That save from Lombardo's penalty is my favourite seaman save of all time. I remember watching that as a kid. Probably not as good a save as the one against Sheffield United in the cup semi but still a world class stop. I remember just going absolutely mental at the time after such a roller coaster of a game.

For me that is the greatest performance by any keeper in a shootout. 3 saves and one that was so close to a save. Great game.

Seaman's last penalty save is one of the best I've ever seen, not only in terms of technique & strength, but also under the circumstances of extreme pressure. Shame he undid all that good work in the Final lol

I'm a Liverpool fan but I remember watching this. It was one of the gutsiest performances I can remember by an English side. Maybe even more than getting a draw at the Camp Nou with 10 men.

Roberto Mancini if I am not correct. Was lucky with the 5th goal. McGoldrick was shit he really was. Seaman was a legend man shame what happened in the final but would not even got to it without him

Arsenal were well lucky to get through this tie, Sampdoria were clearly the better team over the 2 legs. Luck ran out in the final though. :-) "NaYIIIIIIIIm from the HALFWAY LINE!"

Samp were not clinical enough at the end of the match in Genoa. With the tie in their grasp they let it slip.

The one bright moment in an otherwise awful season...the worst in my 27 years following the club. Flirted with relegation right up to April and knocked out of the cup at home by Milwall. Was a miserable year. Club were badly in need of new ideas at this point

@ colin duffy oh yes.. remember the five or six hours in the car park well and the Samp fans trying to get at the buses on the way to the game. Was there as a youngster with my Dad. A mental day but probably one of my best memories.
