I have PCOS, and I’ve noticed something. (I am European.) Many American women with PCOS end up with "oopsie babies" because they are told they won’t conceive naturally at all. In Europe, we are told something different: You can get pregnant, though it may take longer. Interestingly, women with PCOS often have a longer biological clock, meaning they can naturally get pregnant even in their late 40s. We are advised to try to conceive naturally first because it might just happen that way. If it doesn’t occur within a year of trying, then we can consider IVF treatments and other options-mainly to fit the timeline people have for starting a family. This approach isn’t because the woman in question can’t conceive naturally. We are told that it’s harder, not impossible-in fact, it’s very possible. That’s why we’re advised to always use protection. Our bodies just don’t function like the average person’s, so periods and getting pregnant can be different. I feel so sad hearing stories from women with PCOS in the US who sometimes don’t realize they’re expecting until it’s too late, all because doctors don’t seem to explain things properly. We’re also taught that there are two types of PCOS: Type 1 and Type 2, similar to diabetes. With Type 1, you either have it or develop the syndrome without a known cause (it can be genetic). With Type 2 PCOS, you develop it for reasons similar to how someone might develop Type 2 diabetes. Everything about American healthcare seems so strange to me-they misinform patients, it’s incredibly expensive, and health insurance is a complicated and costly mess. So, yeah, hugs from a fellow PCOS girly. And to Sam, congrats on the baby!

I tried for 1.5 years. Gave up. Got pregnant 3 months later. I struggled so hard mentally and emotionally to cope and process still. Sometimes i still do. Just know youre not alone, even when you feel like you are, even when other moms tell you how easy it is and how shitty you are for having feelings. You are not alone.

Thank you for this. While I'm so happy for her I couldn't get past 5 min of this video (I'll watch it when I'm in a better head space). We've been trying for 2 years and are starting with a fertility dr next month. It's so hard seeing all these people on social media who get pregnant not on purpose. Again, super happy for her. It just sucks to see when I'm struggling so hard.

I don't have any questions I just want to give a piece of (unsolicited) advice!! when I had my first baby the literal best thing I did was take a breastfeeding class. It was life-changing. You learn things there that you will NEVER learn anywhere else.. yes a lactation consultant will come in the room after you have your baby and teach you how to have the baby latch on but that's literally the only knowledge they give you so having the information going into it it just makes you so much more confident and it made it the best experience possible because I knew what to expect. That's all -😊 p.s. I'm so happy for you❤

Samantha, i have some very important advice for you!!! i had lost about 100 lbs and had became pregnant. i focused on my baby instead of my health and stopped my weight loss journey (im back at it 12 years later) Because you have lost weight before becoming pregnant you will have a lot of nutrients taken away (to be given to your baby) from you more rapidly. Your teeth with most likely suffer drastically from this. Make sure to really take care of them. Make sure to get a significant amount of calcium in your body. It is extremely important to take care of yourself because this baby will...what i like to say with my daughter...suck your will to live! This baby will be taking everything from you and you will feel it but in the end I would do it all again in a heartbeat! I consider myself an OG, i started watching you when you took your mom trick or treating in Wisconsin. I'm so proud of you!! Congratulations...TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF!! Eat good, keep moving and enjoy that baby!!

I want to add that all babies are a blessing. I'm sharing this information because I want women to be able to make informed decisions about their reproductive health. The Ozempic that Sam took could most definitely have contributed to this situation, but it's important to note that the exact same thing could have happened without Ozempic. It's important not to mistakenly believe that having PCOS means you can't get pregnant, leading to unprotected sex in monogamous relationships if pregnancy isn’t part of your immediate plans. This is especially crucial for teenage girls or those in their early twenties, who might think they are infertile due to PCOS. This misconception can lead to unnecessary trouble or cause unnecessary grief for women who really want to become mothers one day but mistakenly believe it's impossible because IVF is very costly. So, yeah, hugs from a fellow PCOS girly. And to Sam and Andrew, congrats on the baby! I originally replied with this information to another comment, but I thought it might be helpful to share it as a standalone comment. I believe it's important for women who know or suspect they have PCOS to have access to accurate information and different perspectives on managing the condition.

I think opinions will be had and said part of your job, sam. I think ppl will express concern bc in reality, not everyone should be parents, yet they are. No one wants kids to suffer, especially at the hands of their own parents. But I think the way you announced your pregnancy with full transparency with out having to justify your actions of an unplanned/unwanted pregnancy like most moms do. They expect no criticism no matter how valid it may be. They only want sympathy and support. I think both can be important. I think parents should be pressured by society to be better for their children. It can get touchy and ppl think differently. Regardless of the way you approached, this was the most mature I have seen you be and then even other baby mamas. Your honesty and full acceptance of responsibility for getting pregnant and your commitment and awareness about having to be better than your very best for your unborn child are inspiring and being on the right track. I dont think getting defensive or stubborn is right. You opened yourself and welcomed healthy discussions. You were raw, and I'm so proud . And best of luck, you got this. Just try harder than you think you should do better than your best bc we dont deserve our children, and they deserve it all. ❤
