During a CNN debate over the future of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare, Sen. Bernie Sanders asked Sen. Ted Cruz if healthcare should be a right for all Americans. Republicans are currently working to repeal the ACA, but this could lead to millions of people being uninsured.

Why is the cash price for health care at a hospital a fraction of what they charge your insurance company? Here's my experience: Last year I went to a dermatologist to have a procedure done and was told it couldn't be done in his office. I had the same procedure done by another doctor years before in his office but thought I'd try someone closer to home. This doctor referred me to a surgeon who would do it for $1300 cash (all at once), or $3500 with payments. I didn't ask how much it would be if I had insurance, which I didn't have. The hospital charge was another story. They would give me a huge discount if I paid cash within a short time period (60 days, I think), which was $7000. When I asked why so much I was told they usually charge $55,000 (yes, fifty five thousand dollars), if I had insurance. I cancelled the surgery and went back to my original doctor who did it in his office for $450. Yes, you read that right, four hundred and fifty dollars. When there's a natural disaster there are price gouging laws, why not for health care?

Americans also have access to a Lamborghini... You go to a dealership and give 250,000 and you will be the proud owner of a Lamborghini . The problem is most people do not have $250,000 dollars... Healthcare is expensive but the only difference is people need it to survive where as you do not need a Lamborghini to survive...

For a bill that's called the Affordable Care Act, it did not make Health Care overall much affordable lol. If the bill itself would live up to the name, then it would have certain provisions that would fix the healthcare system like these provisions. Provision 1 - Have an antitrust bust on the medical monopolies / monopolize conglomerates of health insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies and hospital systems with also finding ways to make medical schools affordable. Provision 2 - Reforming Medicare to become a public health insurance option for the middle class and the upper class ( in which they can opt in to pay taxes to the program ) that would only cover hospital services that relate to catastrophic care and maternity care. People in the middle class and the upper class can opt out of paying taxes for a public health insurance option if they want to purchase private health insurance. Not to mention there needs to be interstate competition in all 50 states being legal for health insurance companies. Provision 3 - Have a prescription drug importation program that would allow International competition with pharmaceutical drugs. Provision 4 - Create a law that would only allow health insurance ( regardless if it's a public health insurance option or private health insurance ) to cover hospital services that are related to catastrophic care and maternity care. That way it would incentivize people to go to health clinics for the majority of their healthcare needs like a primary care malpractice that has a Direct Primary Care type of business model. Provision 5 - Maintain the Medicaid Program to take care of overall health care needs for people that are poor.

And Cruz is going to say "But ... but what about private options!? Americans should have choice!" Yes, because its not against the best interest of for-profit health insurance companies to give insurance to someone with a preconditioned illness. How about this for choice Cruz: I can choose to go to any doctor I want WITHOUT the need for insurance (where I don't need to pay a thing), and if I want a doctor that will cover more frivolous things, I can pay for those things with a private insurance plan. Seems like the most options to me.

Good Will A right to health care could stop medical bankruptcies. About 62% of all US bankruptcies were related to medical expenses in 2007, and 78% of these bankruptcies were filed by people who already had medical insurance. In 2010, there were 30 million Americans who were contacted by a collection agency about a medical bill. If all US citizens were provided health care under a single-payer system medical bankruptcy would no longer exist, because the government, not private citizens, would pay all medical bills.
