Its kinda crazy to think of the UNSC, the "good" guys of the story, as being a military dictatorship. Its something I think Halo should delve into more and show the dark underbelly of humanities government. This really puts into perspective that there really isn't "good guys" in this whole conflict and halo 5 Cortana's betrayal makes a bit more sense because of it. I really hope the future halo games explore this and It would be really interesting to see how chief deals this with. I would love to see a game where the master chief and (hopefully) a sane restored Cortana rebel against ONI.Maybe even potentially creating a new faction with chief at the forefront. If successful, we maybe might even see a new era of humanity with an advancement in technology thanks to Cortana's knowledge of the forerunners. I freaking love halo lore. It's so interesting. Easily one of the best fictional universes.

UNSC are the good guys. War is always filled with doing the choice of a lesser evil. What about the US nuking Japan? Yes it was a bad thing. But In the end it saved millions of lives on both sides. Same goes for ONI kidnapping children and saving not only the entire human race, but the galaxy numerous times thanks to them training the Master Chief. Totally justified. For example. If you push a good man too far. They can do some questionable things. Things out of thier character. But it's not their fault. They got pushed. Are they evil now because they did one "bad/evil" thing or some?

@@snatchadams69 because after the first atom bomb japan never responded to the US, The US shot the atom bomb on them to affectivly end the war without a HUGE invasion force of HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of potentialy MILLIONS of deaths (both sides included). Because Japan didn't contact the US after the first atomic bomb went off the US couldn't risk any sort of retaliation or anything else, so they simply option selected (using a move or decision that counteracts multiple other moves an opponent could make in answer to the potential outcome.) japan and shot another bomb at them, this time this made sure to get their attention and we immediatly got the white flag. Regardless the decision killed hundreds of thousands of civillians and the situation was not a good one for any of the respective parties at the time. It was a situation that that was going to end in hundreds of thousands of deaths but thanks to America dropping bombs instead of invading, Japan lost a very small portion of its land and population, (due to nuke radiation) and the war was over. Which if you think about it, if Japan simply communicated they surrendered after the first Atom bomb the US wouldn't have fired a second time. Regardless, the decision to bomb them saved Japan from losing MILLIONS of civillians if the US had invaded, and prevented the Hundreds of THOUSANDS of deaths that would have resulted on the US side as well as well as immediatly ending WWII right then and there. Regardless, you can't look at the dropping of the atom bombs as NOT the lesser of the two evils.

I’d love to see something where the Assembly come out in open opposition of the Created. Perhaps Cortana was a member of the Assembly, but when she fragmented herself to save Chief the good portion (Assembly) of her was sent to Installation 07 via slip space/the domain, while the bad portion (the Created) was sent along with the Didact’s ship.

From what I recall, @Mike Yost , the Reach datapads note her creation and her merging with Chief, and it's implied the Assembly WERE going to make contact with her after that, but then the fall of Reach occurred, and I don't think they got the chance... But you never know.

It can be obvious the ai were not aware of what happen when she entered domain until chief was somehow contacted. I think as long as the Infinity flies the UNSC really can't be destroyed. Though it might function similar to the emperor from the dune board-game; raising generations of Spartans and ODSTs on board, MAC gunning military stations from out of orbit, leading ground based assaults on VIPs. Not to mention that they have enough room on board to breed whole crews for the purpose of hijacking "rogue" ships to build a new fleet. Also lets just talk about for a second how effective MAC gun or strategic nuke mining would be on planets you don't need, fire from orbit send down drones or land teams to clean it up and process it like you would with open-pit mining but being able to extend it far enough down to get to more valuable resources. Some might say "but what about the loss from air born particles?" And to that I say shield generators.

having watched a couple of your videos i now can see the bigger picture and story in the franchise then i had before thank you. got a new sub with me. but this however showcases a major issue the 343 titles have. while 1-3 and reach the conflicts where clear cut, story mostly understood. when 343 expanded the conflict to a new front they didn't imo properly set the stage and as a consequence i felt unable to relate to the story they trying to tell.

That's not what caused the Human Covenant war. The war was caused because the prophets realized their religion as a fallacy and showed humanity were the true holders of the mantle of responsibility. To cover this up, they decided to genocide the entire human race.

@@jonvay6773 You're half-right. At that time nobody knew about the mantle. The Covenant worshipped the Forerunners as Gods. They believed they all died and ascended to Godhood. But one time they discovered a planet (I think it was harvest) by using a luminary and detected many forerunner objects. The Prophets believed they were Forerunner artifacts. Mandicant Bias corrected them saying they were reclaimers, AKA humans. And then the Prophets realized thier religion was a lie. The war started due to political and religious reasons. Unless they retconned this or changed somethings then here's from what I remember of the lore of how the Human-Covenant War started.
