None of them are ridiculously fast. It’s faster than the competition which is all what matters. 400whp-490whp is not what I consider fast in modern terms. Tuned MK4 Supras and R34 GTR’s have been making 600whp plus since the 90’s. BMW just did a great job giving u AWD and enough power to outrun the competition stock.

Yeah I have a 328d (diesel) that from the factory made 180hp and 280ft-lb…. That catapulted the car to 60 in about 6.7 seconds. Not fast by any stretch but also there’s no way in hell 180hp is getting a 3,500+ lb car to 60 in under 7 seconds. A max power tune on my car puts it at a rated “240hp” that is enough to get it to 60 in 5.0 As my daughter says, “the math ain’t mathing” 😂 bc how tf is only 240hp and 400ft-lb putting down numbers like that? I would love to put my car on a dyno.

The most fair comparison was the Charger SRT vs Mercedes C63 vs Audi RS5, that clearly shows that when it comes to naturally aspirated V8s, the Charger does just fine. A few days ago they raced a Challenger 392 against a Toyota Supra and a Mercedes C63S, then proceeded to make fake surprised pikachu faces at the results. We should also race a 200HP go kart and a 500HP Mercedes and then pretend we didn't know which one is gonna win.

Acura engineers could have solved a lot of issues if they rotated the engine and transmission the correct way and used a ZF8 Trans. Great video, Sam! very different cars and yet so similar. But we all know the M340i was going to kick everyone's rears. Xdrive, turbo plus more HP than claimed, makes it the benchmark in that segment and it's currently unbeatable (and I'm a Mercedes Benz fan). Those V8 never stood a chance. I guess their owners wouldn't trade speed for that V8 growl. Good stuff!

It screams like only a NA 7k plus rpm car can, shifts are solid (I’ve driven GT2RS 991.2, 992 GT3 tourings etc) I feel the is500 suspension is what’s too soft. U will never have the tuning potential of modern. Forced induction cars. If ur not all ego u will out the gate see it looks more special than a M340i , drives better, built better, sounds better, just not faster but that’s not the point . I’ll trade in 600whp M340i for the NA razor sharp throttle response, high rpm scream, and rarity . Plus I have a forged 2jz 04 is300 good for a 1,000whp reliably but will it be a better experience than a NA V8 I dnt think so. Different tool.

I have a is500. Anytime I race a scat pack it’s an easy win. Same power, very similar gearing and subtract 400-500lbs between the two. Is500 gears are kinda long so top end will be there. Actually a stock bmw M340i can be hawked down if u do bolt ons for 430whp or more.

Widebody chargers are noticeably slower than narrow body charger due to extra weight, much worse drag coefficient, and extra drag from wider tires at the top end. A narrow body scat pack is definitely quicker in the quarter mile than a IS500. Caranddriver results: IS500 60 mph: 4.3 sec 100 mph: 10.4 sec 1/4-Mile: 12.8 sec @ 112 mph Scat Pack Narrow body: Zero to 60 mph: 3.9 sec Zero to 100 mph: 9.1 sec 1/4mile: 12.3 sec @ 115 mph Either way RWD high HP car races are all about the launch. Scats are insanely hard to launch usually. IS500 has a better torque curve for launches so it will usually win in most circumstances

Basically any performance figures dodge states on paper add a 0.3 -0.5 sec to get a real world performance estimate because they don't keep up with their figures. ​also for the challenger super bee dodge performancenumbers on paper for 1/4 mile was 11.6, right in this vid it isnt gettingclose to low 11s not even high 12s. Dodge performancestats are always overestimated

Cool beans! My 2019 tuned Arteon runs 4.8 0-60. It’s transmission is nothing but lazy. Took me a long while to figure out how to manipulate it. On a roll it’s the best sleeper I’ve ever had. Paid it off in 2022. Refuse to sell it though. It’s a fantastic cruiser for trips. ✌️

392 is a archiac engine to baseline modern sports cars with. The B58 powered cars are more of the measure of street cars now. given their massive HP gains from a simple tune and ethanol as well. A stock 3,400lbs MK5 supra on a roll is quick.and unlike the scatpacks, they can also run quick times on a circuit track.

Forced induction in this era is superior with access to ethanol and race fuels and direct injection etc. I’m sure the B58 is making 500bhp and probably 530lb ft torque at the crank. Honestly I would go is500 with headers mid pipe , tune 440whp 410WTQ or add ethanol and FBO 470whp and HOPE the M340i is stock LMAO

Mechanical drag and curb weight factor into top end performance. It's why the RWD M340i has a very slightly faster trap speed than the AWD variant over the quarter mile.

@@DesertStateInEU I get how AWD works. But c'mon.... AWD is not helping these cars in any meaningful way from 50Km/hr unless the surface is wet. They are not close to breaking traction in a rolling race. Any advantage is washed away with the extra weight of the transmission housing, rotational mass etc. And why should we make the cars the same weight? Isn't that Dodge's job not to make a boat? That's like saying an M1 Abrams would smoke them all if it was the same weight as the BMW.

And there's no way that 340i is making 382BHP whilst doing the same time as an RS3! Great car but it's not putting out 382BHP...a dyno test was done to prove why BMW's always seem "faster". The roll race is a clear cut of just those numbers aren't nearly true...the RWD cars should've taken that AWD with "less HP".

Something's wrong with the Lexus. AutoTopNL measured the LC500 Convertible (so the heavier version of the LC which is also heavier than the IS500) on the german autobahn and with the racebox they did 10.7 seconds from 100 to 200km/h. And the same guys measured the M340i xDrive and the best result was 10.6 seconds. So how the hell IS500 is slower than the M340i ? PS: the old first gen IS-F did 9.9s 100-200. And it had like 420hp and 100kg less than the IS500

Amazing car but won't be a classic and in the same shape as say an IS500 in 10 years.. but I agree it's the benchmark for the price in terms of ICE performance.. One could argue in straight line performance, a Model 3 Performance is the best value. So, I guess it depends on what a person likes. If it's sound and feeling then maybe the Dodge with the old school big block... wait, did I just say that?? Resale and Japanese cool factor IS500.. Everybody likes something different. I have a tuned G70. Best bang for the buck IMO but much less $$ than these cars.
