Joined Gumtree today (been using eBay for years), within minutes had a supposed sale of my item. What followed is completely covered in your excellent video. Moved to close sale quickly, all thro WhatsApp. Asked no questions. "Paid" full price, no ono. Didn't respond to extra info I offered. Sent me explanation on how sales on Gumtree worked...via a Courier System & a link. The supposed payment link was, fortunately, intercepted by my phone (Norton) antivirus. No further onfo or comms from scammer. I feel a bit naieve...but have learnt...I hope. Your video: 1st Class. Many thanks.

every scammer I have encountered , they always try to hurry you up. They want to do it really quick. for example transactions in games like trading , they say things like Come on quickly i need to go soon or whatever like that. Thats the number 1 sign for me

Paypal doesnt cover motorvehicles boat etc.scammers use a paypal letter written to you promising an insurance of 20000$ . When i rang paypal they said theyll only contact you in letter by writing your full name registered on your a/c

I had a buyer who wanted to use DPD to do a Cash-on-Delivery. The item was only £20 and the distance about 120 miles. That puzzled me so I rang DPD to check and they said " No, we don't do COD!" I don't like complications; just keep it simple. Great video👍

Thanks, I just saw this in time and only by accident. Soon after I posted my ad I had someone contacting me but with a lot of your red flags: immediately wanting to speak via email, trying for a quick transaction, sad due for a heart transplant story plus some extra to gain sympathy points e.g. the item they were 'buying' being a gift... arranging a courier, a request for PayPal... I have never experienced this and I am so happy I saw this by accident. Thank you again!!!

eBay is far safer indeed and they almost always side with the buyer. Sellers are very protective over their positive feedback as well which keeps them accountable. I have, however, safely purchased and sold items on Gumtree. The safest way for the uninitiated is meeting the interested party in a public place and using cash. Not as convenient as eBay but you could save a little but of money

Wish I'd have known about this fake PP email before I got scammed. I sent my Android tablet off 11 days ago but I spooked the scammer Into not signing for it. So it's currently sat at his local sorting office but I cannot get an answer from the sorting office despite ringing everyday 30+ times per attempt. These scammers are they really using their real address to receive these items in the post?

quick question regarding gumtree service, i'm waiting for my ebay to be cancelled because of their relisting fee service which I didn't know, i know that ebay takes a % per item you sale but the listing and relisting service fee I didn't know of and it built up an oustanding bill on my end. Does gumtree have this same service fee when you list an item or delist or relist it. And so does gumtree take a % out of you when you make a sell. any information or even a video of this if you covered it would be nice to review. cheers

Gumtree doesn't have any fees if you have a standard listing. But their are paid for addons like eBay has promoted listings. So you can pay for your listing to show up at the top of search etc. You'll see these (optional) upsells from Gumtree when you list your item.

Best to make sure you test it before handing any money over. Seller can claim you broke it after you took it

Hi, i am selling a phone on gumtree, and the buyer wants to pay via bank transfer and needs me to send the phone to them. But i have been told that they can always claim that their card was stolen and have the bank take the money back. Is that possible? Please help!

A card transaction is different to a bank transfer. The only thing you need to make sure is that the money is definitely in your account and isn’t “pending” . Once their transfer is done you can check your banking app and your balance should reflect that the money is in there. Never ever follow a link to enter bank details. Also no one legitimate will ever ask for your bank details. Are you the buyer or the seller on this occasion if you don't mind me asking?

These scammers are using bots to open the conversation with the default questions on the platform such as "Is this available?". The bots are programmed to DM you on specific criteria and categories.

@@animekmr9787 realised it was a scam, threatened the scammer that I would contact legal authorities, called my banks to ensure my account was locked and called the post office to stop any packages that were on their way to them

I have had a scammer try to get me to buy a gift card for a courier company to come collect the item i was selling , and that the courier service will come to collect the item and pay me the cash that she owed me for the item. The company she used was Yodel. Dont fall for it it is so dumb. (did not get scammed btw)

I think someone is trying to scam me. Give me an email for their 'Mother' and the reply seems to eager to buy and didn't really respond to what I put in the email. They also mention a pick up agent. It just has that scam like vibe about it. I wasn't even searching scams when this video came up but was suspecting. I think I will ignore it and block the email.
