Great information of the flatline it's always been a mystery to me in all my no fap journeys. Today I hit 120 days on no fap and I hit a bit of a flatline but I'll never give up and stay on the no fap path. Just remember everyone every day is a blessing never waste your time watching adult content not worth it.

This answered some of my ongoing doubts about the whole recovery process. I cannot count how many flatlines i’ve been through since starting my journey 5 years ago. I still have doubts that my brain maybe permanently damaged and lost its ability to recover from any kind of orgasm or even minor dopamine spikes without being in flatline for weeks. It has made dating life almost impossible and it’s hard not to feel hopeless sometimes.. I hope i can be free from seemingly never ending cycle. Thank you for the motivation to continue on the path.

I know it's tough....it can be VERY tough...but keep walking the path and keep staying away from porn. It can take a lot of time, but it WILL get better and better and better with time. And remember, progress is not linear. You can do this!

Toady is my day 14. Initially i felt lot of depression and urges. But then i started yoga and pranayam, specially naadi shodhan and kapal bhati. Now i dnt feel any withdrawal sympterms but feel amazing and energetic. All muscle pain and depression went away

Wow - fascinating! Really appreciate this longer video. Cheers Bob! 😎👍 I’ve been wondering about another topic, namely if withdrawals get worse with each relapse. I’m on my second streak (Day 123), and the post-acute withdrawal reaction of my nervous system seems much more prolonged this time. Really not sure if this is a general rule, or just circumstance. But definitely an interesting topic.

I have been thinking about making a video about withdrawals soon. Some people experience worse withdrawals with ongoing relapses, but I'm not sure it's the case for the majority of rebooting guys. These are difficult subjects and hard to study.

@ would be an awesome video! I have a (vague) theory why it’s the case for me. Before my first streak, I would watch 4-5 times a week. But just short sessions. My brain was used to those regular shots of a small amount of dopamine. Then, in the run-up to my relapse (after 90 days clean), I was fantasising, peeking, thinking about relapsing, etc for a period of 1.5 months. Once I actually really relapsed, it felt like a very intense experience for my brain. Much more intense than my regular 4-5 weekly sessions of the past. I guess also because I had many more dopamine receptors. I guess because of long buildup and anticipation, the very long preceding streak without PMO and because of upregulated dopamine receptors, the relapse felt so intense for my brain. In turn, the withdrawals that followed this intense relapse also feel more intense. The more intense the relapse feels, the more intensely the nervous system and brain respond afterwards if you quit again. Kind of like that whole A & B process again. Hope that makes sense.

Thank you. I think that for some guys there might be a mini version of that happening, but nowhere near the effects I talked about in the video. One could speculate on why the 'association response' would be milder with wet dreams, and perhaps the answer is, cause the arousal levels during an eja**ation are not as high during sleep (wet dream) as when we have them and are awake. And other parts of the brain are then also working differently. So that could be part of it, but for sure there are probably still lots of things going on in this whole rebooting world that we still haven't learned. The point is, "mini flatlines" seems to be occurring, and it seems to be a bit different from person to person on what activates them, or shall we say, what kind or - how much association - is needed for the brain to activate them. Also, people need to remember that, first of all, not everyone will experience the "big, real flatline", and second, even fewer people still, will experience the association activated 'mini flatline'...so that's something to keep in mind for people reading this. The last thing I would want with this video is for people in the NoFap community to become even more afraid of ej**ulations than what they already are, because there is definitely already an irrational fear towards that. Remember guys reading this, the flatline does not happen just from orgasm alone, unless the person doesn't have a history of porn addiction (and even then it's pretty rare). What I'm talking about in this video is a different matter; recovering porn addiction falling into a flatline after arousal or orgasm. But even that is no reason for you to develop a phobia of ejacul**ions. In fact, the body might even NEED a few of those instances to happen in order for the brain to "disassociate" orgasms with the old porn behavior - if you happen to be one of the guys that keeps falling back into the flatline, that is. But, for the rest of you reading this, also remember it depends on what goals you guys have with your journey as well...not everything is about flatline / libido etc.

Great! Also I always thought about: why not trying maca powder while one suffer a flatline ? It's known to be good for "sexual health" in Peru, and having tried it myself it skyrocket my libido. So I think that getting on it while on a too long flatline could help getting out of it.

I want to share my experience with a new supplement that I think can help speed up the nofap benefits and reduce some of the negative effects of relapse, I have unfortunately relapsed everyday for the past week or so, bad I know but I’m getting back on the train. Anyways I started taking l carnitine tartrate which has been shown to, like nofap, significantly boost the number of androgen receptors, normally after a few days of relapses I would feel extra anxious and like I lost a decent amount of vigor but with the carnitine I still feel a sense of vigor like I’m on day 14 or so of nofap I think it’s a great supplement to experiment with. I’m definitely very excited to see what it feels like when I get to around day 15 I’ll probably feel like I’m on roids lol

Some neuroscientists like to use the phrase, "there's no neurobiological free lunch". It all comes down to nuances though. E.g. sure there is a slight dip even after eating a bit of cake, but so what? It's so small that we hardly even notice it, if we don't overdo things like that. Life itself is full of ups and downs. That's good. There would be no day without night.

PIED can come back pretty easily after once having it in life, so I would stay away from even moderation. That said, some people can probably get away with a small amount. But know that it is very risky, precisely because it can return with much smaller amounts than what it took for the brain to develop PIED to begin with.

Cold showers are good for us. Even though the good feeling from them comes pretty quickly, they do not count as an "instant gratification activity" because we pay with effort and pain FIRST (while we're standing there in the shower). So, they are good as long as a person is not overdoing them, of have any healthy issues preventing them from taking them, of course.

Sorry to hear that :( Breakups like that can really mess with your head. Stuff like this can hit so hard that it overshadows any benefits you’d normally notice on your NoFap journey. It’s tough... but trust me-things will start feeling better! For now, try to focus on things that keep your mind and body moving forward. Hit the gym, go for a run, or even just get outside for some fresh air. Moving your body is like hitting the reset button for your brain. Journaling can also help-get those spinning thoughts out of your head and onto paper. It might not fix everything, but it gives you some clarity. It's like thinking on paper...and it helps. Also...these are the kind of moments where a lot of guys fall back into old habits (relapsing), to numb the pain...or just because they lost the drive . Don’t let that happen, brother...that's a trap. All that progress you’ve made-it’s still there. Don’t throw it away just because life threw a curveball at you. Pain sucks, but it’s temporary. If you stick with this journey, you’ll come out of this way stronger. I'll say it again, you'll come out of this stronger! You’re on day 75, man. That’s no small thing. Keep going, and don’t let the darkness fool you into thinking bad and sucky feelings are forever. You’ve got this.

Hey bob i was on a 70 day streak and at the end of september i relapsed which caused another six relapses until now i'm on day 12 peak flatline so how long do you estimate it will last considering i got out of the last one on day 60 ish?

It's impossible to say. Depends a bit on the 6 relapses you had in between as well, how intense and severe they were. But if they looked pretty similar to your previous 'porn using history' the best guess is that the flatline will be about the same length, although it does not have to be as the flatline can indeed vary in length even when seemingly all factors around it is equal.

I would suspect it does not do much to your testosterone in either direction. Since it's a mild stressor, it could perhaps raise T-levels slightly because of the long term stress resilience it creates. But that's just my guess.

Hello Bob, Im in a difficult scenario in this journey. My journey started when I tried making out with a girl for the first time and my thing didnt work. ( I was scared that I would bust to quick beforehand but it didnt even work, never tought of that). Now im staying away from the porn and feeling very low libido. Im a guy who can easily date girls but I just dont know what to do, 0 confidence in the sexual part now. Do you think it will be a good idea to start dating and try rewire your brain with 'real' girls, or just go fully alone and let my brain heal more by itself. Im like 3 months in this journey with ups and downs, but the staying away from porn is going well, had like a few little 3 minute relapses over the 3 months. Also didnt orgasm since the end of october now. I dont know if I should already try or just keep going solo for a few months to completely reboot. (I was never a heavy porn user and just did it for fun, but there is definitly a PIED. My brain is just used to the artificial arousel instead of the 'real' I guess, since i can get a boner easily with the artificial stuff. To make it clear: -Go dating girls or keep rebooting by yourself for a bit longer? -Is it possible to have morning wood in a flatline?

A) Possible to date during reboot and to start right away, but you could try to go one month super strict with zero arousal at all to make sure your dopamine system is fully back on track, as knowing that it is might also help your nerves and confidence a bit. But again, don''t feel like that is something you have to do. B) It is possible to have morning wood during flatline, mot more often then not it is either lacking or is weaker than usual then.

It depends on how we want to word it. I'd say it's not even so much post acute withdrawals, but even more the acute, or actual withdrawals. One could say that the flatline, or the characteristics it has, is the porn addicts main withdrawal symptom. Or the one unique to porn addicts. It definitely goes under the category of withdrawals. But then, as most already know, we can also suffer from other, more common (more common for general addictions) withdrawal symptoms, such as anxiety, insomnia, depression etc.

Hey Bob, I want to share and ask a few things with you. Do you think that busting is related to procrastination or something even deeper than that? I have been fighting this for almost a year. When I wasn't addicted, I remember being able to spend an entire day studying, and I had really good grades. But now, I can't even concentrate anymore; it's almost impossible. It's like I have some form of ADHD, and I'm worried. I don't think this is a coincidence since it started when I began this bad habit. I've been feeling anxious and depressed, thinking this might ruin my future. I'm on day 45, going strong, and althought I feel anxious and depressed, I'm pretty sure I'll make it to the end. I'm just worried about how long it will take for recovery, and there's another question I want to ask you: How long does it take to recover?

Well did you bust to online porn or without the porn? I.e. porn addiction can definitely cause low motivation, low energy and procrastination. In fact, that is super common. Then, as I talked about in today's video, if the guy has a history of porn addiction, even busting in and of itself can for some of those recovering porn addicts bring about a milder flatline again (which procrastination can for sure be part of). But individual cases are nuanced, and I do not do coaching in the comment section simply because the lack of time, as I would need to know the individuals history though an in depth dialogue before being able to assess and give good advice.
