My kid was diagnosed with very early onset childhood schizophrenia, meaning she’s 1 in 40,000 kids diagnosed at 8 years old. She was likely born that way, but was originally diagnosed with autism because they look identical in little kids. We knew it wasn’t the right diagnosis when shadow people were following and touching her. She also heard people calling her name, thinks everyone hates her and are staring at her, and is delusional. It has stolen her childhood. She turns 16 next week and she’s a (in her words) “a frequent flyer ,” in the pediatric behavioral health unit (child psych unit). Turns out my father was schizophrenic and no one told me.

@Diedra Sounds similar to my relative who has schizoaffective disorder. We knew she was mentally ill when she was 18. She wasn’t properly diagnosed until she was 20 or so, which places her on the low end of statistical range. Looking back, though, it’s clearer to us that she was exhibiting symptoms as early as 13. Back then, though, we didn’t have a clue.

I got committed to a psych ward for hold on their highest suicide watch, all because I wouldn't tell a school counselor that my grandfather molested me (he hadn't), and so she got mad and called the police, and later my parents, telling them I'd said I wanted to kill myself. I was like 12/13 and it stressed me out so much that I was crying too hard to correct anyone, so they took me to a ward and I stayed strapped to a bed every single night and had someone watching me shower, among other things, all because a school hired a batshit crazy counselor. I ended up at a much better school later, so some are still sane, but I really don't know how some other schools fuck up so bad.

Not everybody you dislike or selfish is a NaRcIsSiSt, they're just not compatible with you, whether they're an asshole, bad person, or just not aligned is a different story. That one about the kids who heard voices telling him to burn down his school, and being put in jail for it, hit me. My brother-in-law was in highschool during the 1990s, and when Columbine happened, he said he could understand that being bullied would make someone made enough to kill. For this he was arrested in school, and marched out o the building in handcuffs. Nothing ever came of it. The amount of fear, and even sometimes outright cowardice, people have about this issue is just strange. If they don't want school shootings to be a thing, change society to that is doesn't happen. Blaming the lone nut is never going to change anything. EDIT: Moby "Dong"@ 17:54 LMFAO

I was in highschool, about 16 or 17 during columbine. I TOO can fully understand how kids could go nuts. And I think most people BADLY bullied can understand. And the most screwed up thing is schools ALLOW BULLYING TO CONTINUE, but the second you punch someone in the dace after 2 years of bullying, YOU'RE THE PROBLEM and they're the victim. How the hell is THAT social justice? Not saying everyone deserves to die, but the system is absolutely rotten and ALLOWS these things to happen by being so inept for years.

@@OffGridInvestor There's a rumor online that one of the Columbine boys was sexually assaulted by a cop a while before the shooting. They say this was one of the motivators to build pipe bombs in distribute them around the school, so that police responding to the shooting would also be killed. As far as I know, it's an unsubstantiated rumor. But we do know that things like that happen in society everyday. Perhaps we should be asking why victims don't go on killing sprees more often?

The first Bipolar type Schizoaffective hit the nail on the head for me as I'm going through the latter half now and trying to stay strong enough to finish school. I can hold down work, but need work more suitable that I won't always be around people or choose when I can leave that the school is training me for, but getting hung up on disorganized thoughts, lack of motivation, and/or age as fundamental cores bore me and can't focus on what I've long considered a "waste of time" even back in primary school. Mine started young, with nightmares I could physically feel that slowly but surely bleed into my reality. I started having trouble understanding fiction was just fiction. I went through episodes I thought the magic system in my tv shows were real. I had hands grabbing me all the time, and it always sounded like I was surrounded by people. I couldn't really understand why people wanted silence because you can hear everyone talking when it's quite and they are meeeeeaaaan. Trees would start to walking around and the giant tarantula sitting on my shoulder petting my face. Reflections always looked different than what they actually were. My mother never believed I was actually schizophrenic so I was punished everytime I showed symptoms. By grounding me. I had to sit in one spot and do nothing but stare at the ceiling for weeks at a time. It was torture! I got poked, bit, punched, pinched, burning, and screamed at all with no ability to detract myself from those hallucinations. Then she had the fucking nerve to say "you don't act like you hear voices, so your not schizophrenic"

I once heard that the way Schizophrenia affects people depends on culture and/or their society, for example in many western countries it is seen as a horrible mess up mental illness thus people from those countries with schizophrenia tend to manifest hallucinations negatively such as monster like face on people, negative voices and such, but in some other parts of the world schizophrenia is seen not as bad and thus the people from those places(i think somewhere in Asia) tend to have a much easier time because their society/culture as a whole does not associate the illness with something disturbing, but don’t quote me on that i might just be hearing voice.

It has been said that a lot of famous people have had similar phenomena happen to them, where they could just hear a song in their head. My mom was diagnosed with 3 x of Schizophrenia, all deemed to be very dangerous. She passed away over a Year ago. During my childhood I didn't know why mom had "episodes" where she wasn't normal, and would just wish that she would act like a normal person during those times. I didn't understand anything back then. As I grew older, I became more aware and began to understand thing's related to her better... But at the same time I still kept wishing she was normal, despite knowing that it wasn't her fault that she was mentally ill. I read up a lot about schizophrenia during the last few years of her life, trying to find a way to help her if any, it was very difficult she refused to take medicine, always side effects, always saying this therapy isn't working I need a new one etc... The comment's in this video made me understand another side to schizophrenia that I couldn't really grasp before. The side of what she's seeing/hearing/feeling, maybe her thoughts where different? I can't say 100%, but I feel like there's as lot that correlates to her behavior in this video.

I don’t have schizophrenia. But I have Major Depressive Disorder with Psychotic Features, which means I do sometimes get delusions and hallucinations. I am constantly paranoid that people want to hurt me despite there being no evidence and I’ve developed a mild case of agoraphobia because of it. It all started after I smoked weed. I believe I was predestined to have it and the weed just set something off that made it happen earlier. Either that or it was one hell of a coincidence.

Its weird, its like sometimes I feel that it's all a ruse and everyone I cross paths were in on the scheme trying to keep me from thinking anythings off. And if I did act like I notice, then they would immediately come after me and terminate the program 😂😂... this world is truly amusing sometimes lol

I remember that there's a guy with schizophrenia that has a youtube channel recording himself during his episodes; unlike most schizophrenics, though, he for whatever reason simply isn't affected by the hallucinations, can always tell that they are. I don't remember what the channel name was though. I remember a video, he was on the computer talking, then turned around to his door, turned back, rolled his eyes with annoyance because "There are communists in my yard. Nonsense!"

Not schizophrenia, but my godmother was at a party with my mum when they were 19, she was given a pill and my mum said no. Godmother was off her face and fell backwards on some concrete steps causing a traumatic brain injury. Within a year she was diagnosed with rapid cycling bipolar disorder with periods of psychosis. I love her to pieces but unfortunately she’s stuck in the routine of being manic thinking she doesn’t need her meds so stops taking them, drops down hard into depressive episodes and starts becoming psychotic, gets hospitalised back on her meds and then it’s rinse and repeat, she’s 51 now and this has been her life for the last 32 years, most people have cut contact with her as they can’t keep going through the same thing again and again. I get where she’s coming from and being unable to have her own children she’s always been another mum to me, I’ve been the only one to get her to take her medication but with my own problems I can’t look after her full time and it breaks my heart

Well, it started out being visual. There was a man who would follow me around. It turned out he was the buggey man. I also would hear music in odd places or have perceptional issues. A lot of my voices were trying to kill me as a child. One told me I could jump off the roof, and I would be fine. I got ready to, and my grandpa grabbed me. The hallucinations of the McDonalds characters would come in and out of my sleeping hours. I was terrified of Ronald and friends. I'll say I was quite entertained, but not in a good way. My mom was the only one who noticed it because I was bizarre. I would run into doors and walls and a bunch of other things. My affect became almost flat in HS.

I constantly think my parents are taking me back to the mental "hospital" when riding in the car. Fortunately I guess I have this mental split where I can usually see my life from the outside and analyze it logically, so I never jump out of the car or anything. Should I be concerned about potential schizophrenia? I do have ptsd/cptsd and autism, and probably some other things.

Nothing happened to trigger this, my brain is just fucked. I was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder last year (2022) after being in psychosis for a year. I hope I can get to stay in this hospital for some weeks because I just can’t fix my sleeping rythm and eating habits on my own. Then I came to realize other people must be seeing clips of me and my life through my eyes, and that TERRIFIED me. So i decided I should NEVER open my eyes because if they saw through my eyes they could use my vision to track me down and- it was hellish. I was sobbing too violently to even speak, just absolute hysterics. 0/10, would not recommend the experience. I cant lie though, the one with the bears? Was really fucking funny. Onset of schizophrenia before the age of 18 is called "early onset". It's also pretty rare, and only occurs in 4% of cases. Guess this is that 4 percent. Majority of cases 80-85 percent occur between 18-30 yrs old. Over 40 is late onset and accounts for 15-20 percent. Men usually develop earlier than women, who tend to develop it between 25-35 yrs old.

I had an experience once where i woke up in the middle of the night, and i felt something was really off with my room Everything looked darker than usual, dark to a point where i couldn't hear or see anything Only then did I realized what was different in my room, there was something there with me I don't know what it was, every time I try to remember what it looked like I just remember it was big and strong My first instinct was to scream, but I didn't want to scream, because I knew that if I screamed that thing would tear me in half; so i just I lay there, with that thing next to me, making a strange noise, as if it was somehow growling and screaming at me at the same time, so loud that i thought i could hear it inside my skull I don't know how long I was there, but the whole time I felt like my brain was battling itself, trying to decide if the whole situation was real or not It was then that I realized that it didn't matter if it was real or not, i didn't know if i would either die by the hands of an unknown thing or find out that was all just a nightmare, what i did know was that that would only end when I moved So i did the only thing i could actually think about: I gathered all my strength, filled my lungs with air and screamed for my mom as loud as I could The scariest part of this experience? None of the things I thought would happen if I moved happened: i didn't get ripped apart by the thing, but i didn't woke up from a nightmare either It all just… stopped The thing, the loud sound I was hearing from it, the shadow covering my entire room Everything was gone before I even finished screaming "mom" Then i went to my mom's room to ask if she heard me… she was still sleeping, and god knows that even the sound of a feather falling can wake her up I still don't know if it was real or a nightmare from which I woke up very very quickly And i really don't want to find out

I’m currently struggling with a lot of these mentioned, I have mental illnesses but not (Atleast I sincerely hope not ) schizophrenia. It really does start off gradually ..nothing out of the norm as I’ve had “schizophrenic” symptoms in my elementary years but went away for awhile, as I started to turn 19- now 20 I felt like people were pissed at me, talking shit & laughing, even their facial expressions would change to annoyed or angry ?? Thought the house was haunted and felt conflicted on if it’s worse to be living in a haunted house or for it to be all in my head. Darker thoughts that are getting more intrusive with time to the point where I feel like I have to constantly try to over talk the voice that’s me, just for it to interrupt and say that I hope someone that I love dies and panicked cause now feeling like they will and everything is a sign so if it’s bad I’m afraid to go out fearing me or someone else will die soon. I heard distant screaming & I try and laugh it off and be like typical me but bitch😬 I’ve seen animals and even on my days where I’m okay I have this random urge to just kms on a whim despite being so terrified of going to hell the thought of not wanting to die unless I do it MYSELF is instense to where that content turns into pissed off really quick cause why tf am i even here doing this? The hardest part from all that is realizing all these years I’ve been up I’ve felt nothing, autopilot, torn between complete apathy and indifference to whatever tf. No regard of day or time, these are just a few I can list atm but I’m afraid to get a proper diagnosis cause I already heard a couple things during my previous therapist/psychiatrist that I don’t like (bipolar inconclusive, started bringing up borderline personality by 18) cause once you get diagnosed with mental illness people treat you differently! Started inpatient in 1st grade and have been in a total of 22 times (no shit I was a bit off the chain) I want to be able to know what I have so I can work on it but ya know..I wanna be done with medicine, & though I have trauma I got to a point where I’m not sure if I had a trauma and just made it all up & started this shit show myself a long time ago. Sorry for the long post LMFAOOO
