So glad I found your channel! I just started learning how to surf this last summer and your videos are so relatable! I like that you have a real job so I can see how “normal ppl” can work and still surf!

Looks like you are doing great! I am still on a foam board after a year and half of surfing (mostly because one of my fears is my board hitting me or others, so kudos to you for shortboarding!) I haven't had to juggle a 9-5 while I been surfing but I am a stay at home mom and it's definitely just as tricky at times! My Hubby works and he has found that early morning sessions before work help him surf more during the work week than he normally would. He usually gets to the beach at first light. Sometimes it's helpful to remember that it just a season of life (literally and figuratively). Brighter days are coming soon! Keep it up sister! Your doing great!

Great point on the intro, on wondering how people fit in surfing with a 9-5. I think it would be hard to get in a daily surf when it gets dark by 5 in the winter, yet most people don't get off work until 4-5 pm :(

right?! very true... I feel like winter surfing is definitely a different story and is much harder!

The OMBE surf dude says its best to arch your back to get into the wave, the weight towards the rear of the board is what helps the wave push the board..he says its like squashing an oreo cookie..he also says putting your head down is sorta like a last ditched attempt. .just dig deep and kick....keep working on them popups young un..XD

If you want to progress faster, get a board that catches more waves. Wave count equals practice, if you are consistently missing waves like the couple of times you showed here then those are waves you’re not getting pop up practice on, riding time, etc. Get a board for when its weaker. Try a mini-simmons or a fish or a smaller midlength if you still want to practice a more “shortboard” style of surfing when its smaller. If you have the right board for the conditions, you’ll catch more waves and progress way faster. Also if you get ear issues, get “surf ears” ear plugs. Ear plugs that have a mesh that allows sound through and a neckband so the arent lost if they come out.

thanks for the advice. I previously was catching a good amount of waves on this one in hawaii. the past 2 weeks this board just started clicking for me again. Definitely would love a mid length but don't have it in my budget rn ;)
