@samsbikes Hello Sam! 🚴‍♂️ First off, I hope you're on the mend and feeling a lot better after battling that pneumonia you mentioned. Your health comes first! I just caught your latest video on the Shimano EP-801, and wow, it was incredibly informative! 🌟 You managed to cover almost everything I was curious about regarding this motor. There's one piece of the puzzle, however, that seems to be on the minds of not just me but all my riding buddies, and I'm sure, a vast number of your followers too - motor efficiency. Specifically, we're eager to find out about its power consumption in watts per kilometer compared to the older Shimano EP-8. Here's why this matters to me: I own a Santa Cruz Bullit with the Shimano EP-8 and a Scott Ransom e-ride equipped with a Bosch motor. Despite the Scott Ransom being significantly heavier, and paired with a smaller battery, it astonishingly offers a longer range on identical rides. This points to a known inefficiency issue with the old EP-8. Given this context, myself and likely hundreds of thousands of your viewers are keen to know if the new EP-801 has addressed and corrected this inefficiency. It's a crucial piece of information for anyone considering an upgrade or new purchase. Thanks for all the great content, and looking forward to your insights on this! 🙏 Keep up the fantastic work! Best regards, Emil From: Dominican Republic

Hey Sam…. Awesome review…. A couple notes. You can see what mode you are in… my display shows A1, A2, and M (manual mode). There are five graduations on the battery display but strangely, if you use the eTube Ride app on the handlebars for additional info - it shows ten segments… cool. You are right about the beeping - it should be able to switch on or off… worst for me is when using eTube Ride and Spotify (any music app really), the beeps come through my earbuds and they are loud and annoying which means I have to choose between the cool battery display or the lame and loud beeping. All in all though - awesome motor and Di2 11 speed linkglide setup on my rig. This is this is the best review yet on KZbin!!! Thanks again,

@@SamsBikes I'm considering buying RM Powerplay but there really is no info on how the motor works for range. Because it's like the ep8 where it gives power according to the input. And your test the problem is you need a power meter and you would need to test for something like 120 watts, 170 watts and 220 or more average watts. Because the motor gives both the best range and the worst range depending on power input. I've tried understanding it asking PP owners how they are but I will need to go test ride one. Just to let you know it's a hole that exists. But I understand you probably don't want to do 3 tests for an older motor you've already tested. Thank you.

@samsbikes Happy to hear you're doing better! Your Shimano EP-801 review was great, yet it left me wondering about one key aspect: battery efficiency. I have a Santa Cruz Bullit with the EP-800 and a Scott Ransom eRide with a Bosch CX4 motor. Surprisingly, despite the Scott's heavier weight and slightly smaller battery, it surpasses the Santa Cruz in range, pointing to the EP-8's inefficiency. With the EP-801 sporting a 900 Wh battery, it suggests more range, but does it actually offer better efficiency, or is it merely due to the larger battery size? Would an EP-801 with a 630 Wh battery outperform the EP-8 in terms of range? Understanding this would help determine if the EP-801 is a real upgrade or just 100 watt power with a larger battery option. Appreciate your insights and looking forward to this detail! Man oh man - I’m debating between this exact bike and the new Orbea Wild H20. Different motor and different components. Of course one is all carbon and the other a lighter aluminum - I think they’re close to the same weight due to the smaller battery in the orbea - 750 vs 900. Man oh man, decisions decisions. How does one choose? The new wild has the new CX motor. Not sure if of the power on it. Need to check. Anyway. Great video! The one cool thing is, I know if I go with this bike, I’ll be okay even in some of the toughest climbs. Any insights is much appreciated

@@valeriomoretta I think you asking about the Heckler??? Sorry I thought I responded to this comment. The 720wh is pretty good. In fact for my regular weekday rides sometimes I dont even use up 40% of the battery. And that's using it semi aggressive. Meaning not saving on "power". If they sell a 500wh battery or less I would love to get one for my weekday rides. I've gotten 26 miles(41kms) and 5500 ft (1676 meters) of climbing. That was in about 3 hours. I was dead tired after that. Hope that helps.

The Shimano 600 watt rating is joke. I have an Ep801, and it isnt 20% better than the Ep8 on my sons bikes. I just picked up a used 2019 Turbo Levo for my grandson with the old Brose 2.1. The old Brose 2.1 with a 560 watt motor smokes the 2024 Ep801 everywhere. It's 560 watts just motors away from my 600 watts up any hill, and the 12 year old kid is is just loafing along while the Shimano powered riders are falling behind and it is obvious Shimano wattage is not equal to Brose wattage. If everyone in your group has a whimpy Shimano its fine, but when riders with Brose motors, or Dyname 4.0 powered bike join the group , the Shimano boys see just how soft their motors are, snd they start figuring out that it is time to get rid of the limpy Shimano and have a better Emtb experience.
