Okay, so first off, congratulations on making it to trending. Like the channel. Second off, thank you for being the first youtuber who actually posted sources to where their getting this whole idea from. Thirdly... Uh... no... still no. It's just as likely that they were buried near their king, so they could serve their king in the afterlife. After all, the Pharaoh keeps all of his worldly possessions with him in his tomb, why not bring along one of his greatest resources, his slaves? Moreover, I never said that they were slaves... But, and I'm arguing semantics just to be a dick, however you twist this, they're still slaves in my mind... unless they were paid substantially, they were slaves! either they were slaves to their own poverty and had to do the grueling labor for money they desperately needed to live, or they were slaves to their king in the sense that they essentially had to... If the king asks if you want to do it... you say yes. Also, seems they were worked pretty badly according to one of your sources: "the pyramid builders led a life of hard labor, said Adel Okasha, supervisor of the excavation. Their skeletons have signs of arthritis, and their lower vertebrae point to a life passed in difficulty, he said." So, yeah... seems like slaves to me... But, it doesn't really matter and we'll never find out so who the fuck cares...

Under the rules of procedure at the time a defendant could not be tried until and unless he entered a plea. To prevent miscreants from avoiding justice by refusing to enter a plea, poena dure et forte (punishment hard and strong) was used to coerce a plea. The idea that he did so to avoid forfeit of his property is the most likely reason for him to have done as he did.

About Einstein's grades: Einstein himself was German, he went to school in Aarau, Switzerland however. Einstein aced maths, obviously. Due to the fact that Switzerland and Germany have basically the opposite grading system (6 is the best, 1 the worst grad in Switzerland whereas 1 is the best, 6 the worst grade in Germany), some Germans failed to take this into account and proclaimed he failed maths. I read about Giles Corey in a book called The Big Book of Pain. I agree. He is a total badass. He also goes to show that no matter how ridiculous and cruel society is, there’s always gonna be someone that goes “that’s bs.” Torture is just a way to control a group of people who are a potential threat or an imaginary one like witches. From what I read in this book, you don’t need to do anything fancy to inflict a hell of a lot of pain on someone. Well ancient people sees the lower class not deserving of meat, because they were super expensive. Most of the poor eat a vegetable soup, a type of wheat crackers and other assortment of wheat cookings, fruit and the occasional wild game or meat left overs after the rich was done with them.
@JG-id5vi4 жыл бұрын
I honestly don't see how that correlates to them not being slaves. Slaves in those days weren't necessarily chattel slaves. Look at the Jews in Egypt. They had there own towns. They had meat. Basically lived normal lives but they were not free to leave and had to do what the pharaoh ordered. We look at ancient slavery too much like American slavery. American slavery was probably one of the worst forms of slavery in history. Apart from some of the European stuff in the Caribbean and south america (horrible torture)And ancient salt mine slaves. But those were basically criminals sentenced to death.
@lmn60234 жыл бұрын
@@JG-id5vi I don't know about American slavery being the worst. I think people think so, because they look at American slavery under todays standarts, but acknowledge with other slavery that it were other times. He was never on trial for being a witch, his wife was.

It's called 'peine forte et dure' (old French) and would be used to punish somebody for refusing to plead guilty / not guilty. If you pleaded guilty, you'd be executed and your property 'escheated' to the crown, and if you pleaded not guilty you'd risk being found guilty and your property would still be taken. However, you can't escheat property from the estate of somebody who was never tried, nor can you try a person once they're dead. When they first abolished peine forte et dure, those refuisng to plead were just presumed to plead guilty. These days if you refuse to plead, you're treated as pleading not guilty. It meant people could choose to endure a slow, agonising death to leave property behind for their family, rather than face trial. This wouldn't be used under any circumstances to interrogate a witness however. Giles Corey was being charged for witchcraft, not his wife. A person, even back then, couldn't be compelled to testify against their spouse. Weirdly, peine forte et dure was the court's way of respecting the rule of law by not putting words into a person's mouth - I like that they thought it was more humane to crush somebody with rocks than to compel speech. We could use a bit of that spirit today (with a pinch of salt). I would love it if Mr. O'Nella would do a video on archaic trial methods / punishments.

Giles Corey actually had a very good reason for refusing to enter a plea. If he entered a plea, they could start the trial, which would result in his conviction, execution, and the confiscation of his property. If he died before entering a plea, his property would be left to his family as he wouldn't be a convicted witch. IIRC, there was reason to believe that he was accused so that the accuser or an associate of them could get his land or something. Ensuring that your descendants got your inheritance and the assholes who wanted you dead wouldn't profit from their scheme must have felt really good, though being slowly crushed to death probably spoiled the moment.

The George Washington was the one that always baffled me the most because all the rest of these are stuff that’s just been passed around casually, but the Cherry Tree story was one they actually told us in school, knowing it was a lie (kind’ve ironic; using a lie to teach kids not to lie). I don’t know if that’s something they still do, but I was definitely taught that one in school.

Here you go: Most "post-mortem" Victorian photos that show babies with their eyes closed, people propped up with stands, or people with weird or sickly looks are just THAT: sleeping babies, people propped up with stands to help them hold still for the long exposure times, and people who WERE sick or who were scared by the camera flash. While there ARE post-mortem photos, the whole thing got WAY overblown on the internet with stories about photographers supposedly routinely propping up dead people along with living relatives. It was a way for people to sell otherwise unremarkable Victorian photos for higher prices. If you can't objectively prove that the person in an old photo is dead (in a coffin, surrounded by flowers, etc.) then don't pay a high price for that photo.

What you can see from space, and is the origin of the misconception, is the effect on local biomes. You can see the line of the wall due to that even though you cannot see the wall itself.

Actually the reason a historian said Einstein failed math is because he went to school in Poland and Poland and Germany have similar scoring thingies but they’re the opposite so Einstein aced math but in Germany the grade he got meant fail It was an honest mistake
@MeddusXx5 жыл бұрын
Half truth as well. He went to school in switzerland, where the grades are arranged from 6->1 with 1 being the worst. Usually with a 1->6 meassurement of grades, 1 is the best. So people saw Einstein had 6s all across math and just thought he failed it, when in fact he indeed aced it.
@nordsued3465 жыл бұрын
*angry swiss noices*
@franzferdinand23895 жыл бұрын
Actually, the reason is because he left school without graduation. Not because of math but because of his ADHD, i.e. his teacher hated him because he had no respect couldn't shut his mouth and was seditious. So when people started to behave like dipshits in school and where kicked out they would say don't worry Einstein also didn't finish school. (and they still do so here in Germany, i never heard anyone ever saying that he failed in math) In Switzerland, he was not accepted in one University because he failed a french test, which might be another reason. For all of his life he was a formidable student in natural sciences and math, he only struggled with languages.

Franz Ferdinand Him leaving school and him supposedly failing math are two different stories. And people do say that he failed math, at least I've heard that way more often than the story about him leaving school. And the reason for people to think Einstein failed math was indeed the different grading systems.
