The "talking" part is a tiny little record player. I don't know where it is in this car, but in my 1982 200SX it was a little black box under the trunk deck, on the driver's side. Inside is a teeny little record player, with a nylon record, and a little stylus that it moves from groove to groove to play the different voice announcements.
@award2802 ай бұрын
It's in the far rear passenger corner. You can tell it's analog because when it's really cold, the motor turns the record slower and her voice is deeper.
@ScottsSynthStuff2 ай бұрын
@@award280 Yup, that's how I knew too! I always figured it was a tape loop, but after I wrecked the car, I pulled it out to take it apart just to see how it worked. I was astounded that it was a tiny record player!

Yep, I remember those. A friend of mine had a 200SX that would tell us the door was “a jar”. I don’t think we ever figured out how to make it not talk. The 200SX also had a large component stereo in the dash.

A few ZX facts. The driver's door key hole has a light. At night, if you pull the exterior door handle while the doors are locked, the interior lights come on, and a tiny light in the key hole will light up. When using the systems check in the middle of the instrument cluster, you have to momentarily press the brake pedal for the system to check the brake lights. And, I love the dual fuel guage.

Ok...SUBSCRIBED. I've owned 3 Z cars in my lifetime. '79 280ZX, '83 280ZX Turbo and a '90 300ZX. The '83 Turbo was one of my favorites because of how fast it was. Those tall gears make for some fun 2nd and 3rd gear pulls. My 79 had the analog gauges and my 83 had the Digital dash. As cool as the digital dash was, after having had both, I prefer the analog. (That duel fuel gauge was pretty cool.) I also love that the drivers side window has a separate switch for the "auto" down and up feature. One last thing...in my 79 the dash lights were red where in the 83 they red green. The red looks much cooler! Can't wait to watch your build @SarahnTuned !

That car is gorgeous. Back in the mid 90s, I had a 1979 Datsun 280ZX. Mine was metallic blue. Drove like a boat, point in the direction you wanted to go, and hit the gas. Didn't have the best handling. It was also infested with spiders, and rust. Mine had a rare option called an 8 Track, which was like a cassette but bigger. I still kinda miss it, although my CRX is way more fun to drive.
