As someone who’s only handmade cosplays through tutorials, I’m slowly grasping how to do everything from scratch. What’s nice is that I’m taking my first try and redoing it, allowing me to remember what I liked and what I want to change which provides me with some learning opportunities! This video is SUPER helpful for piecing those moments into a cohesive process, thank you for showing us this!!!

I will add, one important step between 2 and 3 is doing a must/can/may list. Write down the parts of the costume that ABSOLUTELY need to be done, then the parts that are important but not essential, then all that can be omitted. Then do the musts first. This is essential for me bc I always have little time and money so most of my cosplays go live w only the basics, and then add more details later on

I'm starting to plan a Puss in boots costume but with a Spanish Baroque styled outfit, this maybe my sign to start sketching. Also as someone who loves Romantism fashion and studies that, Regency, and Rococo fashion I'm so excited to hear the references and seeing Rebecca Edit: I'm nearly done making the doublet and sword, finish the hat and boots and it'll be ready to go

My sister had her Quince last year, and she had, and I’m guessing will forever keep, the most beautiful forest green dress and had a giant hoop skirt, I was the main chambalan and danced the waltz with her, the hoop skirt was huge so it was naturally difficult to dance around, and the fact she was wearing heels and I had to pick her up was challenging and caused her to step on the inside of the hoop skirt and trip during practice many time, but it was worth it seeing my sister enjoying herself and knowing that night was about her and her alone. I cried a lot that night since I’m very close with her and I was bawling when she and my mother danced since they’ve never had the best relationship but still love each other no matter what happens, so if any girls who are deciding whether or not to have a quince, you should, but make sure to save up, budget it, and plan, it’s extremely pricey and takes years to even save for it, but it’s worth it, it seems like one of the most memorable things to my sister so being apart of that just makes me happy (sorry for the long rant, the hoop skirt just reminded me of her dress lol)

When you mentioned bonnet and historical fashion I knew this project was totally in her wheelhouse, so I think you spoke with one of the best creators to discuss this with, she's got so much knowledge with these types of gowns. Also, having a step-by-step on how you plan for a cosplay is a godsend treasure I'm gonna tuck away for later.

Oh this is so helpful, I’m planning a Céline cosplay from FE Engage and now I have. A way to go about it. A friend recommended your open front hoop skirt for it, which is how I found you, and boy am I glad you have the pattern up, even if I do still have to play around with it to get it the exact way I need. Honestly I rarely comment on videos but here we are, I felt you absolutely deserve to know how helpful you are to the cosplayers like me, who are starting to advance into more complicated homemade cosplays and need a little advice and a little confirmation that yes, it’s possible.

Yes this was fantastic! And definitely no shame on using pieces you already had for the hoop and petticoat. I made one of those flounce historically inspired tiered cotton petticoats (with some crinoline for extra OOMPH) and it was.....a lot 😂 I love it to death now but gosh it was a lot of ruffling and hemming! If I wasn't competing in it I may have gone a different route. At least now I have it to use for future ball gowns

I recognize that Sailor Moon wrap cami shirt! 😊 You inspired me to work on making a dress shirt for myself. I can make skirts, but have never successfully finished a top that actually fits me. After watching you and other KZbinrs figure out how to make clothes and costumes that fit properly, I am trying again. I have already made a mock up in muslin and with my mom's help, have figured out where I need to alter the shirt so it flatters me. Thank you for sharing all your sewing tips and mistakes. It has given me confidence in my own sewing!🥰

Laying out pattern pieces in adobe for yardage is peak genius. I've been laying things out on stash fabric or on a taped off rectangle on my cutting table. A related tip is to have a designated box/basket to keep all supplies for a project as you aquire them.

I FINALLY started my cosplay for summer, I'm making the Sumeru outfit Lisa from Genshin. As soon as the first leaks of her outfit came out, I started to draw out what layers are intact and what are individual pieces. My original plan was to make Lisa's standard outfit, but that plan got scrapped very quick😆 2 days ago I made the first pattern: shorts. I'm so happy I found the motivation to begin, I absolutely HATE patterning, they just don't compute in my brain. So what I did was trace a normal shorts pattern from a sewing magazine in my size and then begin modifying it. And I put pockets in it!! I was planning to start with a corset but tbh I'm quite terrified to make one for the first time😅 but in the end I just need to push myself to start and then it flows on from there, and I have your corset video to guide me!❤️ Your videos do wonders for my cosplay motivation😆 Can't wait to be The Electro Mommies with my friends as Ei and Yae Miko😍

I know I’m late, and I know it’s highly unlikely that you’ll actually see this but one: your videos are helping me so so much, I’m making my Hoco skirt of my dress and this is gonna be my first big project! Second: would you be able to recommend any specific videos? It’s a mermaid skirt shape with a red over skirt that kinda look like scallops (I think that’s what they’re actually called-) and the skirt flair at the bottom has two-three different layers/tiers. The theme for Hoco is the 1970s, but as an emo who hates that much color and practices witchcraft I’m just doing the 1870s. Third: I absolutely love your work and look up to you, you’re a huge inspiration to me and I probably wouldn’t be so into cosplay and sewing projects if I hadn’t come across your page. Much appreciated and much love!!

Maybe you could make a pink edge on the scallops if the petticoat. Depends on how you want to finish them; a pink satin stitch edge finish if you are zig-zagging the edge. Or my quick and easy fabric paint trick; mark the cut line, fabric paint a border that goes past the cut line, once it’s dry cut the excess off - instant non-fray edge and a border pop of color.

I've always pictured doing my strawberries in velvet with little embroidery stitches for the seeds, and a very light flowy ivory muslin for the main dress, so seeing crocheted strawberries and pinkish ''dupe-ioni'' (totally stealing that btw XD) sounds so interesting!!! When I was planning on Eclipsa Butterfly from Star Vs The Forces of Evil, I used the early Edwardian era as my reference, around 1903-1904 since they have long skirts (even for daywear) with trains and lots of volume and I will be using black silk for the petticoat frills and dust ruffles, purple velvet, black lace, and black organza for exterior, and neoprene as a lining to stabilize the velvet for the jacket. Im also using an actual Edwardian skirt pattern as a base but with a few modifications to create a really big hem while keeping the shape exactly the same above the knees because the skirt will be worn with a cotton and silk petticoat, a bustle pad, and my 1890s style corset since Mama (who is me btw) is too lazy to sew another corset from scratch again. I also have a jacket from when I made my Madame Red from Black Butler cosplay which has quite a dramatic back shape in the back and beautiful seam lines and I think it would work especially since I will be making a faux bustle that will go with it.

I don't need a hoop skirt and don't ever think I'll need one but the need to buy one is real. Also loved the cats not being shy of the camera.

Your videos have kicked me into making my first mostly handmade cosplay! Also, the discord server has been absolutely invaluable for both assistance and inspiration!

I just started getting into sewing and the amount of math in it honestly only makes me more interested. I love math because it's so useful and so I love any hobby that can require a lot of it.

I've done a lot of pre-made hoopskirt modifications in my time for normal hoopskirts by lowering the waistband #1 thing I do to most hoopskirts to front opening or shortened hoopskirts. I haven't needed a full petticoat yet the last one I made was my Rose Quarts that had 9 visible skirt layers... this is the way for the future. lol

It’s been a very long time since I’ve been on the cosplay side of KZbin as I don’t make them anymore but now I feel old when you were talking about old cosplay KZbin and Mango Sirene who I absolutely adored lol 😅 (not old btw, am 24 lol just got into cosplay pretty young) But also I’ve really wanted to get back into it now that I’m an adult with adult money and adore your channel ❤

Is it bad that I learn more about fashion and sewing from you than from the actual fashion school I'm going to? Maybe it's because you make all these beautiful displays that keep me interested haha. I can't wait to see the corset video!!!!

Instaclick on a new video yessss! I'm a serial cosplanner - I love me a planning session and breaking everything down, and it's so cool to see what process other people use, so this was super interesting :D also YES for Lady Rebecca! Love seeing other creators plugged here too. I adore that your patron list is now so expansive compared to previous videos. Loving watching you succeed

I Wish Rebecca had also mentioned that LOCATION really mattered in historical fashion. 1880s Deep American south was vastly different from 1880s London. So when you're doing research make sure if it is in a time when the USA was more than just a fist of colonies to double check the versions. (French vs English can be an issue too but like no one cares as much about that in cosplay and that is fine.) It only matters when you're doing some research to know how to actually make the garments. We aren't going around and yelling at artists for inaccuracies obviously.
