My exact reaction to that tweet also. John McCain didn't bring a fire hose. Stop giving him all these kudos for occasionally not being a completely disgusting human being. Most people manage that every day and they don't get this vomit-inducing hero worship.

Bear of Bad News sam had very good points get off your high horse. If someone votes with trump 80 percent of the time like McCain did how the hell is that bringing a firehose? So much more he could have done. So much more. And sam made a good point again. He could have given his seat to a democrat before he passed as a way of putting pressure on trump. He didn’t. He talked a big game but was as weak about resisting trump as much as flake

Sam Seder is one of the rare political pontificators that has remained CONSISTENT throughout his entire career. Been watching/listening since the Air America days going back to 2004. I may disagree from time to time with him or Michael Brooks, but it's the consistency that makes him stand out to me. And to me, the Democratic Establishment ass kissing of Mccain is what I term as the "Real" Trump Derangement Syndrome- that is- aligning with people who just a few years back would terrify you just to fight the (debatably) "greater enemy" (Trump). Awesome to see Seder, Cenk, and Kulinski bring sanity to this subject, even if for the fact that Mccain did do some good things from time to time he deserves (some) credit for.

Love and respect this show so much and your exactly correct criticism of McCain and the fire analogy. McCain is just a great example of how far off the tracks we've gone... It’s like having the slightest thread of decency makes you a hero nowadays. Friendly reminder of his joke about Janet Reno's being Chelsea Clinton's father because they are both unattractive and insulating Reno is a man. One of the first things he did after entering politics was help Charles Keating swindle the life savings from a bunch of retirees. He went on to be a solid party-first senator for his entire career, even participating in the theft of Merrick Garland's supreme court seat. Also, after he lost the election he blamed acorn and spearheaded defunding them. Voted against raising the minimum wage over a dozen times. Gave us Sarah Palin and the Tea Party. Which lead to bertherism and Trump. For 8 years under Obama, his party turned into obstructionist racists, and McCain stayed right there with them. He bought his seat in politics and sold his vote to the highest bidder every time. Best thing I can say about McCain is he isnt a blatant traitor to the country. Just the middle class and poor. He still cared about rich Americans. I don't think that any of this tarnishes his legacy of spending years as a POW when he could likely have got released and left the others behind. Aside from that I'm hard pressed to see what good he's done other than not being as bad as Donald Trump.

I think the "bring the hose" analogy refers to the funeral of McCain where everyone basically bashed Trump and the status quo. He invited Obama to speak. So the optimism springs from that, not from McCain's own resume.

I have to say this is probably my least favorite video of yours. Listen John McCain deserves a lot if criticism. No question. But... You're tidbit about us not celebrating other war heroes is a silly point. Most people still don't know about his heroics which is crazy considering he ran for president. His biggest flaw was his unabashed belief in the ability of the US military. And he deserves massive criticism for his war hawk nature. But you know what he did also? Wrote a memoir apologizing to the American people and taking full responsibility for the Iraq war. He then saved millions of people's healthcate. I get that it doesn't excuse his crimes. But it definitely shows that unlike 99%, of Republicans he was genuine. And wanted to help a country he loved. And was willing to change himself and admit his own faults. When McCain died all self responsibility and accountability of the GOP died with it. A long with any ounce of honor. RIP.

Some points on, some points off............ but at least he didn't go the alt-right/russia 'smear' tactic. Big, legitimate points criticizing Mr. McCain about his senate seat vacancy AND the 'angry' words (which were needed/accurate) but 'tepid or no' action (which were needed more) against trump.....even voting WITH donny 80% of the time >>> this 'type' of action tends to erode any complaints you have... Yeah, it's his responsibility for bringing palin in and all the lunacy she paved the way for, but he did PUBLICALLY 'admit' his regret for that decision (she also wasn't invited to the funeral ---- what else was he supposed to do while he was alive?) and Mr. Seder's brief little bon mot intimating that maybe McCain didn't 'deserve' the accolades for being a pow, because there were other POWs who didn't get the same adoration.... wtf?

Hm...I can honestly say I have never wished death on anyone .. Outside of a temporary wish in a temporary fit of anger, after which I returned to my senses and remembered the real life realities of what I wished for in my anger. So there's nobody I can think of in my normal senses and think "Yea, I wish that person would die". It seems to me, that's an inherently non left position to take.

sam mentioned as an example justice scalia (who helped strike down the voting rights act in a 5-4 decision) after his death, the supreme court was at a 4-4 deadlock and without a solid right wing majority they couldn't rule on other voting decisions after that. His death literally helped strengthen democracy and civil rights

I'm unsure of what you expect would have happened with a special election vs. an appointment of a Republican. Is it that a special election would have had a wingnut Republican running against a lefty-palatable Democrat who would've won, or at least had a good chance of winning, rather than a guaranteed establishment Republican like Kyl? One other thing that maintaining his seat, but being mostly absent, allowed McCain to do was to make it easier for Democrats to use parliamentary tactics like quorum calls to thwart Republican plans with just one non-McCain Republican senator needed to side with Democrats (assuming all the Democratic caucus stuck together). As it turned out, the Democrats didn't do anything with that assist from McCain. Going back to the special election possibilities, how sure are you that they would have ended up with a Sheriff "The Convict" Joe or Kelli "it's all about me, me, me" Ward rather than someone like Kyl running tactically?

I agree with all that was said about McCain. But he desperately wanted Lieberman The party leadership, with zero vision, failed to see the brilliance of that move, probably the only thing that could have beaten Barrack. In that position it is hard to back out and Palin did a good snow job on their albeit weak vetting process. I feel sorry for McCain on the Palin front, it was the last thing he wanted. I more blame Schmidt who is all over the broadcast news with his indigence like the head of the resistance when he probably had more to do with Palin being chosen than anyone.

Half this video is on Sarah Palin. He didn't even invite her to his funeral. Everyone's speech at his funeral said that he would be the first to admit he's not perfect. As a republican do you REALLY think he will want to give up the seat?! I just think this rant is a little unfair. Say this stuff about the people that are in. This I told you so shit is annoying after the fact. The more I watch you guys the more you resemble the fox news of the left. Totally turning me off
