Met a Dominican Beauty from The Bronx. Use to talk about this shit all the time. I laughed her off. She said. "I'll show you!" Stopped by an old 17th century graveyard. She demanded to get out. I watched stunned as she tore up pages from the Bible and spoke Spanish incantations into the air while she stuffed those pages into that certain old grave she picked out. At three in the morning she walked into the room I was sitting in like something was chasing her. She was cranked on coke but looked over at the one doorway to the room and hit the floor, covered her head and ducked. What I heard next came from every direction at once. It was an angry voice more male than female but neither really. And it screamed "STOP IT!" and then said something else more refined and quiet which neither of us remembered in the morning. 1 Year later her new boyfriend called from New York all frantic and freaked out. He said the T.V. was going off and on and he was hearing voices. I told him. "She's all yours now buddy, good luck!

But yeah the history is understandable since the Spanish had missionaries convert slaves and natives so they mixed voodoo and catholicism for them to convert to it. Joey probably is still spooked by the people involved because they take criticism to seriously and would literally send a saint to reek havoc on your life. I'm not really catholic or Christian anymore but the idea of hell and sin is still intertwined with my morality. It's apart of being agnostic, since you don't know what is God or spirituality is but can't dismiss its existence you hold on to the belief system you were raised in. From what I understood about Joey is that in his child perspective he thought it was cool because it's like magic but as he get older he saw the more sinister stuff so he stays away and just occasionally goes to catholic church.

Santeria and Spiritism Are two different things although they can cross in Santeria. Mesa Blanca is an entire different tradition. I personally don’t mess with neither one or the other thank God. Santeria or Ifa dominate Cuba, Voodoo or 21 Divisions are in then Dominican Republic, and Sanse or spiritism ( mixes both native and French Spiritism) dominate Puerto Rico. The one on Puerto Rico tended to be more from the shamanistic Native American tradition ( occult magic is not allowed but rather only deal with the light). Now and days it’s all convoluted.
