Hi Sam, Steve from GAP Diagnostic here. Great vid! Thanks for the praise. I just wanted to mention a couple of things real quick: - On first glance, the IIDTool may seem expensive. OBD2 is an open standard for emissions testing and required by law in most countries. As it is an open standard, installing it on a diagnostic tool/system creates virtually no costs - it covers only emissions relevant systems (motor and auto trans, though some manufacturers add more features to make the tool more attractive such as brake systems or SRS systems so that body shops can turn off Airbag lights after an accident). All functions above and beyond that require very time consuming (=expensive) reverse engineering. And leaving aside traits common to any mass produced item such as quality, ease of use, manuals (ours is 160pages strong!) etc, GAP Diagnostic is the only aftermarket diagnostic system manufacturer that actually offers support. We want to ensure that our customers, the vast majority of whom are not professional mechanics and dabbling in the very daunting world of auto diagnostics for the first time(s), have a real benefit from the IIDTool. We don't want our customers to be frustrated either due to a missing function or the inability to use a function or effect a repair. All of this is expensive and has to be supported through IIDTool sales. As such, the IIDTool is not that expensive (IMHO :-p). - VIN Lock: while I understand your frustration at not being able to use the IIDTool on any LR without worrying about having to purchase another VIN license, ALL functions that are VIN locked are beyond the scope of any other LR diagnostic tool including the iCarsoft (see "Full Diagnostic Capability" and "Advanced Programming Functions" about halfway down the page www.gap-diagnostic.com/products/iidtool/). As such, your IIDTool is just as useful on all of your Land Rovers as your iCarsoft. The idea you mention regarding sharing (shhhh🤫 😉) is what lead to the VIN lock. We'd love to help everyone but we need to sell IIDTools if we are to be able to continue to provide the products and services we do. And trust me, we aren't getting rich 😅 Great vid, tho. And please let us know if we can improve anything or if you need a function that is not included. The IIDTool is actually capable of being just as powerful as LR's own diagnostic software (even more so in some instances such as height reprogramming or TPMS disabling) but we don't program every last function in as it is not necessary (eg. turning on dash lights individually to check systems/bulbs) for 99.99% of all users and only adds unnecessary development costs.

Thanks for the comment Steve! I appreciate that it’s expensive to develop and support high quality products like the IID tool, and I think I speak for the LR community when I say we’re thankful that you guys did so! Regarding sharing though, I’m of the opinion that when you purchase a product you should have the ability to use it as you wish - including using it to help friends and family out occasionally. I appreciate the need to differentiate a “pro” level tool from a consumer tool - but I would really love to see the consumer version get 2 or 3 VIN numbers as standard instead of just one. Lots of us LR fans own multiple Landies, so having to pay extra per VIN on top of an already expensive tool is a bit too much in my opinion! Regarding features, the only one I’ve wanted for is injector balance numbers/ data for the 4.4 TDV8. I believe it’s available for the 3.6 and other diesels but not the 4.4 🤔.
@Steve_MFr
@Steve_MFr Жыл бұрын
@@SamsMotors Hi Sam, Unfortunately LR did not implement the injector balance info for the 4.4. It is only available for the earlier motors. I can't tell you why... Regarding the VIN lock, yes we had to differentiate from the Pro tools, but we also need to make money. 😛And yes, as callous as it sounds, our thoughts were to make sharing somewhat less attractive (und thus hopefully sell more units) while not charging all too much for additional VIN licenses. Adding additional VIN licenses to one unit would have meant a higher retail price for that unit. And we are already above the others in price so that we chose not to go in that direction.

@@handyfreightthat will probably be because LR started using different protocols from 2017 onwards. I know that’s the case for VAG cars, VCDS started having more patchy functionality with newer cars. L322 4.4V8 & IID owner - they also recently added the ability to trigger a dynamic DPF regeneration (it had been in beta for a while before), meaning you can watch how full your DPF is via the IID tool then force a regen when going for a run over 50mph, ensuring you don't get the dreaded amber/red DPF warnings. It's almost worth the price for that alone if you aren't frequently getting good longer uninterrupted runs in your car.

Really great video man. I just purchased a 2024 Jaguar F-Type R. I'd like to have one of these things on hand for when the inevitable occurs, have some insight into provlems etc...I've read and have the impression that this iCarsoft v3 one you are talking about here is not a bad choice for a Jaguar, but one of the things I've read is that it will not give you back all the digits of the different codes, or something like that? So you you'll get 4 or 5 digits of what should be 6 digit code or something. I have the impression that perhaps a more expensive Autel device might give the full and best information? Do you know it that would be the case? I'm the type that, if I'm gonna put money out, I don't mind putting a little extra cash forward if I'm getting a more accurate/better tool. Just trying to decide if it is worth the extra expense upfront, and the need to pay 100 to 150 bucks a year to keep it updated. Try to avoid potentially putting good money over bad. I'm far from a pro, a DIYer for sure, but I'd like to have something useful that could help me get a bit more adventurous if I chose to etc...In any case, thanks again for the great video...Really useful stuff here...

Hi Sam, I hope you are doing well. After watching this video a couple of times, I decided to go with the iCarSoft LR 3.0 scanner. I’m hoping it will reset the “Service Required” message. I’m not finding that right away. Do you know or remember if it has this functionality? I have the ‘11 RR HSE 5.0 naturally aspirated.

Hi great vid, ive been toying with the idea of the icarsoft v3.0 or ssd for my 2015 jaguar xe . The main reason is i had the "sos limited functionality " warning message, ive replaced the battery in the telematics module but the warning hasn't cleared. Do you know if the icarsoft can talk to the telematics system to reset it or read if there is another possible fault?? Think I'll forget about ssd after reading your comments. Will the iid tool talk to the telematics module??

@SamsMotors

If it has been cleared there's no way to check what faults were on it. The only thing you can do is to drive it. A long (45 mins+) test drive with a few start/stop cycles and varied driving conditions should reveal any fault codes that were previously cleared.

Thanks for the comment! Is it a genuine laptop & SDD installation? As the copy I have is not, and as such it's a bit risky to use for the more invasive procedures like flashing and editing CCFs for the risk of bricking something. If genuine and a late enough version to work with your car, it's probably worth the money, but the IID tool is easier and more convenient to use and with 95% of the capability.
