I think it has a more full sound, I like the drums being more prolific and present in the song. The guitar solo is great and adds another dimension, and James Hetfield’s vocals scream of agony mirroring Seger himself. Plus I think the electric guitar lends it self better in the screeching lead that is played with a sax I believe in the original. I like the original version as well but I think Metallica perfected it in my eyes.
