them. * Interestingly, five times a day, every Muslim around the world prays directly to the “Black Stone” which is located in the most sacred and holy spot in all of Islam - the Yamini corner of the Kaaba. The “Black Stone” is a double “SHIRK” for two reasons: (1) The “Black Stone” is a partner of Allah in the sense that, like Allah, the “Black Stone” is revered (holy, bowed down to); it forgives Muslims of their sins; and it will protect Muslims from hell-fire on the Day of Judgement [Sunan an-Nasa’I 2919], and (2) The inner compositions of the “Black Stone” is the unity and the diversity of many different kinds of minerals, which is the very thing Muslims referred to as “SHIRK” - the un-forgivable sin of joining partners... * There are several ways to blaspheme God - to deny God’s existence. Two notable ways are as follow: (1) Autonomy or Self-Governing: It is the assumption that you can live independently from God. (2) The Muslin-Way: It is to know that something does not exist, cannot exist, and has never existed; and to insist that that thing is God. In other words, The Muslim is saying, “God is that thing that does not exist, cannot exist, and has never existed.” * God is intelligent - even if you refuse to be intelligent, or to think intelligently about God.

@@kraf9132 In Judaism and Christianity, God cannot learn. The terms “All-Wise”, “All-Knowing”, and “All-Knowledgeable” are attributes of God which denotes that God is completely perfect in His knowledge on all things; and that God needs no additional information as to improve His knowledge about any particular thing (or matter). It also denotes that God cannot make a bad choice so as to correct it later, or to improve on it later in the ages yet to come. For God cannot learn new information. * God speaks in the Book of Isaiah 55:10-11: “As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to the heaven without watering the earth…, so is my word that comes out of my mouth. It will not return to me empty; but rather it will accomplish what I desire, and it will achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” This, in Judaism and Christianity, is called “The Consummation of the Word of God”. In other words, God’s Word cannot fail. It must be completely consumed - fulfilled, or carried out. No “Word of God” can be denied in its accomplishment - the purpose for which it was sent. No “Word of God” comes back to God empty-handed (or cancelled). No “Word of God” can be abrogated (cancelled or called back) for any reason whatsoever. * In Quran 2:106, Allah speaks about his words: “Whatever communications we (Allah) abrogate (cancel, call back), or caused to be forgotten, we bring one better than it, or like it.” To bring something better tomorrow than today is to make an improvement. In other words, the words of Allah can be improved upon, can go un-fulfilled, can be re-called, or can be made null and void. * The “Word” of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob cannot be improved upon, or cannot be made null and void. They must all be consumed - fulfilled, or burnt out. For God is not in the learning business. He cannot learn new information; therefore, God cannot abrogate His Word. God is good all the time; and all the time, God is good.

Fun Fact. Aramaic was a language written and spoken amongst the literate and elite. Arabic was the market language that became a written language in time. With this background set, the Aramaic word for Jesus is (ܝܫܘܥ). The Arabic word for Muhammad is محمد. Everything is in plain sight, if you understand that the arabic alphabets has mostly been borrowed from syriac aramaic.

What a pack of bullshit. Aramic and Hebrew are descends of the Classical Arabic language, a language spoken by bedouins at least 1500 years before the Prophet[saw] was born. The jews are basicaly a nomadic tribe which moved out from the Arabian peninsula, hebrew is nothing but an ancient Arabian dialect. Islamic awareness has lots of articles on the development of the Arabic script. Perhaps you are one of those who think the Qur'aan was originally written in Aramaic-the madness of Muslim haters.

@@iankennedy1441 Did the Universe begin to exist? Can we have an actual real physical infinite in this universe? - The answer is simply: No. David Hilbert states, “The infinite is nowhere to be found in reality. It neither exists in nature nor provides a legitimate basis for rational thought…the role that remains for the infinite to play is solely that of an idea” (Hilbert, D, “On the Infinite: in Philosophy of Mathematics”, ed. With an introduction by Paul Benacerraf and Hilary Putnam, Englewood Cliffs, N.J: Prentice Hall, 1964, pages: 139-141). The Universe is NOT eternal - “The world’s past eternity is impossible because it leads to affirming circular movements of the heavenly sphere whose number is infinite and whose individual units are innumerable, even though they (divide into) a sixth, a fourth, a half and so on…”. Al-Ghazali (RA) began by noting the contradiction in saying that the revolutions of the planets are enternal while at the same time one can determine the length of their rotations around the world” (Al-Ghazali, “The Incoherence of the Philosophers”, A Parallel English- Arabic Text Translated, annotated by Michael E. Marmura, Brigham Young University Press, 2000, pages: 18-19). What about the Infinity of God - God’s infinite is not referring to a collection of items of an infinite number of elements. The infinity we are rejecting is the infinity based on an infinite number of elements or discrete parts. God’s infinity is, as it were, qualitative and not quantitative. It is not a collection of items to form a total quantity. God is metaphysically eternal, omnipotent etc. When God is referred to as ‘infinite’, it is in His qualities. God is unrestricted in His Love, Mercy, Justice, Wisdom, etc. There is no upper boundary to these attributes. However, in terms of numerical quantity, God is uniquely and eternally One! There is only One Creator, One King, One Judge, One Eternal Supreme Divine Authority. Interesting Statement - Dr. Dennis Sciama, formerly director of Cambridge University Observatories states, “If you change a little bit of nature, or you change a little bit the constants of nature…it is very likely that intelligent life would not have been able to develop”. (From the BBC special, “The Anthropic Principle”). There’s still a chance… - Some (typically those who deny God) argue that we cannot rule out the possibility that our universe simply exists as an extraordinarily lucky accident. True, but… This is counter discourse - Would those people say such as thing if an elephant appeared on their driveway overnight? Or what if a jumbo jet was parked in your garden when you woke up in the morning? We can claim anything! We can say that the fine-tuning provides significant evidence in support of theism over the “there’s still a chance” hypothesis. Likelihood Principle - Whenever a body of data is much more unlikely under one hypothesis than another, the data counts as evidence in favour of the hypothesis under which it is more likely. Applied to our argument - Fine-tuning is more likely under the design hypothesis. Fine-tuning is unlikely under the chance hypothesis. The Logic: The fine-tuning of the universe is due to physical necessity, chance, the multiverse or design. The fine-tuning of the universe can’t be due to physical necessity, chance or the multiverse. Therefore, the fine-tuning is due to design. God is simple - In Islamic theology, God is uniquely One. Professor Antony Flew explains, “This strikes me as a bizarre thing to say about the concept of an omnipotent and omniscient Spirit, an idea so simple that is understood by all the adherents of the great monotheistic religions - Judaism, Christianity and Islam?” (Flew, A, “There is a God”, HarperOne, 2007, page: 111).

Yes, the media is gonna condemn you if you're a public person, people are gonna critisize you, etc. But you're not gonna have any legal repercusions from it, the government can't do anything about it. All other countries have some laws about restriction of speech except the U.S. Here the Mufti says you can't say derogatory things against LGBT or jewish people even in America. You actually can. Killing for disparaging the “prophet “is considered very Islamic Sunan Abi Dawud 4361 Narrated Abdullah Ibn Abbas: A blind man had a slave-mother who used to abuse the Prophet (ﷺ) and disparage him. He forbade her but she did not stop. He rebuked her but she did not give up her habit. One night she began to slander the Prophet (ﷺ) and abuse him. So he took a dagger, placed it on her belly, pressed it, and killed her. A child who came between her legs was smeared with the blood that was there. When the morning came, the Prophet (ﷺ) was informed about it. He assembled the people and said: I adjure by Allah the man who has done this action and I adjure him by my right to him that he should stand up. Jumping over the necks of the people and trembling the man stood up. He sat before the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: Messenger of Allah! I am her master; she used to abuse you and disparage you. I forbade her, but she did not stop, and I rebuked her, but she did not abandon her habit. I have two sons like pearls from her, and she was my companion. Last night she began to abuse and disparage you. So I took a dagger, put it on her belly and pressed it till I killed her. Thereupon the Prophet (ﷺ) said: Oh be witness, no retaliation is payable for her blood

Just listening to the fiction story in SATANIC VERSES------there does not seem to be any offending point against Islam or Mohammad---peace be upon him. So why Muslims are getting angry about this book.? It is all fiction , a dream----but even in that dream--there is no big insult against Muhammad. A reference to Satanic Verses------it seems that this is already known about some Satanic Verses , which were recognized by Muhammad , being non-divine , and those verses were removed from QURAN. That way there is no insult against Muhammad-----may even be considered a sort of favorable tribute that MOHAMMAD did recognize certain verses which were non-divine and so removed from QURAN. So there is no reason to turn against Salman Rushdi.

The religious matters are perfected wether Gabriel transmitted it or some other angel. Now with regards to beliefs, mythology and the debate about the existence of Gabriel God Angels whatever else that is a separate debate. So with regards to your first comment Gabriel being present has nothing to do with the nature of Muhammad being able to sin in human matters and be perfect and sinless on religious and spiritual doctrine. It is difficult to comment on early islam without reading classic arabic, but I am told that scholars who lived the first 150 years after the prophet (including ibn Ishaq) accepted that the incident of the Satanic verses had happened. But so what? As you say, *everyone is fallible*. Let's take this one step further. The major prophets in the Jewish-muslim traditions *all* made some mistakes. Moses let his attention wander and his followers started worshiping a golden calf, an event more significant than the Satanic verses, as Moses was banned from entering Caanan because of it. Muhammed (PBUH) reportedly forgot to say "inshallah" when promising to give the Jews an answer (about the number of people in the cave) the next day. We are told the angel punished him by not providing an answer [which led the Jews to reject him] . This is a more significant event. Clearly, prophets were not chosen for being infallible, they were chosen for other qualities. So what if the prophet had a bad day? He was a mortal being of flesh and blood, like all prophets before him. Attributing him with being infallible is giving him a divine attribute.

This is false. Most of the Ahl al-Sunnah (and definitely the Shi'a as well) believe that the Prophets were infallible. And those two stories that you mentioned are either false or have something more to them. Also, I think you may have it backwards. The Prophets weren't chosen because they were infallible. Their prophethood made them and required them to be infallible. Allah has taken it upon himself to guide mankind, he doesn't guide humans towards perfection with an imperfect guide. That defeats the purpose. And it is a huge theological problem if God makes such unwise decisions. Seriously, think twice before you speak about the Prophet (s) again.

To Birger Johansson Why do both of you guys (desi x edits) go to extremes in your religion? Prophets are Human Beings and can ERR but they don't make claims of Kufur. They would be protected from that. This is one of the Problems of the Bible, that the writers that wrote the Bible were from both sides. There were those who were for the Prophets and those that were against. And BOTH of their presentations of events were incorporated in the Bible! The Quran is protected from these and all other forms of corruption.

By a Muslim, yes. Makes more sense that way. The same with the Iranian situation. It’s more effective if one of their own steps up instead of an outsider throwing on a cape.

He's also quite short in height (vs white ppl who are generally taller, even Imran Khan of quite tall mA). He married women all taller than him. His personal life with his wives has also always been a mess, he comes across as the overly sensitive, emotionally labile insecure guy in all of his relationships (in his wives' interviews). Only a person with so many issues says stuff likes this.

I never knew him; I was in primary school too when this book came out. When someone does these things in the name of Islam, I think they don't know Islam. From what I researched about the book, it is pure craziness, the book is vile and totally ugly. Book is full of hate for so many people. The man is pure evil himself

MALM kicking a man who is down. Talking about his looks... Calling it devilish. You would think that MALM would be gracious given that MALM's family was also attacked by extremists not too long ago. Never mind, hate is hate. And it is not always at the end of a knife.

@@dronoid4659 To spread hate, must one necessarily insult? What do you think Mufti was spreading when he said to thousands of his followers that Salman Rushdie had a devilish look? Was it love?

I don’t condone violence what was done to Salman Rushdie is wrong and completely despicable. Also Khomeinis fatwa(his encouraging of assassinating Rushdie) means nothing to the vast majority of Muslims anyways as we don’t follow him. Some Shias tend to follow him but again doesn’t mean all those Shias actually wanted to kill Rushdie. But Malm making fun of Salmans bald top of the head or his forehead or his receding hairlines means nothing. A drop in an ocean boohoo.

Dear Mufti Abu Layth. I used to watch you regularly several years ago but i sort of lost touch with your channel. Then suddenly KZbin brough your channel back into focus and i was shocked. What has happened to you. I used to love your channel and i would say you are the laughing mufti. But now there is a sudden change and i had to look up some of your older KZbin video and was shocked to know you had a home invasion and it was bad. Is that why you have stopped being your cheerful self and now you seem to have been forced into your current state. Take care brother. Be safe.
