Good Vid. nice 3 shot groups. Love my savage 11 trophy predator hunter 6.5 creedmoor I am getting 1/4 moa out of my hand loads. I did replace the stock with a Choate Tactical Savage Short Action Model with full length aluminum bedding block, PT&G bottom metal with 10 round magpul mags and Weaver FFP tactical 30mm 3-20x50 mil dot MOA/MOA with scope level and Silencerco Harvester .Thanks JCLU2

I traded another rifle that was given to me for a Ruger predator($0.00), 20 moa rail $40, athlon Argos btr (used $250), precision 30mm rings $70, cheap bipod $40, and cheap muzzle break $50. Groups at .34-.56 at 100 yards(handloads) and is repeatable at 1000yards, all for under $500.

How do they handle? How do they compare in weight? Does their weight make a difference in how they shoot? Which action is faster and more smooth? What about round pickup from the magazine? Which one would you rather carry in the field or shoot from the bench? So many more questions left unanswered. Almost, every gun manufacturer makes a 1 moa rifle nowadays.

I think the stock on the Savage gives it a better advantage. a lot of people who buy the Ruger American line tend to get different stocks or try to stiffen it up. I have an Ruger Ranch in 300BLK, but my next rifle is going to get a Savage 10 FCP-SR

Either are great rifles, and yet for the money I still think the Ruger wins out. Shame how so many people only see the price point. More expensive must be better right. If all you can afford is the Ruger and some BSA optics, and factory ammo, go forth and have fun. Having fun with what you have is the most important factor here. If its not fun don't do it. Try them both next time with cold shot accuracy, thats a true test for a hunter. But 3 shots is more than enough for proof of concept on your dial in.
@michaelfleming96186 жыл бұрын
Beefalo Bart ur exactly right. To us hunters we dont need a 5 shot group to tell if ur under moa. How many chances are u gonna have to take more then 3 shots at the same deer or any wild game given ur caliber is designed to take down even the biggest wild game. Cold barrel accuracy is what counts for those who hunt and really dont need a sub moa rifle to hit the kill zone. U have 6 inches in all directions to have a successful hunt. So unless ur a bench shooter who needs competition sub moa then go for the 5 shot group. Both are good guns an have great accuracy.

J.s I own both savage and ruger . My savage axis2 25-06 will stack 5 rounds at 200 yards . My ruger predator 6.5 will also stack 5 rds at 200 yrds. Both like there certain ammunition or nither hold a good group. I will agree the savage has a much smoother bolt thought . Triggers are comparable with the ruger being a tad heavier..that can be fixed for 0$ though.

Try it on sandbags. Its a light gun designed for carry and walking. The Ruger with a bipod has some issues with the barrel and stock movement. its just not a good bipod gun. But, an excellent gun for walking (lightweight) and shooting upright (accuracy).

This is my barrel brake in. All pros do it, so I do it. It is not rocket science. You can look it up right here on youtube.

3 shots is not a "group", 5 shots is the minimum. Over 1MOA at 100 yards for a 6.5 is awful, even for a factory rifle. Try changing up the ammo, those rifles should shoot better.

Learn sampling theory. 3 shots is not enough to determine the accuracy of a rifle to any significant degree. 5 shot groups are 4x more likely to portray the true accuracy of a rifle than 3-shot groups.

If you take the time to work up a good load for these, either one should be able to shoot 1/2 inch groups without any trouble. You could get lucky and find a good match off the shelf too, but you will need to try a few different weights from each manufacturer to find out if one works. I know for a fact the savage can shoot consistently at 1000 yards.

Im not sure about the Ruger Americans. They got a few issues i dont care for. Rifle doesnt look bad for the money. Id rather spend a little more money and get the gun i want and be happier in the end. Id go with a savage non Axis model, vanguard/howa, or a tikka. If the ruger had a better stock id probably buy one. If i were spending over a $1000 or more id go with a browning x-bolt or Win mod 70. Hard to beat the savages for the money and accuracy out of the box.

I traded my buddy a 30 pack of budlight for his used Vortex precision match rings. I snuck in just under $1k and have been very pleased with the accuracy. 3-5 shot groups bounce right around .5-1 moa with the 120 amax match hornady.

Hornady's 143 gr ELD-X is great on deer. Also has a BC of .620 with a SD of .293 Barnes makes their long range LRX bullet in 6.5 and is 127 grains. Both of these are top of the line for hunting with 6.5. I would have no reservation using either of these bullets on elk out to 350 yards in the 6.5 Creed.

I second the 125 Winchester. dropped a 12 point in his tracks at 220 yards. clean pass threw, saw the impact of the shot and blood fly from the exit before the animal dropped. I've always used 180gr 3006 for hunting and the 125 did a better job.

Why do people continue to do "accuracy tests" with off the shelf rifles and factory ammo. If you want to see how well a rifle will perform, first you break it in. After 200-300 rounds, its good and broke in. Then you develop hand loads to find the rifles "node". With factory ammo you don't know how far you are jumping the bullet, which is critical in developing accuracy. Ruger and Savage factory barrels are hit and miss. Rugers are CHF, the chambers are forged into the barrels too. Savage are button rifled. Both look like coal mines through a bore-scope. They drag cooper horribly too. Spend the extra money and buy a Remington 700 with 5R riflings. Or get a nice aftermarket barrel, preferrably with cut riflings like an Obermeyer, Bartlein or Kreiger. KZbin is inundated with these "accuracy tests". For the love of God people stop it.
@BeefaloBart6 жыл бұрын
Maybe some people don't give a shit about making hand loads, or changing barrels on a new rifle. Maybe there are many people who want to buy a rifle, buy ammo and go shooting and see whats the best value. Maybe people are tired of Remington. Maybe for some people $400 for a rifle is a large amount of money. You can have your opinion all day long, and you may even be right, but maybe just maybe your wrong to tell someone not to make a video about what they want to make it about.
@workingr6 жыл бұрын
Read what I said again There are a plethora of videos exactly like the one he made. Too many people cluttering up youtube with stuff thats already on there over and over and over. If you're going to make a video about something, it helps to at least be somewhat knowledgeable on the subject. I never said not to make a video about anything. And it's "you're" not "your" in that instance. smh

Robert W hmm idk I find it useful. I just bought a RAP 6.5, and what I like is seeing optics people are using with the variety of videos that are out there. Also what ring height they use, how they stiffen the barrel, what barrel brakes they use are a few other examples. They definitely all aren’t the same exact videos and useful for those who don’t have a ton of money to throw at it, especially when it is just going to be used for hunting.

Shew ... this is not at all what I would construe as a good review. Between my brother and I, we have both manufacturers guns in 270, 308, 30-06, and 243 and they are both very accurate bang sticks out of the box. The Ruger can be adjusted down to 3 pounds on the trigger and is almost perfect .. almost. Stock needs some love on both to be really dime size shooters at 100 yards. After shooting a great deal of factory ammo and hand loads out of each I can tell you that NO factory ammo will be as consistent as worked up hand loads in these rifles, AND to properly season these barrels you need to put 20 to 30 rounds down each to reach copper equilibrium. You will see your groups tighten up the more rounds you send through them. Once that happens .. run a cleaning patch/rod down both and watch them both spread the groups out to what you saw brand new / clean. I would also let my "Buddy" get on camera and shoot his gun beside my gun to truly show consistency. One last thing ... 3 shots or 5 shots or 10 shot groups ... just shoot them the same number of rounds on the same day, same weather, wind, same ammo. BUT what you will find is that different barrels / actions like different bullets as their head spacing or distance from the lands to the bullet will be different along with the rate of twist and rifling in each barrel, and that makes a HUGE difference in accuracy. Study up a little more and get some range time in on each before making another video on these and we will all applaud you for it.
