Kim Simmons, wailing, raw and raunchy, on his white Flying V. In tune or out, no matter!! Saw him with Chris Youlden back in the day, performing at NY's Fillmore East. "Train to Nowhere", playing it out loud, with his Marshall Major, 200 English watts!! Savoy Brown Blues Band. Now that was somethin'!

!!!! A number of old bands that should hang it up and not tour anymore. Savoy Brown ain't one of 'em. I remember listening to my older brothers albums in the early 70's and always thought this boogie was SO cool. Yea, it still is! Great post!

I saw this a few months ago and was standing, oh, about 20 feet from the stage (small club). When Kim said he had to "boogie for Lonesome Dave," he pointed out that Lonesome Dave's grandson was in the audience -- standing right next to me, actually.

I saw Kim at an All Star Blues band show at the Bergen Performing Arts Center in NJ, a lovely venue....Johnnie Winter, Rick Derringer, Leslie West, Edgar Winter...Kim clearly outshined them all, surprisingly, I gave Rick the #2 slot, I never gave him enough credit until I saw him life Kim did "Poor Girl" from the "Lookin In" album.. A great place to start if you are new to the band.

Back in the day 1969 going to the Big Apple and had the radio on. Tuned to WNEW -102.7 the home of rock in roll and the night bird was on Allison Steele. 102.7 where rock lives and the Allison played Savoy Brown for a half an hour. That half hour was the best I wasn't thinking of the traffic at night that much and it seemed like no time I was over the Washington bridge wanting more Savoy Brown.
@NYCgirl9277 жыл бұрын
WNEW was a great station back then & still is. I remember the album format as a new thing & loved it. That was a great time to be living in NYC. You could see 4-5 bands at the Fillmore East for 3-4 bucks.
@jerrybadhandicappingforthe48067 жыл бұрын
NYC girl Not the same without the King biscuit flower hour. Dave Herman ,the night bird Allison Steele. Vinny Scelsa,,Dennis Elsias, Scot Muni and Caro lMiller were the dj's on the home of were rock lives was the best of all the rest. These are my favorites. Wnew 102.7 home of rock in roll. Do not forget Pete Fornatale.

I remember it well. Some of those shows are replayed on Sirius radio Classic replay....Those were the best times.

@NYCgirl9277 жыл бұрын
I sure do remember Crazy Eddie ads. The Armed forces ads not really. I went to the 25th anniversary of WNEW rock format at the Beacon theater some time in the 90s & all the DJs were there.
