Okay, three things I have to say. One, you push the cocking pin like a boss. It took me a while to get that with a very long screw driver. I’m working on a 300 W mag. Second, no one can over describe how tight Savage made that bolt. I used many towels, my body weight, and a framing hammer to pop it. I’m not proud of that but that’s what it took and I reached a point where it was either him or me. Third, thank you. I successfully installed my new fluted bolt housing because of this video.

First thing I noticed. Love the T-shirt. FYI: I was given a cheap pocket watch when I was a child, (I am 63 now.) I took it completely apart. Never did figure out how to put it back together. :-) Needles to say: "My Daddy was not very happy with me." Thank you for the video. I always look for the good videos before I take any gun down. Even if I think I know what I am doing. Never hurts to refresh. I will always remember that watch. Again, Thank you.

No joke on the first time being "ridiculously hard!", I have a Model 10 FCP HS Precision in .308, and it took putting the bolt on the ground, and using an 8lb sledge pushing on the allen key to crack it loose. Worked, no damage done, but damn, took some serious torque to crack it loose!...Great video!

Great vid and thx. Just applied this to my Model 12 FCV. Model 12 is slightly different when it comes to the cocking pin and springs within but no hidden dramas. That super tight rear bolt had shied me away once before but not after seeing this (seems to be zero literature or vids for the model 12)

Finally got the thing to break. I needed to get the firing pin out so I can adjust my sizing die. You take a fired case and make tiny adjustments to the die until you can just close the bolt on the case with no tension on the bolt. The pin has to be out or the Springs will give false readings.

How often do you recommend cleaning it to this extent? I only use my rifle the range once or week or less at usually 100 rounds per session.
@TexanUSMC80896 жыл бұрын
Maybe once a year for normal people. If you shoot 500 rounds a week, you might do it monthly.

@jeramyh93443 жыл бұрын
It says in the manual "Do Not Disassemble The Bolt" so I would assume Savage put red loc-tite on it before they torqued it. Red loc-tite fails at 360 degrees. But I would contact Savage customer service about it before you take it off.

@alexslaydon24267 жыл бұрын
J bones I had the same exact issue. You may have already figured it out, but all you have to do unscrew the bolt and flip the bolt handle to where it is pointing the other way. Make sure the cocking pin is pulled back into the firing position, or else the bolt wont fit into the receiver. Forgive my terminology if I used an incorrect word, but hopefully you get what I'm attemping to say lol good luck!
