I'm a 30 year old black U.S Army vet and big fan of the SAS. Probably not the major demographic most people think of when they think of who the show is for. But I was screaming from the roof tops to get a S2 because this was my show of the year. I'd like to think that back in WW2 I would have loved to have been with them. Much respect to the UK from Tennessee.

He joined the 2nd SAS, that was formed in 1943, in 1941? Also he joined the army at age 14? So either he was 16 when he joined the SAS, which is impossible, or he joined during the interwar period, when it would've been much harder for a young boy below the minimum age to join the army. There's also no record of a Billy Lavill when googling, or anything about an SAS member who would've escaped prison 3 times. Not saying you're lying, but your story has holes in it, and I'm just generally skeptical about stories like this in a youtube comment. If I'm incorrect, fair play to your grandfather

We have photos showing his long range desert group truck in 1941 after it was hit by a Stuka, my mother tells me he was commando then SAS but initialy a gunner with the royal artilary. He akso joined again in 1949 as TA, we have a newspaper clipping where he and two other SAS were blocked in a French courtyard by 30 Germans and an armoured car, much of his war record is still locked till 2036. so yes whilst his records show 2nd SAS he did apparently serve under David Stirling then Bill Stirling then Roy Farran. As a Zimbabwean of British stock, I am hyped for this. Brilliant cast and series! Can't wait! Some of the men directly featured in this series and in real life were Rhodesians from my country. Lion-hearted men such as Mike Sadler immigrated to Southern Rhodesia ( today Zimbabwe ). These men formed the Rhodesian SAS to fight in the Malayan Emergency. Later, during the Rhodesian Bush War, the Rhodesian SAS became legends. World-Renown for their expertise and lion-hearted courage. It is all thanks to the courage and lionheartedness of David Stirling, Paddy Mayne and Jock Lewes. Grateful to all the men of the SAS. 💯💯👏🏻👏🏻

I had a friend, Dave Collins who served in C Sqn Rhodesian SAS. He took a 7.62mm AK-47 round to the back of his head, via his ear and survived. His story of survival is one for the ages. He later became a reservist in 4 Para back in the early 80's and being compassionate souls in the Parachute Regiment, we gave him the nickname "Bullet Brain". Sadly he passed away in a care home a few years ago, but I remember him fondly. Surprisingly, he was the sanest one amongst us, which being fair was a pretty low bar! RIP Dave.

Too bad Monty consistently held back the allies and should never have been making real decisions, unfortunately the British are whiny and constantly whinged to Eisenhower to let Monty contribute! @Apollo8902 ай бұрын
@@KyleV00 Market Garden? An operation that achieved two thirds of its objectives the biggest allied failure? I don't think so.
@KyleV002 ай бұрын
@ you don’t actually know what happened at Market Garden, do you? Yes it’s true the Americans and Polish captured their objectives, but the British failed to capture Arnhem, leading to the failure of Market Garden and the loss of thousands of British lives. Is there a new movement in the UK where you try to make your failures look like successes? Maybe the Brits just can’t handle the idea that Monty was an ineffective general and full control of the allied advance should’ve been in Pattons hands.
@Apollo8902 ай бұрын
@@KyleV00 exactly two thirds objectives achieved and non of the ground lost by the Germans was ever recaptured. And it was the British that captured those objectives as the Americans hung back in taking Nijmegen. It's hilarious that you call Monty a failure yet can only cite one operation that he did not even plan as proof. Patton came undone at Metz he was not America's best commander. Truscott and Patch were far better. It's a new British thing where creditable historians are accessing the facts and ignoring the smear campaign against British forces conducted by Hollywood and Joke historians like Stephen Ambrose. Unfortunately idiots like you still believe it.

Season 2 was just as incredible as s1. It’s like band of brothers (which of course is in a league of its own ) with a twist of comedy. Same class of war stories made for tv as masters of the air imho. All else aside, the series does an incredible job telling yet another ww2 story. Who knows how many others are out there. But this story is worth telling. The writers, the directors every actor involved in SAS RH is doing great job telling that story. Im a huge fan of the dry humor and our Irish leader. “Matthews 5:15” (it’s 7:15). If you don’t pick up on scenes like this, you may not get the show’s humor in general.

According to a guy named Richard Meakin on Quora (he's got an MA in History from Oxford), a shipment of 600 M1 Bazookas was sent to Egypt in September of 1942 for the use of the British Army. I don't know when exactly this season's episodes are supposed to take place, but it could be possible.
