Excellent video (as usual). My daughter has the habit of over rotating on her ippon seoi nage. I will show her this combination as it is clearly a lot more effective than just trying to drag uke over her shoulder with brute strength. Will also give it a go myself :-) Thanks for this and all your videos!

Great video and technique! thank you so much for sharing and please keep em coming! My question how ever would be in what scenerios would this technique be most effective? A seoi nagi is usually set up with other attacks or movement, but when is it better to use this technique over the straight seoi nagi?
@SampsonJudo6 жыл бұрын
The Seoi-Nage into Kata Guruma is best used either as a technique on its own (so step in and over extend your hips to put yourself in the position to kata guruma) or it works well if you try for an Ippon Seoi Nage and uke avoids, so your hips miss, and from there you can utilise a Kata Guruma to still obtain a score. The drop is used in this instance to help generate power for the Kata Guruma as a secondary technique. In terms of drop Seoi Nage vs a standing Seoi Nage, it is up to preference. I find a lower Seoi Nage is best used against very strong or tall opponents.
@kyojitsu17 жыл бұрын
Great video - thanks. Would you recommend this for where uke is quite a bit shorter?
@christhant9445 жыл бұрын
Really great technique. I always get into that position. But can you use that in the current rule sets?

Chris Thant not under IJF rules. However it is perfectly acceptable under WJF rules.

Hello Mr. Sampson. i was wondering if i can use traditional upward pulling tsurite action on harai goshi/uchi mata during randori/match. i see alot of elbow up variations and just wondered if the traditional way works😃
@SampsonJudo7 жыл бұрын
Of course you can! The traditional way is the foundation to these new variations that you see today. The traditional way made it possible to create variations. It is the father of the techniques you are seeing. In my opinion, it is even more effective!

Only the “grabbing the leg” part of the video is not allowed anymore in Judo competitions, but you can do that if you’re in a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu BJJ competition.

How does the dropped knee placement work with taller people? I have problems when I drop that knee close to the other ankle when taller people can basically bend over me without losing balance. I try to pull their shoulder forward, but sometimes that doesn't seem enough and I feel like I just used a lot of effort to sit down in front of them. Any advice?
@SampsonJudo5 жыл бұрын
LeAnn Purdy sounds like you aren’t breaking their balance enough before you turn in. Try and create movement before you throw and turn in to break their balance
@lapurdy715 жыл бұрын
@@SampsonJudo thank you! I'll work on a stronger initial balance break.

Hi John, we are using the mic built in on the camera - there is no additional equipment, only a Canon DSLR.
@johnjacques42036 жыл бұрын
Sampson Judo thanks for the quick reply Sampson. That's quite good quality for the in built mic. I'm a photographer mainly but have been asked by our judo club to record some footage. Love the page by the way. Very good instruction

Hi Miki, I am extremely glad you are keen to see new videos! Unfortunately, as I am not a full-time KZbinr it is difficult to release a new video every week due to juggling running my own business, my own judo school and my own organisation at the same time. Similarly, my media team also have full time jobs themselves. I hope you can understand and be patient with me whilst I find time to make some new videos.
