New battery tech makes the battery slimmer. Hence phones can either slim down or battery capacity can increase. Chinese makers are increasing capacity. Samsung is going the slim route.

Tbh I don't think it'll be called "S25 Slim" I think it's so early that it's just the rumor name for now. Also after reading a few comments the new S25 Slim phone will apparently be an Ultra model but without the S-pen which indicates it will be slimmer hence the rumored name. I've been wanting Samsung to make an Ultra model without the pen for over 4 years now. I have no need or desire for a pen, and it's the reason why the Ultra cost hundreds more compared to it's little siblings.

Definitely holding on to my s23 U until all the bugs have been fixed with gaming. I know the s25 Ultra will be the first samsung phone meant for consol games and that's good! I definitely like the push but this overheating even if it's early is basically screaming to me wait on its perfection. Whether that's summer of next year or that we have to wait for the s26 to 27 model I will be waiting patiently to grab the model that plays these consol games seamlessly.

My guess is they are killing the FE and replacing it with this (i.e., a more trimmed down "budget" device using an old 200MP ultra sensor) that would make the most sense. It's hard to say considering samsung have a patchy and inconsistent FE release history, but it wouldn't surprise me. It's kind of hard to justify the otherwise needless and boring FE devices besides cost, and the slimness/ camera may well be the focal gimmick Samsung hopes to convince people - that being light and weight and potentially features conoared to flaghsips. Similarly, they are obviously using it as testbed for the rest of the series, but depending on sales, it could mean it ultimately replaces/ retires the FE as mentioned. This would lineup as Samsugn are due to rebrand the ultra as of the 2026 series of flagships. Personally, I hate the idea of the thinness retunring as a flagship centric design philosophy; rather, battery and performance should always be the priority first and foremost.
