Being born in 1996, I started riding a motorcycle for the first time about a year ago. Like everyone else, I hit the road with a small scooter. Now, I'm riding a cheap 125cc bike, but lately, I've been thinking about upgrading to a higher cc motorcycle. The Hero Xpulse 200 seemed like the most logical option for me, but recently, I had the chance to stand next to a 1996 XRV 750. And in that moment, I realized that getting along with something around my own age would be much easier than with a brand-new teenager. And that's how I stumbled upon your video. Greetings from Turkiye 🇹🇷

As an owner of a similar Africa Twin for +10 years, and having ridden many other bikes, I still feel the old girls gives me the widest smile when I go on twisty roads and lean it around. As you say, there is something about doing that with a bike that wasn’t built for it but still does it so well. Keep up the great work.

Ladys and gentlemen, this right here is the argument for starting on a smaller bike. Everybody saying "you grow out of a 300cc/500cc so quickly and will have to buy a new one" is true on one hand, but if you stick to your small bike and master it, you will become a brilliant rider like this dude right here rocking an 20 years old African Twin through the corners "fast-ish" :D This will most likely take you a lot longer on a bigger starter bike. Schaaf you are one of the most skillful riders I know and I really love your content. On Insta and KZbin likewise. (Y)
@rideroundandstuff8 жыл бұрын
Aside Whoever thinks he really "grew out of" something around 500 or more is justing looking for an excuse to buy a new bike.
@Schaaf8 жыл бұрын
+Aside thank you very much!!! Of course I absolutely agree. It doesn't take long until a 500cc bike feels too weak. But sticking to it and trying to "master" the thing surely pays off in the end. +supermotardmario You are also right. It's such a shame that many people out there always immediately feel offended when someone has a different opinion about anything. I'm just saying that people should stay on smaller bikes for learning. But some folks immediately will accuse me of saying that it's wrong to ride bigger bikes on the road in general when hearing me recommending smaller ones to beginners..... That's why I always keep on preaching that everybody should ride whatever the fuck he or she wants. As long as they enjoy it. And if someone's interested in becoming confident and quick I'll tell them it might be a good idea to start small and be patient for a while. But like you were saying no one should feel the need to justify themselves when buying a new bike.

Awesome!!! 😍 The classic Africa Twin was also one of my many childhood dream bikes, so it's great to see you riding it, and enjoying it that much... Obviously the bikers of the 90s had at least as much fun as we have, proving that power and electronics don't really matter as long as there are 2 wheels and an engine 😉

So @Schaaf, since I can't own a 1996 Honda XRV 750 Africa Twin where I live (it was also my dream bike when I was a little kid but they never sold it here), do you think that the T7 is a good alternative? I don't want something too expensive or heavy like the GS because I have a lot of learning to do. Do you think that the T7, even if it doesn't look like the Africa Twin, will make me smile just like the old beast could?

You should try one with a Hyperpro upgrade.. Mine has just that, including Galfer wave's, especially the suspension is the best upgrade you can do on an AT. Doing Fly overs on the freeway flat out (on semi-road tires) and seeing the Beemer posers getting smaller in your mirrors never gets old.

And what was cornerings, speed on corners comparing with cb500? BTW, looks like i see close throttle in corners? not trying to learn you, because you ride much, much better than me, but all books, who i be readed about moto piloting say - in cornering always must be some acceleration to transfer weight to rear tyre....
@Schaaf8 жыл бұрын
I can definitely go a lot faster through corners with my CB because it has much better suspension in my case (modded suspension). Yes you are supposed to be on the throttle while cornering to stabilize the bike.
@sasacata7 жыл бұрын
I took my bike license with a CB500 and i can compare the 2. The CB 500 is lighter, and although having less power than the XRV, it throws a bigger punch than the AT. Not to mention the CB500 is 6 speed, that will definetely help the bike progress. And the engine on the CB500 has a better design than the AT and better tuned The only thing AT will excel is torque.
@rammsteinfreundsonne8 жыл бұрын
Ich als ehemaliger CB500 Fahrer kann bestätigen, dass sich AFs, GS800 und co alle ein wenig beängstigend sind, was schnell fahren angeht. Ist trotzdem was feines.

@Schaaf8 жыл бұрын
so richtig ziehen tut die nirgends. Hochtourig, weil's mir so viel mehr Spaß macht. Und ich glaub für die Spitzenleistung braucht sie zumindest 6000 Touren. Ja, war ein ND Filter oben!

Can I ask why you blur your face when you show it on other videos?
@Dowent8 жыл бұрын
This is a raw video without any cuts. It shows him breaking some of the road rules, so it would be silly to also show his face within the same shot.

Freeman i finally get it now... i've asked him this question three times and everytime schaaf made some very vague remarks. sigh, at least i know why now.

Shaaf I have to agree about Hondas built in the 90s man. Much like Mercedes had a period of over engineering their cars, Honda did on their bikes back then. I owned a 98 pre VTEC VFR an absolutely bullet proof and beautiful bike. The Africa Twin is a legendary machine. I rode the new one recently for over 700 miles in two days and can report an extremely comfortable but underpowered bike. That is on the road though.
@Schaaf8 жыл бұрын
thanks for the insights! I only heard the best about these old VFRs. Must be amazing to ride indeed!
