@two_coats_and_two_root_beers5 жыл бұрын
Okay I have a serious theological problem with this film (normally other PureFlix films are laughable and I don't really make a statement) And I like that Kevin addressed that it was a weird Christian movie. This defines Christianity as a group of nice, happy American people and not a Theology or Ideology. Not only is this movie bad from a filming prospective, it's bad from a Theological Christian perspective because it's implying God will take someone's faith and the Holy Spirit away if you ask Him to. This film also implies that simply being a nice person is what makes you a Christian instead of Christ and His Word--and that it somehow means that all non-Christians are mean people. And it also implies that simply saying "it's about Jesus" fixes everything out of nowhere--Anna's decision to change the Christmas Pageant last minute was abrupt and surfacey rather than impactful. It's all just a disaster of a thought experiment that places more emphasis on people talking about vague notions of Christianity instead of exploring the actual substance of it--like it didn't talk about Jesus in a definitive way--just "He's the reason for the season!" So this movie was blatant and vague at the same time. The story is disjointed and not relatable. Anna didn't have so much of a change of heart as just responding to her parents behavior when they "turned atheist" by wanting them to be Christian "not jerks" again and felt guilty just because of their behavior. Sorry for ranting lol And y'know, the whole Christmas ball thing would've been fine since some Churches do services on Christmas day, so the parents just could've made a compromise with her in the beginning of the film. Problem solved.

You know, when the girl called out the street Santa for stealing, I was kinda like, yeah okay that's pretty scummy. But then his response, it made me stop and think. Cause, yeah, a lot of Santas _are_ homeless people who are given seasonal work. And while obviously it's not a _good_ thing to steal, much less steal from charity... I can kinda see where the guy is coming from, and how I could even feel like it was okay. I mean, if you're homeless, you've got this temp job that you'll be doing for a month at most, it probably doesn't pay well (if it did they wouldn't need to hire the very impoverished) and, it's not like you're stealing the entire thing, just a few bucks. When the previous night some rich guy dropped a Ben Franklin in there? Yeah. I can see someone making the decision to take a bit for themselves. Especially if the charity is for a different cause. I mean, let's say it's some food fund for people in Africa somewhere. They need the food, but you need to eat too and how horrible must it feel to be doing work, probably badly paid, for a charity fund that won't even benefit you? People being willing to give money to those far away in a different nation, on a different continent, but not even thinking to offer aid to you standing right in front of them? It's not the case in this film, I'm expanding on the idea of "homeless person stealing from a charity bucket" as a moral question. But again, I could really see how someone would feel justified in that act. I can't say I definitely wouldn't do the same thing in that situation. Well, that's me putting way more thought into that small interaction than anyone involved in this movie did! :D

Just because I am obsessive about such things, here are the actors with their dates of birth. I assume filming was in early to middle of 2016, but don't know for sure. Release was in November 2016, but I imagine these no-budget family flicks have a quick turnaround. Anna: Anna Fricks, 09/11/1995 (20 years old) Anna's Dad: Joey Lawrence, 04/20/1976 (40) Anna's Mom: Leigh-Allyn Baker, 03/13/1972 (44) Boyfriend: Ryan Boudreau: 05/12/1990 (26) Boyfriend's Dad: Sean T. Smith, dob not found So, it turns out that while Anna is too old for high school, her parents are not too young to be her parents. If we accept that Anna is three years younger than her actor, and the dad a couple years older than his actor, both parents could have graduated law school before she was born.
