There was a known concern with the airfliters getting wet on that model year transit. The water drips down from the scuttle panal and soaks the air filter. Ford made a modified drip tray to direct the water away. I can't remember if it was a Recall or a TSB. I hope this will help 👍

Not sure if you know. There was a recall on them Transits for them air filters getting wet... Check with your local dealer. Could be the cause of the engine failure. Worth a check.

new transits are pants, 3 engines + 2 sets of injectors in 6 months in one van, kept blowing holes in the pistons. we are a main dealer franchise, not many people can afford our labour rates, so fitting new engines is rare. in 12 months we have done 5 transits , 1 fiat, 1 renault, + 1 pugeot, which is the same engine as a transit. i did my apprenticeship on transits, where did it all go wrong?? yeah rob, the wiring is a right ball-ache around the dpf/bellhousing

I bought one with the same engine 2014 164000 miles. Loads of back pressure and using about 1 litre of oil every 1000 miles. Been told the engine is toast and not to travel too far but it runs perfect (bit smoky on start up) and hasn’t got any worse in 4000 miles since it was diagnosed as worn piston rings.

Check the scuttle as its common on these that water runs down the screen through gaps at the ends of the scuttle and on to the filter one side and ECU the other, Fords did do a diverter kit for them that clips under the scuttle one either end diverting the water away as a "cure" I have them on mine. If i remover the diverters rain water pours into the engine bay. Very bad design fault....

Chris makes a good point about truck engines. I used drive a Mercedes Axor truck, it had a 9 litre straight 6 engine. It suddenly lost compression and on removing the head, 3 out of 6 pistons were melted caused by over fuelling injectors. The trauck had only done 200K miles, nothing for a heavy. From watching youtube, the Nissan Navara engine is also common to suffer this fault of over fuelling and piston issues.
