I always cold email and never cold call. I guess then that's what I should do. It's just that I'm merely trying to offer writing blog articles for them which makes the asking questions phase a lot shorter.

I definitely recommend cold emailing. When someone responds that they're interested, I set up a call with them. It's a great chance to learn all about their business and their goals. After the call, I email them a proposal. That way I have time to put my thoughts together, and they also have time to think before responding.

Here's the thing about Proposals. How many times have you done a "Discovery Call", said you're gonna send a proposal, and then they don't get back to you? For me, it's been every time. In my experience, I never send a proposal until I've already closed them. This is more of a Terms of Engagement Rather than a proposal. Like a recap of what was agreed upon in the call. Most importantly, on the call, they have already paid in full or put a deposit down.

It’s important to choose an onboarding process that works for you. I try to get as much information as possible from my discovery call to be able to start a test project, but it’s also an opportunity to learn about your client’s goals and needs. Having to come up with a strategy on a call can put a lot of extra pressure on newer copywriters. If a client is ghosting you after sending the proposal, it could mean there’s a disconnect or the proposal isn’t as simple and straightforward as it can be.

O.K., as always I come away with a few notes written down. Today I filled two sheets of paper with notes. Amazing ideas. I want to be part of your class but I cannot afford it just yet.

If this is our first project together and I've included 3 packages in the proposal, can i also include a retainer? For example, I'm a copywriter for their email marketing, it's a continuous task so even if this is our first project together is it really okay to include a retainer?
@SarahTurnerAgency Жыл бұрын
You can absolutely include a retainer. I recommend starting with a test project. That way you can get a feel of what it's like to work together before committing to a longer-term project. Once you've both decided to move forward together, a retainer is a great idea for ongoing projects like emails. Remember, this is your business. So you get to decide what works best for you. :)

What if you don't have their number to put a call across
@SarahTurnerAgency2 жыл бұрын
Potential clients will usually schedule a call with you using your calendar in your cold email or on your website. They’ll either leave their phone number for you to call them on or you’ll meet virtually using Zoom.

I've always been confused with proposals because I've seen people make presentations, templates, and also emails like you mentioned. You're not a fan of templates?
@SarahTurnerAgency3 жыл бұрын
Everyone has to find what works for them. Starting with a template is ok, but you really have to personalize it with recommendations based on your conversation with them. You got this!
