I called Samsung and complained and they sent a service guy out within a week and he replaced the ice-maker at no charge. My unit was out of warranty by over 3 years and I told them I hadn't had ice for almost 2 years and tried everything short of replacing it to get it to work. I think they realize they had a faulty unit and needed to stay ahead of any class action that in the conversation on the internet. Now I'm happy, happy, happy! Thank you Samsung, you really shined! PS: the new unit has a heater in it to stop ice build up.

Thank you so much! I bought all four appliances less than 4 years ago. Replaced perfectly functioning 20 year plus old appliances. So far 3 out of the four have an issue. This was so helpful. Samsung is sending repair people out to fix my refrigerator/ice maker and my range at no charge. I must say that they have been very helpful at this point. Again thanks for the instructions on the Fd couldn't find those instructions if the manual.

This guy is one the best. Do not take a Ice Scraper. That is how you damage things. # 2 do not try to be a re-frig. repair person. #3 Pull off left panel an mess with wiring (Nice idea with water involved)? # 4 As a person that did A/C long time if you leave doors open sucks in humidity , moisture that will ice up coils. #5 Most important push the reset button upper right side of your ice maker holed till chime. Hope this helped!!

Thank you!! For five months I've had issues with my ice maker only producing a handful of ice cubes at a time, but after trying your forced defrost trick, it works perfectly! Samsung needs to add this kind of thing to the manual, because their 'trouble shooting tips' don't help at all.

Thanks Chris. Just what I needed to, hopefully, fix my ice maker. The other problem (or one of the other problems) everyone knows about who has this POS refrigerator is the persistent water leak into the two deli drawers. I had to deal with this for a long time before I found a video telling me about the heat transfer clip that needed to be installed and the clogged drain tubes for the freezer and refrigerator. I found it interesting that Samsung knew enough about that problem to conveniently have a kit for sale that that addresses this. Purchased parts from a local appliance repair shop for a fraction of what Samsung wanted and, so far, all is dry in deli tray land. Thanks again brother.

This video definitely helped me out too! Purchased in the fall of 2016 and the ice maker immediately failed. It was replaced under warranty and I've never had a problem again until now. I was able to get the bucket opened (I was told by the original tech that it required a tech to open it) and found it completely frozen up. Was able to defrost using this process along with some chipping away with a knife. I have reset ice maker and now the wait begins to see if it worked. Thanks for posting, Chris!

Thank you so much for showing us how to do this with the force defrost. We have been using a blow dryer which always makes me nervous (water & electricity) so this is so much safer and I’m not having to break out my mini meat tenderizer hammer to break up ice anymore. Yeah I know, I probably shouldn’t use a hammer but desperation calls for desperate measures. We have been blow drying and breaking up ice for 4-5 years now and we are just fed up with this product. Worse $2000 I’ve ever spent on a refrigerator. Shame on Samsung for not offering free replacements on a newer design model to customers who are stuck with this piece of (you know what).

Forced defrost worked great for us. Ice maker was great for the first 5 years. Did need to buy a new ice bucket as it had cracked, probably from the first time we had to yank it out. Chris, thanks for the second vid. We bought this fridge July 2016. It never had an ice maker issue. We sold the house and the fridge had to be stored for 7 months. Before bringing it in the new house, I cleaned the condenser coils with compressed air. Then ran the fridge from Jan 2019 until March of this year when the first blockage occured in the ice maker. This may sound silly but the first blockage happened after raising the glass glass next to the ice maker into the vertical position. So I thought that maybe this was making the side of the ice maker warm since it was blocked by the shelf. I noticed the shelf in the fridge of your vid is also upright. But then your explanation of the silicon missing at the bottom left blew my theory out the window. I will check for that on mine. BTW, the ice tray did free up after putting it in defrost mode after about 10 minutes. Mine wasn't iced up too badly.
@katemory104 жыл бұрын
UGGH! I followed these steps exactly. Once in Fd mode, it beeped continuously and did not defrost. Any thoughts? Thanks!
@southjerseypinball4 жыл бұрын
@@katemory10 maybe you didn't let it defrost long enough or the heating element for defrost is bad. I think when the beeping stops the dedeost cycle has ended. It depends how much build up of ice you have. If element has failed try a hair dryer.

Great video. Good explanation. I finally got this to work on my Samsung RF22K counter depth that has the split freezer / flex freeze lower doors (not drawers). You have to press the Freezer and FlexZone buttons at the same time; the FlexZone is where the Lighting button is on many other models. If you don't get the beep when the screen blanks, try again (like it showed in the video, very important). Some models seem to have a "RD" mode (refrigerator defrost) but not mine. But I did get into the FD and it seems to have worked. I did take out the ice bucket and put in a towel while it ran. Finally! This presentation was the clue.

As soon as he walked through my door he mentioned that there is a software upgrade to address this problem. Apparently the new software better regulates the temperature of the ice maker. Of course this is not advertised and you need to have a Samsung representative to come out before they tell you. It's been one month since the software was upgraded and the ice maker has been working perfectly. Took the guy 10 minutes to load the software and that was it...

I had this problem. I used marine grade silicone and sealed all the cracks/openings between icemaker and frig. You need to take the panel off where the wires are inside icemaker to get to some of these cracks. Sealed these and have not had anymore trouble with freezing over.

This is great, thanks. I've been chopping away at my accumulated ice every once in while. I like this forced defrost option - it'll help. I also saw in another video that if it still doesn't work there's a reset button on the top right hand side of the ice maker.

Thanks Chris for the "secret sauce". Does Fd only affect the icemaker or should I move all the food out of the fridge and freezer while this is running?

Only defrost ....

There’s a service bulletin for the fix. Needs sealant on the bottom left of the compartment. There’s a small gap that allows air from the fridge into the ice compartment.

Will Samsung fix this even if not under warranty?

Where do we find the Service Bulletin? Do we need to contact Samsung? Thanks for any help on this....
