A walk up to Scafell, England's second highest mountain at 3162ft (964m)
The walk starts from the parking area opposite Wha House Farm in Eskdale and is known as The Terrace route. The walk first heads up to the Wainwright summit of Slight Side at 2499 ft (762m) then continuing on to Long Green before reaching the summit of Scafell. There is a steep climb up to Slight Side and a further two steep climbs up to the summit of Scafell. The route back involves a steep 300m descent down loose scree from the summit of Scafell towards Burnmoor Tarn. From Burnmoor Tarn we then head to Eel Tarn over some very boggy ground back to Eskdale.
Distance is around 9 miles.

Hi, thanks. It is a really good walk with cracking views. A lot quieter than it's neighbour, Scafell Pike. It was a bit steep heading down from the summit of Scafell, but not too bad. Thanks for watching & commenting, it is appreciated. Take care. Cheers. Eddie.

Thanks Eddie and Carol. This inspired me to go up from Wha Farmhouse 4 days ago. Mist/cloud all the way and I "think" I reached the summit. Stood at a cairn and altimeter had me at 954m. It didn't look like I could go any higher so I'll settle for that! Returned by the same route (Long Green and Slight Side) as visibility wasn't good and was a much easier option than testing my map/compass skills. It was beautifully peaceful though and without a breath of wind so was quite special even without the views.

Hi John. Sounds like you had a great day even without the views. You made the right choice returning by the same route as it is a steep descent we took in this video from the summit of Scafell. so I think it would have been a bit tricky in poor visibility. Scafell is a lot quieter than its busy neighbour, Scafell Pike, so a much better walk to get away from it all. Pleased the video was some inspiration, really appreciate the feedback. Always good to hear other peoples experiences on the fells. Take care. Cheers. Eddie.

Great vid and very informative. There are very few walks on KZbin for Scafell from Eskdale so many thanks for taking the time to share. I expect the thing that puts most people off Eskdale is its isolation and the length of time it takes most to drive there. Good job to you and your good lady.

Fantastic video, Eddie. Thanks for sharing your experience. We did this exact same walk on Sunday, with very similar weather conditions, just slightly hazy, but not enough to spoil the views. It is a fabulous route, and so quiet - we only saw 12 people all day. Got a puncture on the Wrynose Pass on the way home which was “interesting”!! Anyway, it’s soooo good to be back on the fells again. Stay safe and happy walking. All the best, Yvette and Mark

@@eddiecaisley5746 thanks for your reply. We managed to change the tyre and made it home back to Heysham, no problem. Slightly stressful at the time, but din’t spoil the day, thank you. Hopefully out again tomorrow - Dow Crag, Brim Fell and Coniston Old Man with any luck. All good stuff. Really enjoying all your videos. The one for Great Carr’s, Swirl How and Great Friar really inspired us and we did that last year (when lockdown eased) for Mark’s 50th birthday - Grey Friar is Wainwright’s 50th highest summit, so his 50th on Mark’s 50th seemed a nice way to celebrate. Do keep the camera rolling - your time, effort and information are all really appreciated! All the best to you both. Y & M
