Salmon River | Outdoor Journal | Season 13

Located in Oswego County, New York, the Salmon River stretches 17 miles from the Lighthouse Hill Reservoir in Altmar to where it empties into Lake Ontario. At a time of year when a lot of anglers have put their tackle away for the winter there is some world class fishing just a short drive from Vermont. And once you’ve hooked a steelhead in the Salmon River you’ll want to come back.

Hooking 10 and getting 3 in. Ur doing something wrong we have had 50+ hook up days on steelhead

Time fish is out of water matters . Start holding you breath once you take him from water and see how it goes for you . There is way too many people that mishandled fish of all kinds . Just saying .

lol the great lakes steelhead don't run in the fall ''to eat salmon eggs'. They do it mainly to get a good spot in river, then winter over and be the first fish on prime spawning gravel. The spring run fish are late to the crowded gravel and don't have the metabolizium to allow wintering over... some rivers in ontario,erie, etc have NO salmon but have fall,winter,spring runs,, steelhead also run in the winter. Again to get prime gravel. The eggs are a bonus and not needed.

There's way, way too much snagging in the Salmon river and others nearby...that's why I only fish by boat now-a-days.

rubber nets should be mandatory. Have watched 4 videos so far and haven't seen a rubber net yet.....hmmm.

If youre using thin, stiff and nylon material as a net. You severally damage the fishs skin/and slime. The slime which act as their immuse system fighting off diseases and infections. And obviously you damage the skin as well. Poachers/ fish netters use that net specifically. If you use a rubber net it drastically decreases the loss of that slime and you would not dmange/scratch the skin. With those nets used in the video theyre usually used in salt water fishing more or less known as "keeper nets" you use those nets when you dont throw em back
