Those folks are treated liked garbage by USPS management. Often having to work 10-12 hour days, 6 days a week, often not knowing when their next day off is going to be. I’ve been hearing that the post office makes their mail carriers work long hours with hardly any days off. So an example is you will work for eight days straight for 12 hours a day and only get one day off and you repeat the cycle. That would burn out anybody after a while. The old mail carriers started from day one as a career position mail carrier and got there two days off a week but now you start off as a temporary mail carrier until you reach career status and you will not have two days off a week which will burn a lot of people out.

So unless things have radically changed, no they can't work you more than 6 in a row for 12 hours, honestly I don't think they could even afford you. But if it is happening, go to the Union or get a lawyer, and that will be rectified really fast. A bad apple actually tried to work me 7 days when I worked for them once, but she got stopped so I couldn't take action against her. As far as long hours, it depends. At least when I worked for them they couldn't go over what ever the state allows regularly, an exception would be made during peak season and I believe during voting time but that would be a decision that comes from up top, not local postmaster, I hated it but other carriers would try to squeeze as many hours as they could. I think after 60 hours we went into double pay, didn't see the point since you loose so much in taxes. Realized that during the pandemic they might have been allowed to do things that were not legally allowed before, if that is the case, there is a good chance it will revert.

Govt employee perks.. including free college.. govt loans ,, etc.. .Top carriers make over 100k a year.. govt medical benefits. And too many more perks that cant be explained to a non postal worker. DONT BELIEVE ME?? Ask your local regular carrier about the wages, And top earnings. Everyone feels underpaid at any job.. but remember No no college is needed for these workers to reach middle working class status.

I’m a letter carrier at the post office. The truth is, I love it. Straight up. And to be clear, I joined at almost 40 years old (I’m 45). I went to college and had a corporate career before this (laid off). Is there BS? Yep Can mgmt be BS? Yep Can your fellow coworkers and carriers be BS? Yep Guess what? What job DOESNT have that BS? However, it is manageable. 2 words: low profile. All you have to do is make it 6 months and if you haven’t figured out how to carry the mail, you ain’t gonna’. It’s tricky but until you get the hang of it, you’ll be in for aches, pains, and more. And afterwards, still aches, pains and more, but not nearly as bad as in the beginning. And then you’ll be like me: silently laughing about all the IDIOTIC things some of these brat carriers say and think they know about the workforce outside. We got it good. And like I said, in 6 months or less, you’ll be like many of us: Casing, loading and delivering a full route, on foot (park and loop), standing on one hand, with 3 hours of OT afterward. Perfect day. You roll in every day with a solid job well done, and you’ll just laugh all the way to the bank. I know I do. 😊 Many comments are about “It suck’s. Don’t work there. Garbage mgmt.” Well, I work there. I was there today, and will be there again tomorrow. And I dig it: the uniforms, the benefits, the overtime. I dig it. And that’s what it takes. You want a career with USPS? You’ll only make it, if you want it. 👍

Only if you're career for awhile. There's no benefits for rca (sub). No holiday pay, low pay, minimal leave you can earn. Most carriers that have been there a long time say they wouldn't do this job now if they were just starting. Also, a lot of carriers' pay went down and lost their day off. Worst part is pay is the same regardless of where you live. Live in California and you’re on the poverty line. If you live in let’s say Ohio, you’re living good. Any union negotiations usually stop between regions because those in low cost of living areas want to push for better benefits, where those is high cost of living areas want higher pay. The national system is a huge issue.

I live in a suburb between Dayton and Cincinnati Ohio. I been looking at usps jobs due to being burnt out on 3rds, been at FedEx freight over 9 years. The starting pay for a CCA in my city is 19.33 per hour. The town next to me has a RCA rural at 19.94. Man I want that day shift but FedEx pays 28.96 an hour to drive a forklift around lol and almost all these comments seem negative about usps.
@ARandomDonut Жыл бұрын
This job all depends on what type of management you have. There were a couple of nights that corporate was on management's asses and they were making me, a CCA, do rural stuff. But most days at my station, things are pretty tolerable. Our union branch president works at my station, which makes it really easy to ask questions about stupid things management does sometimes. But mostly this job depends on your management and staffing levels. Last year my station's CCAs were working 14 hour days every day. This year we are generally doing 8s on average, maybe 9 or 10 hour Mondays. Some days in the middle of the week can be 7 or even 6 hours sometimes. We have double the CCAs this year compared to last year. Stations with bad management are just asking for trouble, since that leads to low staffing levels, and more work for people who get there, and higher turnover rate when they are actually able to hire someone.

I've heard stories about the past, finishing your route early and going to the local food place with other carriers and heading back in your 8 hours. Now we're gps tracked and asked when we sit still for more than 4 mins. Pay has increasingly gone down, this job is on par with fast food wages for 4x the work and risk to life, health, mental etc. That's why no one is working here, add that to the management demand of your entire life and the disrespect and you get a terrible fed up workforce.

If USPS is anything like the Canadian Postal service, the job itself is great. You can meet many cool people on your route and end up making some good friends. The downside is the management that plays games with you to make your life miserable, and a union that takes your money and only backs you if it benefits them to do so. Management is absolutely attrocious. The supervisors have never delivered a letter in their life yet always act like they know the job better.
