Excellent video guys. I keep getting told you will not build muscle with body weight... You got to go to the gym. I've tryed the gym and it's ok but I just like to be outside and train and I find calisthenics more interesting especially when using the gym rings. 👍 Plus I'm in my late 40s and trying to build muscle is not easy, but I enjoy the learning curve and helps kick that stress away.

@@sharonsalve2835 you can build muscle with bw, resistance is resistance the only difference between bw and weights is that it is easier and faster to progress in terms of aesthetics and strength gains because of an easier time with progressive overload. as long as you induce progressive overload with resistance then you will grow

I don't get how anyone would give this a thumbs down, it's great stuff. Probably someone just does,not know enough about body weight training so they stick to the Bro science that bodyweight does not build muscle.

Just picked up on a point raised in the video and engaging your lats for pull ups. I have strong arms and back and good at pullups but my. Lats are not that we'll developed and I would guess maybe are not getting engaged properly during pullups to benefit fully. Is there a way I can ensure good engagement on my own or another exercise to develop lats you would recommend? The more bodyweight stuff I do the more of a bug I get! Thinking I might swap out another one of my weights days from next week. I love it.

Great video guys, this is a big help for someone who's just getting into calisthenics like me. One question though, would increasing my tempo count as increasing intensity? Say I could do 12 pull ups at a tempo of 2 sec. concentric, 1 sec. hold, 2 sec. eccentric, would doing 6 pull ups at a tempo of 4-2-4 count as increased intensity, leading to mechanical tension?

Hey guys great vid. Do you think slowing down the rep would be an effective way of making it fit into that 6-8 range? For example I can do more than 8 push ups or dips but if I lower myself really slowly I’ll fail around that range. Thanks!
@DiscipleW4 жыл бұрын
To achieve 6-8 reps in the pushups I start with resistant band dips over my traps to fatigue the muscle. Is this approach viable for increasing hypertrophy?

Great vid but, bodyweight.... add weight to your push ups. Add weight to you eccentric pull ups? Hmm
@SchoolofCalisthenics5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the message. To do more advanced calisthenics movements we have to create progressive overload if we're to improve strength. Force production and strength to weight ratio is key in calisthenics and if people have desires to do muscle ups and single arm pull ups they have to ramp these qualities and we do that by adding weight. There is of course many calisthenics movements you can do without adding weight so it all depends on what you want to achieve. Hope your training is going well. Tim
