Bought a "used" 2020 in October of 2020. Was shopping for 2018, coming from a Porsche 718, but ended finding the 2020 for almost the same price as a 2018. Here in Canada, you don't have option choices.... you take either base or fully loaded. Most on the market are fully loaded. I have to say that I appreciate the dual personality... great cruiser when you need it to be, good toy when you want to monkey around a bit. Not as fun as my 718 (manual), but enough to satisfy. Don't care much about the lack of space or storage... I knew what I was getting in when bought. My only complaint so far is the sport seating. And my fault for being a large-ass boy. Cushion bolster too narrow and makes it uncomfortable for large ass boys for long rides. But again, this was known to start with. Still hoping to loose weight for the next season !!!

I'm a bit "heavy" myself and have had several cars with sporty seats that hurt in the second hour. Yours, in my opinion, is the right attitude to have. Long ago I watched your first LC500 video, and as a result I have long eyed these cars. They seem attainable to normal middle-class people, especially given Lexus reliability and the availability of used examples. My mother is near retirement and wants to go out with a bang--some kind of V8 two door vehicle. A new Mustang GT is the likely possibility. But she loves how these cars look, and hey I'd rather have a 5 year old LC500 than a brand-new Mustang GT. They'll have to get under $50k used for that pipe dream to happen, and realistic concerns like that caught my ear when you talked about increasing insurance rates. I had no idea these cars have fancypants trunk lids and doors. Hopefully they cheapen up used. And hopefully them cheapening up used doesn't result in people crashing them and pushing those insurance rates further up.

I hesitated to watch this video because I went with another car. I looked at the LC, Cayman GTS 4.0, and a base 992. I already have two other toy cars so this purchase needed to be something with daily drive practicality and way above average driving experience. Found it difficult to drive one, it was easier to drive 992's than the LC. Some of that is how the local Lexus dealers view the "exclusivity" of their cars where driving a 100K car for them is a big deal. My local Porsche dealer regularly handed me keys to 150k Carrera S's...100k is low/average for those guys. I ultimately went with the base Carrera which should be arriving in a week or so. Bought a fully loaded 2019 LC500 Coupe used with about 12k miles on it. Red with black interior. The only other cars that made me smile every time I see it and drive it like the LC was my 2017 manual transmission Corvette GS and my 1986 BMW E30 323i... This is the crown jewel so far... I absolutely love the dual personality...
@StereoHound3 жыл бұрын
Bought a 2021 in Nightfall Mica performance pack all thanks to Mr. Goose. This video is spot on for real world ownership. Top 3 bests of the LC so far: 1. Best dual personality I've experienced. In Eco or Comfort mode, it cruises like a freaking luxury sedan with a hint of road noise still present. Switch to Sport+ mode, steering feel and suspension tightens, step on the gas pedal it turns into a roaring beast front to back with occasional crackles under load from the exhaust. It's incredible. 2. Best sound system by Mark Levinson: besides the heavenly exhaust sometimes music is still necessarily on a longer trip. The sound system in the LC is incredibly balanced, I'd consider it hi-fi on wheels or at least close to it. The highs are actually extensive and airy, bass is tight and impactful, you hear more details musically presented compare to the Bose in the Porsche, which is a bit bass heavy, Meridian in the Jaguar, no experience with Burmester, B&W or Naim in Bentley though. 3. Best original design. Mr.Goose has said enough about this. Originality and unique design are important over a certain price point. 2 nitpicks: 1. Any mode besides Sport+, ride is a bit too floaty, especially over wider bumps, so you get thrown in the air. Maybe 21 model is tuned to be even more soft. 2. Android Auto, because of the finnicky infotainment system, entering address on Android Auto navigation takes forever. Best use Apple Carplay, punch in the address on the phone and then connect to the car. Handling wise it's very precise and quick for its size, but not quite the same to a Porsche. For the money, the LC500 is probably the best car you can buy.
@riccileggio2 жыл бұрын
About your first nitpick, do you mean that 21 model year might be better in non-sport mode settings? Can you elaborate? Which model year suspension is better?
@StereoHound2 жыл бұрын
@@riccileggio According to Mark, earlier model years, 18,19 have very stiff suspension, where 20 and forward are tuned to be softer. I only have experience with the 21 model year, and I find the suspension to be a little too soft, you feel the chassis moves around when turning a corner. So I drive it almost exclusively in Sport+ mode but still wish there is less bounce over bumps. I'd think earlier model years with the stiffer suspension may have better body control, although the lack of comfort somewhat defeats its grand tourer nature.

100% one of the greatest feelings driving my infrared 2018 LC. Picked it up this May and it's still exciting every single day I step into it. I've owned a 2018 982 Cayman 718 GTS, a 2013 Scion FR-S and a 2016 991 911, and while the Porsches were especially driver focused cars, made to rip through turns with precision and speed, this car is the perfect mix of luxury, sound and breathtaking looks. It's more quiet and comfortable than anything I've owned before and sounds better than all of my previous cars. It truly is a masterpiece, not to mention, an absolute work of art. I highly recommend it for any car enthusiast🙏🏻

I own a 97 SC300 and bought it as my "teenage dream car" because: Supra for not-Supra money. Owning the SC has made me realize that what I wanted from it and what I got, and what I now love even more is completely different. Something like the LC is definitely in my sights now instead of the A90, but I also desire "cheap fun", as my SC was by no stretch of the imagination a bargain for what was essentially a brand new car (50k miles) in 2018. I think if Lexus could make a hybridized (for the purpose of power & comfort, not fuel efficiency) luxury version of the GR86, that would be pretty dope, and I would lower my savings goal exponentially for when I eventually have to part ways with my SC and any other vehicle I have from now and until then. As for anyone who wants to drop the benjamins on an LC, YOU'RE THE MAN. What a guide. I haven't seen ANYONE on KZbin have such a professional and honest owner's opinion on any car.

I have an older, mundane Lexus sedan, and when it was in for routine service recently, the dealership had a low mileage '18 LC 500 on the lot for $79K. I sat in the car and they let me start it (I declined a test drive), which was damn near enough to make me say "I'll take it"...not that I could realistically afford it. As much as I covet this car for all the reasons Mark did when he decided to lease one, I appreciate how he offsets his enthusiasm for the LC 500 by talking about the negatives of the ownership/leasing experience. As captivating and unique as this car is, it would have been a huge mistake for me to stretch financially for what is ultimately an impractical car that wouldn't be a good daily. Another great, honest, real-world useful video from savagegeese. Here's hoping Lexus closes out the model run with a special edition track-ready variant that has adequate cooling and no annoying gauge pop-up warnings so Mark can get the LC 500 of his dreams.

Not here to dump on the LC500; to me it is the best looking Lexus of the past 20 years and an instant classic. My heart was broken when I learned they will never be producing an "F" version as that is the one I was waiting for. I've looked them over closely for two years now and------I bought a Jaguar XKR-S. As a high-performance trim, the XK-R/XK-RS have the 'edge' the "F" version of the LC500 would have had (and what you'll have to add yourself with aftermarket parts). The regular LC 500 is simply too tame, too soft, too "Dentists Wife" in its current form. I don't want to spend time and money "hardening" it (maybe some do and that's cool); I want it already hard. The XK has been around over a decade now and everyone realizes its Ford-derived V8 and ZF trans combo is bulletproof---XK's easily run 150K miles or more. That was the only risk; Toyota vs. Jaguar reliability and it has been eliminated. That was the LC500s only advantage and its gone. Jag and Toyota both did years in Formula One; their expertise in dynamics is at or near the top. For me, the XK-RS was everything the LC500 was (and more) for $20K less. If Lexus builds an LC F, I'll be first in line.

@savagegeese I’m surprised one of your gripes is the insurance. Here in Vegas I sent a bunch of VINs to allstate in 2019 and the LC500 brand new would be the same price to insure as my Infiniti Q50 (lease) and $150/mo less than a Lexus LS500 and Porsche 911 (yea that’s right, a Lexus LS500 costs just as much to insure as a 991.2 Turbo S sportscar!!)

Dude....DUDE!! I won't say I (we) leased an LC500 (Western Canada) because of your videos on this car, but they were certainly a major - major - contributing factor so far as what got us interested in this car. We also leased a silver one - pre Covid by a short time, as we wanted it for spring of that year, and it had been sitting quite a while at a dealer so we also got a little bit of a discount/deal. I owned an LS400 way back when they were still a model on the dealer floor, circa 1996, but no Lexus since. I think of all the cars I've owned, this is my favorite, or at least top 3 (owned 53 cars in my life so far, and get a new one every year when possible). I spit up my drink when you said you were turning yours in to purchase one, as my missus and I came to the identical conclusion, albeit for slightly different reasons (we haven't driven this one hard really, ie no track, just a lot of highway KMs (sorry, miles).)) We tested out SO many other makes and models trying to find something similar-ish, for a new, and most importantly a better experience. It doesn't exist, not IMO, at least in this segment - and wider. Drove several BMW, MB, Jaguar, etc etc cars, and none did what the LC does in terms of a perfect balance. So, again, when this lease is up just before spring this year, we'll purchase a new one from our dealer (if there is any), and for something "new" for the year, probably also get a GR86 next door. I learned quite a bit from this specific video in terms of the changes between model years. This channel hands down has the best detailed information on cars on the internet.

Great review Mark, I enjoyed driving the LC500 at COTA during the Lexus Experience earlier this year. I felt like I could safely drive it as hard as I wanted to and had a blast. Of course on the track you couldn’t get away from how heavy this car is especially on corner turn in. If you were too fast the understeer was quite noticeable. But oh that V8 exhaust and torque was addictive. I do agree that it could be used as a DD but not practical due to cargo space. Keep the content coming!
