DOUBLE LIFT. It’s the start of 99 percent of tricks. What would the world be without it? Simple yet effective.

My favourite Card trick is acaan because it gets the best reactions one can get and I also love it because when I see people performing it I also get fooled sometimes . It is the next level trick all thanks to David berglas

Any good control. Why? Because it is so versatile and able to transform into multiple tricks with multiple hits.

I really like the double lift. I've been doing magic for about a year, but no matter how many times i use this, nobody picks up on it. I feel like its so simple, and me being a begginer you'd think I'd be really bad at fooling people. However, every time i perform I'll do a trick with this and it gets em everytime.

I love the backslip force, great way to have the spectator stop a riffle and have it seem incredibly fair. Lots of applications!
@garymillar52974 жыл бұрын
The Emsley count. I love it when you show 4 face down cards and then when someone taps the pack the Ace turns face up. you then continue as the 2, 3 and 4 turn face up and finally show the fifth card to be the Queen of hearts who was your assistant during the performance

This was one of the best Top Change tutorials I have seen on KZbin. Most tutorials just cover the change itself, but Jay gives a variation, plus a couple applications. I am actually thinking I would do a similar trick, but after showing the wrong Card, and then doing the top change, when I am looking baffled and trying to "search" for the correct card, I would put the actual card down during that offbeat. I would then ask the spectator to name there card, and be, honestly unable to locate their card in the deck: Even hand them the deck and ask them to search for their card. When you, or they, fail at finding their card point to the card you unsuspiciously put down just moments ago, and say to inquisitive question ("This is the only card left, do you think this could be your card"? or something) then reveal their card. Also, Chris Ramsey teaches this as a way to stop hecklers. As them the chose a card, and fail to locate it. Do the top change, and while astonished that you failed, show the card (now the actual selected card) to the other spectators, but still out of view of the heckler. Ask the heckler to state his card out loud so everyone knows that you failed, and when they name the card you showed everyone else, the heckler will be made to look a fool. Pretty awesome. As for my favorite sleight, well, all my sleights suck. But my favorite is probably the cull. So powerful because it looks so fair, and truly goes under the radar. Every motion seems like it belongs. I like it so much I use it in my Chicago Opener (Red Hot Mama) routine. I place my force card 5th from the top, and then do a cull force for the second part of the routine to get the spectator to select the 5th card. Works so smooth, but again, even my cull is not that good.. YET.

One of my all time favourite card sleights is the classic palm. That is because it enables you to control one or more cards while apparently being in no control over the cards at all as one can for example invite the spectator to shuffle.
@isaiahwarlock4 жыл бұрын
My favorite sleight is the pass, because of how versatile it is, and because it's fairly difficult to learn, but once you learn it there's so many things you can do with it that you couldn't do before.
@Riddict4 жыл бұрын
The glide Love this sleight and have used it for decades now. It can be done right under their noses, fully surrounded. No suspicious movement involved at all since it happens so fast. Holding the deck just above the waist, then lowering it just slightly to waist level to remove the card and the move is already done and it's all performance after that. Not once has anyone caught me doing the move. An absolute classic sleight that when used with a great effect, just blows em away every time Jay. I have dozens of various effects I use that sleight for. I remember first learning that move in an old card trick book back in the late 80s, and ever since it has stood the test of time.
@alexrisenhoover38574 жыл бұрын
My favorite sleight is a face up pass. Idk if what thats what it actually called, but i love it because they can select any card when you fan them out and when you flip the deck its on the top. It is such an ambitious move that its hard to understand why it works everytime

The bottom palm. Palming a card from the bottom of the deck and depositing it on the top is so smooth and undetectable. Love Sankey magic!

@jaspervandersteene90774 жыл бұрын
If you are new to magic I would begin with learning the double lift, a force, a peek and a control. From that point you'll know more about magic and you can do what you prefer.
@kevinj90594 жыл бұрын
You could have them hold the "wrong" card while you're looking through the deck trying to find the right card. Then blame them for screwing up the trick: revealing they are actually holding their chosen card.
@freshboss2854 жыл бұрын
Jay sounds good but how do you keep them from turning it over
@kevinj90594 жыл бұрын
@@freshboss285 Have them hold out one hand, palm up. Place card face down in their hand. Have them cover the card with other hand.
@taitjohnson4 жыл бұрын
i love the force because if you do it enough times they can catch on, and you can base an entire routine on making the audience think they caught on then, BOOM you were still several steps ahead if you make something feel like a move the there was none then the since of deception and misdirection is really strong
@martinbansey7194 жыл бұрын

My favorite card sleight is actually the top change. How convenient! I like that it can be done on an off beat. How it can be done in seemingly full view. How you could adapt it to reveal two cards for two separate spectators. It's just so casual a fluid, I always love using it.

I haven't used this in a long while, but there's a color switch card sleight that I like a lot. I think it's by Cardini? Extremely fast "visual" switch of a card shown face up on the top of a deck that switches to another card right before the onlookers eye. I love this effect because it's so fast that those watching the trick are never prepared for the switch! Literally blink and you've missed it.
@jacobwohlrabe4 жыл бұрын
I personally like the classic pass and the Herman pass. The move gets people every time. I like it because you can use it as a cool color change if you do it the right way, and it can also be an amazing control. I love to use a pass at the beginning of an ambitious card routine. It really draws the attention of the audience to you because it is so visual and it looks like nothing was done with the deck.
@williamdaniel89124 жыл бұрын
I like the side steal. I probably don't do it 'right' but having come up with a method on my own to transfer a card that I (or a spectator) clearly placed upon the lower half of the deck so that it now resides at the top of the deck carries with it a pleasant nostalgic satisfaction whenever I perform it.
@mikkiwulfsohn16244 жыл бұрын
The convincing control. One of the best controls out there and definitely my farvorite. It looks so clean and also you can cop or palm their selected card away, while it looks like their card is still sticking out of the deck. Great for any card to wallet or pocket routines. Absolutely the best!! Also, thanks so much for doing this Jay!!

Being stuck (mostly) indoors, I began rewatching the Jay Sankey DVD library I've amassed and I had forgotten how INSANE your Piece De Resistance card trick is on Kaleidoscope. It reminded me that one of my favorite slights, even though that trick doesn't really utilize it, is the second deal because it conveys the idea of fairness while being totally unfair. Stay well, my friend, and thanks for the continued content.

my favorite card slight is the slip force, i use it in my bar card magic routine, ive only been caught once, angles, but if you do it right it works every time! what i like about the routine is that every time i use a different force so the spectators have no idea whats going on! love your work! keep up the great work!
@dannydrucker83274 жыл бұрын
My favorite slight is the double lift. What I like about it is that it is very simple and used in so many effects. It can create a very simple but powerful effect.
@barrymendonca26724 жыл бұрын
I like to have spectator pick a card and while shuffling it into the deck, I say it’s 43 from the top of the deck and I do this 2 more times telling them I know exactly how many from the top their card is located, finally I count down to their favorite number and their card is exactly that many from the top! I use the overhand shuffle slipping single cards to the top of the deck counting the appropriate amount of cards onto deck to put their card at their favorite number then I then in-jog a card and continue to shuffle the balance of the cards onto the deck! Then I simply get a break at the in-jogged card and cut off the cards above the jog. Then you can do false cuts and shuffles retaining the top packet of cards then finally count down to his favorite number and magically his card appears at that number! Hope this makes sense! Thanks Jay for your passion and inspiration! Your friend, Barry
@weevil4514 жыл бұрын
My favorite card slight is the double lift. I like it because it astounds people whenever it seems like you switch their card using ‘magic’ but really it was the wrong card to begin with.

My all time favorite card sleight must be the gambler's cop!! I feel tons of satisfaction whenever I nail it on a performance mostly because of how angle sensitive this sleight can be. And also my hand looks more relaxed comparing it with the classic palm.

My favorite card sleight is The Classic Pass. The reason I like the Pass is because if done correctly. No one has any idea anything has happened. As Dai Vernon once said, if a sleight is done correctly? No one should suspect let alone Detect anything has happened. On another note, after trying to learn the Classic Pass for about a year. I learned it from you on one of your old VHS Tapes. Thank you Jay!

My favorite sleight of hand is the second deal. You can use it as a force, a replacement of the double lift and for some great effects in tricks.
@danielhanson37334 жыл бұрын
My favourite sleight is something I call "The Poor Magician's Pass." It's a move that I have used for tricks that use a classic pass, which I have difficulty doing well. It's a technique with no breaks, and it is done more-or-less openly (if you can't conceal a pass, why try?). So far, no one has ever questioned it, and it can even contribute to the mystery.
@filipfras65204 жыл бұрын
My favorite card slide is the one that you have two piles and turn over dive cards on one pile and than show those and sicretly put one card face up on bottom od that pile and complite the čut. This one is my favorite because it was one od my first slides and I get realy good reactions with it.
@shaggy09174 жыл бұрын
I love a good ol' classic pass. Easy to practice mindlessly, so it's not hard to get smooth, and it's such an important, useful move. Similar to a doublelift in ease of practice and breadth of utility, but I love the feeling of the motion of a classic pass. Also, wanted to say I love the name and idea of "Hoodlum". Clever name and a great impetus to create it too, wanting rope magic to be less connected to stage or "classic" magic.
@immike844 жыл бұрын
I love false cuts/shuffles. They are my favorite because I put any card or cards on top and no matter how much I "mix" the cards they are right there on top for me to get to.

Love the Duck change. Just because something about the card changing in mid air makes it all the more magical.
@Ian_Robinson4 жыл бұрын
My favorite one would have to be the top change because I first learned it from Mr. Sankey and he did a very good job at describing every aspect of the trick so now I am good at it.

Overhand shuffling. You can control single cards, a block of cards, two blocks or the whole deck. You can do so much amazing stuff with that. And it looks so common and natural to shuffle cards that way.
@Drago-wg7zs4 жыл бұрын
I guess for me one of my favorites slights I use is the spread cull. It is probably my favorite control out of all. It is really invisible. No spectated ever sees it. Well it does take some practice to make it look so natural but it is definitely worth the invested time. In general culling can be useful for so many different effects.

My all time favorite card slight is the double lift because you can do a lot of amazing things with it and if you learn various methods of doing it you can repeat a trick and do the double lift another way to amaze them again.
@markt.69154 жыл бұрын
I love the top palm man! Not just the one handed top, but I love a beautiful two handed top palm. The action generally requires a small handful of misdirection (god i'm so proud of this pun) that works so well as a casual moment of relaxation. Its that "oh, this wasn't your card?" kind of moment that allows you to make the palm work. I think it was vernon who said something along the lines of never letting your hands come together during a routine, so its the almost "race against the clock" mentality for me, yet somehow feeling like an "all the time in the world" moment instead. I think learning this sleight is something everyone should do just to engage those social muscles of stepping out of the trick and just engaging with the audience.

I’m not a magician, but I just found your videos and I love them! So bare with me, I’m not sure what it is called. I’ve seen a video and maybe it’s a camera trick, but I’d like to think it’s not. A man(with rolled up sleeves) is dealing cards on a table and as soon as the cards touch the table them seem to instantly vanish! This trick blew my mind because I really have no idea how he did it and he did it over and over and over again! He could confidently repeat the same trick and it was still as amazing as the first card. It would be amazing to win, because the hoodie concept really appears to me as someone new to magic! There’s a lot of comments already so you might not see this, but if you do if you even told me the name of the illusion I would greatly appreciate it! Maybe you could make a video on it...

Good stuff bro. New sub. I think the riffle force is my favorite. Riffle the corner, they say stop, you cut the deck and slide forward holding the top card with fingers of the other hand. If practiced this will fool the eye, ... Even if someone knows how to do it. I've done this for fellow magicians that didn't even recognize it. It's all about smoothness and timing.

I’d say that my favorite slight has gotta be the double lift, but more specifically a pinky count. I’ve been doing magic for almost 5 years now and I’ve learned almost everything from tutorials like this. I realize that the double lift is a total beginners move but at the same time you can do SO much with it. It’s a slight that’s used in almost every trick to some degree, plus it can be an entire effect in itself. I hope I’m not being too basic but I love your videos and I just wanna get better
