A dumb take from Posey is what that is ... That's like saying Ohtani doesn't want to play for LA and live in one of Hollywood or Westwood or Santa Monica or Burbank or Beverly Hills or Bel Air or Calabasas all because 1 -2 square miles of downtown LA is a apocalypse hell hole ... SF county just like LA county are both gigantic and the overwhelming majority of places to live and go are really nice Ohtani didn't sign with the Giants because it's a literal toss up if they make the playoffs each year , LA is damn near a lock to make the playoffs every year ... Another factor could of been how hard it is to hit home runs in Oracle Park ... Remember Ohtani isn't like Barry Bonds who pulled most of his home runs , Ohtani likes gap home runs and dead center home runs which are the furthest distances in Oracle Park

Los Angeles is a crap shoot too its just they hide it better. I think it comes down to the team. I am a huge giants fan and its sad to see the lack of real talent coming through our farm. While I think we are not Angels levels of awful at producing talent. We are just outclassed by the dodgers rn in a big way. I think we are trying to copy them at their game when we could build teams around pitching and run prevention. The dodgers pitching is good for a couple years then get super injury prone. We can turn random guys into frontline pitchers and combining that with defense and small ball will bring this organization back into its peak again. Same money will never work when they produce better talent than us consistently.

I live in SF. Most of the city is a S#!TSHOW. Besides, in the past, and now, most of the Giants players don't live there, they live in nearby communities with better living conditions. (The same could be said for A's players/Oakland). The primary reason most players won't sign there is the ballpark. Oracle Park punishes hitters, and while not as cold as Candlestick Park was, night games still get chilly there

@@dailyamperes it's the constant light handed approach to the crime. The higher ups in SF literally tie the hands of law enforcement and because of that businesses suffered both local and corporate. The crime is so bad that people just straight up left. The homeless issue is become so bad, the higher ups don't care about at all, with record number of homeless people battling their inner demons and subjecting themselves to lethal doses of fetynal and other drugs. And the what's worse is the city has the capability of cleaning up the city, it was proven when the Chinese came to SF all the homeless were rounded up overnight and moved (where I don't know)but proves that the city can do it, they just don't care. And all of this with living expenses that are ridiculously high for a place that really is no different than other bigger cities in America. Don't get me started with the rent and taxes...

They've made the postseason for a decade straight, but only have 1 ring (Yes, it is a ring even though Dodgers fans are the only ones to count it as a ring). Hopefully Ohtani can take the Dodgers somewhere because they've had superstars on their team to only flop in the postseason consistently. Dude, SF isn't nearly as bad as LA is. I've been to both cities multiple times. Almost all major cities in California have some spots that are straight up terrible. It's a horribly expensive place to live, and anywhere there's a high poverty line there's high crime. Until a lot of these places become cheaper to live and thrive in, we're going to keep seeing horrible conditions in major cities across America. NYC is the same way. So is Miami. So is every major American city.

The problem is that there are housing crises in cities especially. I live in the San Fernando valley (probably know where it is if you live in LA) one of the nicest areas in all of LA. But downtown/east/south LA are all full of graffiti, crime and all of that. Taxes are a big part of it, however it’s not for the reason many republicans especially think. Tax rates in California are higher than almost anywhere in earth, but we have a 20 dollar minimum wage, higher than anywhere else in the country, and we tax the poor much less rigorously than the rich. The job market has expanded under Biden, the quality of life has generally increased. The problem is mostly interest rates/inflation that has plummeted both San Francisco and Los Angeles. People can’t afford homes and it’s mostly because of COVID, so my point is that we can blame COVID for all our problems.

While Oakland players had to drive around the Bay to get home to Oakland through San Jose. While in Oakland the double decker Nimitz Freeway had collapsed while the upstanding citizens of Oakland swarmed onto the freeway to help themselves........... Aka Judge, Ohtani etc. We get players that are trying to bounce back or past their best years and it just doesn't pan out. We have a solid young core coming in with Bailey, Schmitt etc. We need to continue developing our young players and sign some game changer professional athletes. Not just athletes but professionals. Every major city has its problems and as I am mad at Farhan for doing nothing we gotta keep the city itself out of it because it’s just straight horeshit. Sorry, rant over.

I lived in SF for the first 6 years of my life, but moved to a small town about 30 minutes from SF and still went to the city often to go to my dad’s softball games. I’ll say the city has def gotten worse as time has gone on. I moved to AZ in 2020 so I haven’t really gone to the city much. Although I went back to SF this summer and was shocked how many homeless people were there and how much of a mess the city is in. My dad lived in SF for 20 years and he was shocked that the city he lived in for 2 decades and loved is the way it is now. I’ve always had a soft spot for SF bc im a huge Giants fan and I pretty much grew up in SF and it pains me to say this, but the city is a flat out mess rn. The city was once beautiful, but now it has turned into a dump. One thing that really stood out to me tho is how many fans r saying the reports that SF is a dump now is just right wing propaganda bc I can say it’s def not. The homeless surround Oracle Park and they have homeless shelters right outside the ballpark and my guess is players live right outside where the homeless r so I can’t say I blame FAs for passing up on signing with the Giants

Such a shame. And they are such an historic franchise. Just like the A's were. That was also "right wing propaganda" until it wasn't. And the Warriors moved from Oakland to SF will they be moving again? Not such a "golden state", more like the needle state. Such bullshit

LA has a huge homeless issue as well but its spread out over a wider area. There's nothing you see in SF that you don't see in Seattle. The least of SF's problems is its naked cyclists. There are no homes available for hard working mid-high income folks let alone the working poor and those unemployed homeless folks battling addiction and mental illness.

Even if San Francisco & LA were on the exact same level as far as the city itself is concerned, of course Ohtani chooses LA over San Francisco when the offers are identical. Dodgers have a winning culture and boast an extremely dangerous lineup even without Ohtani. Plug him in between Betts & Freeman and watch the insane numbers he's gonna put up. Who does San Francisco have to hit behind Ohtani to keep pitchers honest with him, Mike Yastrzemski?!

@@jc24445 Wow, you're literally one of the few people on this page who actually knows the game of baseball. Everyone else on here, just wants to be a whiny, scared little rich kid and trash our city... because daddy didn't shield their eyes from downtrodden "homeless people and homosexuals." Anyways, yes, Scutaro was an interesting story, he spent a good portion of his career with Oakland. He was more of a scrappy player, who had a solid career, but far from great. There are all kinds of people who analyze the game as if it's a science. Someone from the Giants must have noticed something with Scutaro during that time and they took a chance on him. From that point on, all he did was smack the ball all over the place. You're right, big free agents typically go to only a handful of teams. The New York teams, Boston, Philly, Chicago Cubs, LA, and Texas. Make no mistake, the Dodgers are very good and they look even better on paper. Key words though, "on paper" because those are a lot of egos on one team and baseball is a team sport. On a final note, Bonds also grew up around the Bay Area, so he had several personal ties to SF beyond his family.

As someone who lives in SF and someone who’s lived in the Bay Area my whole life. It sucks to see the perception SF has on players and the rest of the country. I really think the problems this video says about the city are overblown, and other big cities have similar problems. Not to say the problems dont exist. The only difference is that SF’s grimy areas happen to be downtown and in touristy areas, where thats not the case in other big cities like LA, Chicago, etc. SF actually ranks pretty low in violent crimes compared to other major cities in the country. Don’t get me wrong, SF def has its problems, especially with homeless people and drug use, but its not as bad as its been made out to seem. Im glad the vid tho highlights that we shouldnt be upset at the Giants front office for not landing stars

Can we be really honest here. Does anyone really think LA doesn’t have a homeless issue? Does anyone really think that LA is a bastion of safety? Does anyone really think LA doesn’t have a drug problem? I was recently in LA, and I can report it’s filthy. Sure SF is dealing with similar issues but LA is about 4x the size SF with 4x the filth. Ohtani didn’t pass on the Giants because it was too unsafe for him, that’s bullshit. Ohtani signed with LA because they unlike the Giants currently have a winning culture. That’s it. Everyone riding the doom loop narrative knows nothing about SF and they’re parroting the shit they hear on Fox News, all the while LA a enormous filthy, crime ridden city flies under the radar. Hang it already with this tired, tired story.
