This is a classic. The studio recording does not have violins. Also this is the epic/power metal side of Saxon. On the early days (nwobhm) they were speed metal, ergo the inspiration for metallica (Check out Motorcycle Man ) . Great reaction!

Sometimes they’ll release orchestral versions as bonus tracks

I saw them in '88 or '89 and I don't recall that there were violin solos.

Saxon-Crusader.The very first song I learned to play on bass. A special one.However,you have to be aware of one thing,Saxon is NOT a symphonic metal band. This is just that kind of a live peformance with orchestra and stuff,but Saxon were never like that. They have always been a classic heavy metal kick-ass band. Two guitars,bass,drums and the legendary Bill Byford on vocals.

Great banda, one of My favs as a teenager in early 80s. But if You please, hear original versión without orchestral parts. And then hear (original tracks, please!) Next songs: Strangers in The night Dallas 1.pm The eagle has landed The power and The Glory The strong arm of The law... That is real Saxon sound. Then You can try to their last release from a few years ago. Greetings from Medellin Colombia ❤️

Saxon were a part of the new wave of British heavy metal that spawned at the end of the 70's and gained the weight of their popularity over the early years with a handful of albums which are considered significant examples of the metal movement from that era. They spawned essentially from Barnsley (a town just north of my home city of Sheffield).
@MikePhillips-pl6ov Жыл бұрын
@Gavrev they did a lot of spawning then. Lol

I’m from the U.K. and have been a fan of Saxon since the late seventies. They may be of the same genre, but for the songs themselves, how they are put together, and Biff’s amazing vocal power and range, I have always put them on a level above Iron Maiden.

You gotta check out, princess of the night, power and the glory , denim and leather, motorcycle man. And many more classics from Saxon. I've been a Saxon fan since 1983 and must say that this version is good but not very representative. If this had been my first listen to Saxon it would not get me hooked.

This can't be compared to their in your face working class approach back in the day, but it's still awesome. However, on their debut Metallica had been basically a NWoBHM cover band. Savage, Diamond Head, Blitzkrieg and Holocaust are bands you should look up definitely. Mustaine also often stated Angel Witch as his major influence and if you get the first album with the early EPs as bonus, you have a pure hit compilation. They've been the better Iron Maiden back then, but didn't have the impact on EMI, so they didn't score as much and sadly couldn't keep up in songwriting later.

A Crusader was a warrior who took part in the Christian Crusades to take back Jerusalem from the Muslims back in the 10th century. Hence that is what the song is about. The Saracens were the Muslims.
