That was all Kim Cattrall -- when the directors floated the idea of her character getting cancer, she wanted it to be REAL, not some "sickness of the week" where she looks fantastic in her hospital bed and people weep and "learn something" and then they all go on with their lives. She insist that it be respectful and real. Kim Cattrall is a genius!

I feel that part of the frustration I have with my family and a lot of other people do as well with their loved ones is not establishing if they want to complain and be heard or if they want to complain and solutions before talking about their fears and problems, it's important to know beforehand what the person is really asking for, consolation, solutions, humor, etc, and there's no shame in asking before hand.
@potocatepetl2 жыл бұрын
That is often the attitude people take when someone with cancer (or a similarly pessimistic diagnosis) gets. It is not a Carrie thing, it is a majority thing. Believe me... I got that when I was sick and I was tempted to do it to others. People generally think that thinking positive helps but it just doesn't.

Considering their real life history, I felt like this scene was Kim’s final plea for SJP to be kinder to her and apologize. And SJP just messed up the opportunity. Even though I know Kim won’t be in the new chapter, it’s going to suck not to have her there. But despite employment endeavors, I really hope SJP makes things right with Kim. When I first started watching SATC I was watching for Carrie, but the older I get, the more I realize her friends are the ones worth watching, especially Samantha and Miranda.

I think Kim said in one of the interviews that she urged the writers not to kill Samantha off; I believe her words were that she didn't want Samantha to get punished for choosing not to have children (since childless women are more likely to get breast cancer, or at least that's how they portrayed it in the show). She was but not in this scene. She does have her good moments, but I agree she is very self absorbed. But then I stop to think, she narrated the entire series and knew every detail about her friends lives and everything that was happening with them so in a way her life revolved around her friends.
