Love these high-level industry interviews. Fascinating to see where John has come around to Sandy's side and where there's still sticking points of disagreement. The auto industry hasn't been shaken up like this for a while, and I can tell you guys are having fun thinking and talking about where it's headed. Thanks for sharing the wisdom!

Looks like we've come full circle. If I recall correctly, Sandy's first bout of fame in the Tesla community came from a video that John uploaded of Sandy lambasting the Model 3's original build quality, followed by a video of Sandy praising the electronics.

Well. I guess he said it, although it has been a long time coming. I've watched episodes of Autoline - After Hours, and Daily, over the years, and the amount of clap-trap, " return to the good ol' days" talk [as Sandy would call it] that one would hear used to make my jaw drop repeatedly. The better/best moments have been whenever Sandy has been on since he saw the BEV light [because he wasn't always like that - find an old A-AHs episode], and he would educate them. It's true you could hear John's attitude slowly changing, but Gary Vasilash would try desperately to find something negative to say about Tesla, or BEVs in general. As I've heard Sandy say, "these people will be swept away with the [B]EV tide."

What a fun, edifying video. I'm watching it again. Me? I started working on cars for money in 1962. From lot boy, mechanic, service manager, car sales, sales manager and GM at dealerships and independents alike. Never "domestic" mostly German and Subaru. At 77, I'm still at it, working at a company that converts RV generator systems to solar and lithium. I've been following John for years and Sandy since KZbin. I learned of Dr. Deming years back and I'm still influenced by his methods today. Thanks again for all you two are doing to move the industry along. Cars beat walking - still.

Herbert "tried an Elon".... If I say we need it in 2 years and we make it in 5 years.... History will be kinder to him than them.

A large portion of that "40%" will come around. Economics will be a big driver. When it's cheaper to buy electric along with the lower opex will change their mind. And some will have to age out, while keeping their old ICEVs on the road. I'm old enough to remember the resistance to moving from radios to TVs, B&W TVs to color, slide rules to pocket calculators, typewriters and ledger books to desktops, landline to cell phones, film to digital. Resistance breaks down in a surprisingly short time.

A golf course by me did a Halloween haunted house and it was all electric golf carts 20 years ago. Parents weren't supposed to, but a lot of young kids got to drive sitting on their parent's laps. It is crazy to think it took so long for people to connect the dots and realize golf courses were ahead of the curve. They quickly learned electric was way better and more reliable.

John hit the nail on the head…. the OEMs came out with junk cars in their first round because they lacked vision. Knowing that govts we’re going to require EVs they should have clean sheeted their EVs but they didn’t think that far ahead…. always wanting to do the minimum. The only thing OEMs are really good at is reactive policies. Their management, after the passing of their founders, has always been reactive NOT proactive. This is going to be seen by historians as the central reason for their ultimate downfall.

33:14 An interesting number that not a lot of people are talking about is the fact that GM produced nearly 8,200 Cadillac LYRIQ at Spring Hill during 2022. The fact that only 122 made it into customer hands that year means that something other than production capacity was holding up deliveries. Great to see Sandy and John share their wisdom. PHEV users who rarely engage the ICE unit will "at least" have to buy non-ethanol fuel and stabilizers similar to the marine and small engine industries. Ethanol phase separates over time resulting in fuel system failure. Gasoline has a shelf life and eventually must be drained from the tank and system.

@@MunroLive huge difference between china and japan dipshits, japan wasnt our enemy after ww2...china is our current mother fucking enemy just like japan used to be pre ww2 you stupid fuck, plus tesla's charging network sucks i live in one of the most heavily populated area's of virginia and there is only one charging station in the entire city and it's @ the fucking mall lol what a joke electric vehicles are a fucking joke they are heavier and wear tires faster shittier for offroad because high centered less open spots under the vehicle for rock or something to go in they wear down our roads more and we can hardly keep them maintained now muchless millions and millions of ev's the power grid cant handle millions and millions of ev's plugged in either they cant tow for shit they lose range just sitting in heat or cold unlike gasoline, charging times are dogshit they're a major fire hazzard you cant just fill them up with a can of electricity whats cheaper gas can/grabbing acouple gallons or thousand dollar portable battery pack that would take 60 hours to give it 2 % juice lol if you run out. they will be monetized pieces of shit the whole things terrible besides electric vehicles are out of date technology compared to ice vehicles, 1835 vs 1863, the design of electric vehicles trash also they are adding way too many things that are going to fail on them even somerthing as simple as charging port door or door handles its all one laughable joke besides all the stuff used to make batteries are finite resources just like gasoline and even more destructive to habitats. Besides they're a bitch to even tow the fuckers if you break down lol FUCK YOUR GODDAMN POWER WHEELS SOUND ABOUT RIGHT?

@@MunroLive I try to read and scan as many of the comments on your videos and a few others online as much as possible and I gotta tell you, 99% of the population even you guys that are supposed "experts" really have no idea in the world what is "really" going on or won't admit to it. You gotta subconsciously KNOW the American Government, legacy automotive sector and the oil 🛢 industry is owned and operated by literal NAZIS of ww2. I use nazis a lot as a general umbrella 🌂 term but honestly, you do the research you find out that is literally true. You get up here on KZbin like you are some big wig old school automotive engineer and maybe you were but while you were busy trying to figure out ways to save money 💰 on a fcking fastener, your GOVERNMENT in collusion with the legacy oems was purposely preventing and suppressing battery electric vehicles from market and hydrogen technologies from market. You refuse to touch this reality of truth with a 100ft pole with a lame 4680 d cell battery 🔋 attached to it. I am FURIOUS with not only the ill informed public but the supposed EXPERTS that get on KZbin blowing smoke up everyone's azz about what "really" happened the past 100 years. It's a sick, twisted story of my country and its dirty corporations and you were part of the scam on the American people... Good Luck in Texas with the classified defense sector actor known as Elon Musk... If one of these fusion labs goes balls to the wall Elon Musk is screwed, he had better adopt and adapt to the hydrogen technology or he is gonna have all sorts of tomatoes 🍅 and lawsuits thrown at him for his lies 😉
