The pain tolerance in humans is also higher in men. In contrast, women have a better immune system, as a lot of information is encoded on the 23 pairs of chromosomes (on the X chromosome). Since women have 2 different X chromosomes, their immune system is more effective.

@@sylviarohge4204 ... Not true. The x, and y chromosomes regulates gender, and not immune system. You could say that their coded for our s3× organs, and the roll they play, and how they play it. The liver is responsible for the immune system if memory serves me right. With those meaning that the immune system would be apart of that chromosome, but I believe it might have it own chromosome to design it. Remember cells are computers, and DNA is the code for the computer. Just like computers a section of code only works on certain sections of the computer. For example like computer code that creates the program that runs the internet, or the code that runs the program for the app store. Either way enough rambling, but I will worn you that other people would make fun of you for the simple misunderstanding. I on the other hand just like to correct people, and maybe argue to pass the time.

@@sylviarohge4204 Uh, no, women have a less aggressive immune system. Men evolved to be the hunters, running around, dealing with male animals defending their heard, they hurt more often and with greater wounds. The men who had more aggressive immune system were more likely to survive an infection in an open wound which happened often enough they were far more likely to survive long enough to pass on their genes. Women, in contrast, being the gatherers in hunter-gatherers had far less drawback from a less aggressive immune system, while at the same time a more aggressive immune system would make it more likely to kill off any sperm before it could reach her eggs, or even attack her own offspring. Women with a less aggressive immune system were likely to pass on their genes, and the rest is evolution. A more aggressive or not immune system is not particularly better or worse; it depends entirely on the circumstances. Having a virus that can fool the immune system into attacking the person's own body and protective systems, makes having a more aggressive immune system a bad thing, in contrast, if you have less aggressive immune system is a bad thing if you have very fast spreading infection. Evolution simply gave us the immune system that better suited our roles, and most likely injuries and infections.

Women have higher pain tolerance towards ripping pain. Men have higher tolerance to blunt pain. Cutting pain they resist roughly equaly. Women indeed have higher joint mobility and fine motor control then men, but men have slightly faster reaction times and quicker muscle contraction. Men also have more stable ligaments. Endurance and strenght go towards men. There is a reason why men and women, even in the same weight class, compete in seperate sport leagues. Women are still fiercely capable though, as humans are in general. The introduction of power armor could close the gap in the future, as it gives strenght, stability and endurance. Then there would just be the difference between fine precision and range of movement vs. Quick reactions and acceleration. Elegant vs. Fast.

Womens bodies can produce more natural paikillers, but men have testosterone which works as a performance enhancing drug in combat instead of just having adrenaline and have more sturdy bodies. So a women will survive an incalacitating wound more often, but a man is more likely to inflict wounds and less likely to be incapacitated. The less sturdy, more flexible, less proactive, more enduring physiology is less evolutionarily less geared towards combat, but towards surviving childbirth. Males lack the flexibility and pain tolerance during incapacitation to survive such things, while women lack the sturdyness to to not be incapcitated during combat and inflict damage

They're evolutionarily geared for non-combat roles and i mean this in the most non-demeaning way but women aren't expendable or worthless enough to be squandered on the battlefeild Women being seen as "equal on the battlefield" is hilariously immature paradigm the only historical prescedant when women were employed on the frontlines are when the given society was on its last legs There is objectively no good reason to let women's lives be wasted in the military There's already a miriad of testimonies out there from both male and female soldiers about how their presence and "equal treatment" in boot camp just decreases the overall standards of the training Even the op of the story caught onto that fact without realizing they aren't so much as they are different there's objectively no good reason for equal contribution to be expected of them "women are equal to men" is a fairly new and downright foolish paradigm for it assumes equality to be a good thing Both the story and motto are shallow fiction for women who indirectly look down on womanhood and wanna be "more like men" as if that's somehow superior to womanhood (which it is not)

@@monseurwanksalotte3477 you bring up several intresting points, some more valid/worth responding to than others. first i want to address the equal treatment thing, because i never said that. i said from my first comment that men and women would lean into different strengths in combat, and thus any military training would have to consider that and thus not be "equal" in a standardized sense. you also touched on the point of total war, and of population recovery. this is a valid point, however this is only a concern in a society where a large portion of the population are in the military, atleast 20%. and frankly those kinds of numbers are unheard of in modern times except during the absolute height of the world wars, and even then it was about 30% of the population, the vast majority of those men. (so, about 60% of men depending on your nation) the point is, if you are dealing with volunteer, non-mobilization armies that make up a tiny fraction of your population as most modern nations and most spacefaring nations likely would aswell then the population concerns for women serving are negligable. as far as the concepts of "manhood" and "womanhood" these are for the most part human constructs baked into our societal values, and stemming from our biology rather than directly being hardwired into us. this is an important distinction. TL;DR Technology and Training, when combined with a non-total war scenario where population is not a concern, allows for women to serve in advanced militaries with little issue. and in these situations where they are, they can be successful if their potential is utilized appropriately.

There is much wisdom in this story, never push a woman to the breaking point. One of two things will happen, most of the time they're emotion's get the best of her. The few that "break" lose control and reason and in a fight or flight situation the ones who fight weather to protect they're children or other loved ones fall into the sea of blood lust and in that state she is capable of doing unspeakable things to the target of her rage! In the very rare cases, her brutally can lead to her target to the edge of death, but her drive for revenge will allow her to hold back and prolong the targets suffering, perhaps for a few extra minutes or under the right conditions she may torcher the object of her rage for hours to many days. There's records in our history of women extracting suffering, and misery for years! Take head, never abuse a girl or woman, for you never know if she will be the rare individual that will grind that ax bidding her time till evening falls into place and she extracts her vengeance!

She was from a country where if a woman was abused, she could tough it out for years until the kids were grown and then kill her husband. After he was dead, she would simply wait to be arrested etc. She didn't expect to 'get away with it'. Killing him (at last) was simply worth it. No doubt she had been looking forward to it for many years and made sure he didn't die easily. Women from her part of the world would typically warn a man before they got (sexually) involved not to screw her over or she would take his *** [male reproductive organs, external dual set] . . . I mean the pain tolerance is an iffy topic because it is highly dependant on the type of pain, when it comes to pain based on temperature, then women can tolerate more heat but less cold than men, and more general non-damaging pain, when it comes to blunt force trauma, men will tolerate more and be less prone to shock as the bone and muscle structures are denser. When it comes to piercing pain or penetration damage this is where it gets tricky. In regards to gunshot wounds, there is a huge difference in reaction based on sex, even tho males can survive losing more blood, if they are shot, their bodies will remain combat effective and large doses of adrenaline can keep them from feeling any pain - this is why some soldiers don't even realise they were shot, but this means that males are likely to bleed out with how active they remain while damaged females on the other hand can loose less blood, but once shot, their bodies shut themselves down to stop the blood flow and the pain is paralising instead to prevent strain. Their organism does whatever possible to preserve itself. This is why generalising "pain tolerance" will always be inaccurate as the differences are based on pain and damage types. To summorise when it comes to combat damage: Men - can sustain combat ability when shot, body pumps adrenaline to keep them conscious, likely to die from bleeding. Women - once shot, will become paralised from pain, body shuts down to prevent bleedout, not combat effective but more likely to survive.

So guess what, YOUR definition of gender is wrong too. - - - - - - - On to "Intersex" and "Sexless" Intersex and sexless are just humans with *Ambiguous Gender.* As in, the phenotypes displayed are insufficient in determining the gender. XXY Males are certainly not Ambiguous. They look like taller less hairy males. X_ Females are also not Ambiguous. They are generally shorter and suffer other health problems. XXY are Males with Klinefelter syndrome. 1 in 650 males have this and probably don't even know it. X_ are females with Turner's syndrome. 1 in 2000 females have this. Your understanding of "single chromosome can differentiate between male and female" is wrong. It is the presense (or absense) of the SRY gene. You have that one gene, you're male. You don't have that one gene, you're female. The gene is _usually_ found on the Y chromosome. XXY is male because the Y chromosome holds the SRY gene. X_ is female because it lacks the SRY gene. Same with XYY, XXX, or any other variant. The only exception to the "Y Chromosome rule" is the XX-Male, where there was a gene translocation that moved the SRY gene onto an X chromosome.

Different doesn't mean better or worse. Men and women are built different, but having different specs doesn't mean they are not capable at most things the opposite gender can, and in all these cases any advantage one gender has the opposite gender can bridge that gap with a small of effort. About the only exceptions are feeding the young, and the 2 halves of breeding.

9:42 small note here, of course this stories just for entertainment but to be factual the myth of women having higher pain tolerence should be exposed, they in fact have more nerves than men, this makes women lyteraly feel any pain more than a man does, also a major part of how "nimble" someone is is baced on theyre strength and theyre size, on average men can not only hit harder, and faster than women due to faster reflexes and greater strength but since they have a greater focus on upper body strength could climb faster, and due to a diference in hip structure and theyre stronger muscles can also run faster also being heavier and taller they have a reach advantage and cant be pushed or thrown around as well as women can, in truth, i dont know of a single physical advantage women naturaly have... besides slower blood loss, which would be very useful in surviving wounds, that said without some form of pain supressant the dibilitating effects of any life threatning wound would pretty much make slower blood loss irelevent. apoligies for my poor spelling ^^ also i due aprove of women taking up combat roles in fact a physicaly strong women is extreamly! appealing to me especialy a woman with abbs, beautiful.

So the writer actually thinks women have a higher pain tolerance... well, that's wrong. Funny thing, he seems to completely forget about that pesky think where women have much less dense bone structures. Also, unless that centaur thing comes from a planet with significantly less gravity, while having way more mass on his muscles and bones, his muscles and ligaments are going to significantly stronger than hers; it is pretty much impossible for her to pull something loose, using her entire body or not. Indeed, with a fist the size of her head, and the full weight of a horse behind, the chance that she survives the first hit are slim to none. Most likely her, and any human man's head, are just going to go splat. There is also no reason anywhere that the centaur can't just get up, pull her up, and ram her against the nearest wall with all his weight behind it, not something she's going to just walk away from. Whenever I see some scene in some Hollywood flick where some tiny five foot women, whose clearly never trained a day in her life, just casually punch out men twice her size with muscles indicating he's trained most of his life, ridiculous, the writer here took to a whole new ridiculous extreme by doing it with a centaur, wow.

The simple obvious answer is that the equipment is doing all of the heavy lifting; quite literally, not the woman, so why would he have issues with what he's seen and the woman present? Even if he was as ridiculously over the top sexist he can't see past a far greater difference; species, he could still dismiss the feats as no important because the armor that's doing it, not the woman. Still, it's pretty obvious she's not wearing a helmet even if she's wearing augmented clothing, and unless the centaur is a lot less heavy than he appears with much less dense biology due to lower gravity (which makes it highly unlikely to have evolved the way it is), even men with denser heavier bones, and thus skull, are most likely going to get their skull caved in; and thus die, if they're really lucky they'll survive, but then they can enjoy recuperation in a hospital.

I do jiu jitsu with women. I want to be 100% accurate when I say this so no blowing smoke up anyone's asses. The women I roll with in jiu jitsu (even black belts and even when I was a white belt) aren't really a match for a determined man in the same spot. Men are faster, stronger, have quicker reaction times, more agressive, take more riske, more confident and decisive, no .ore dexterous than men and have far less endurance. That said, they do have a more natural affinity to some things that can (and will with time) be overcome by a man with practice, but sometimes it isn't fair how fast a woman can learn the basics of something that has taken me months. One 37 year old 110 lb woman in my class was in the coast guard, does cross fit and I tell you she's months into the sport of jiu jitsu but she's learning fast. I, a purple belt, could put the business to her if I wanted but it's way more fun and dynamic to give just enough and watch this prodigy past her prime do her work. That said, I do think the story is inaccurate with the portrayal of women.... but I also get that it's just a story
@sleddog3092

So I reread this and I think I was being a little confusing When I say "women have natural affinities" I mean there are basic skills that women pick up faster. Snipers have often mentioned that brand new women are better shots than brand new men. The problem from women come when the skills go beyond the basics. In every meaningful way after months of training, men outclass women including endurance and dexterity, in any physical activity. Even in games like poker, men are able to take more risks, calculate possibilities, bluff and read opponents. Men and women are different, And in any game or sport revolving around confrontation, men tend to win. But women are far better caregivers. They can read the needs of another far better and can communicate complex thoughts and ideas in ways that even a child can understand I get that I'm making a generalization and I get that this is a story. But Its just weird how people haven't figured out how different we are yet and how we complement each other perfectly

Women are less likely to tunnel vision on a task which makes them better at in watching child while doing something else including watching other children. But on tasks that require long term concentration men do better. One should also remember that that in biological systems there are always freeks that fail to conform to the normal.

This story is all sorts of stupid. I get why an alien might think no woman from their species can fight. I could even understand a human (wrongfully) thinking that about other humans. But to think that NO woman from ANY species could fight? That doesn't make sense at all. For an "educated" individual, or worse; a class of them, to think such foolishness is beyond the realm of reason. Just take animals from Earth for example. Would you say no Lioness could fight? Does a female shark lack teeth? is a female snake non-venomous? Heck, in some species the female is many MORE times more deadly than the males.
@Alex_Fahey
@Alex_Fahey Жыл бұрын
It's especially silly since sexual dimorphism usually favors the female in size going by evolution's oddities. Almost any creature that has a lot of children (e.g., birds laying dozens of eggs, spiders with egg sacs of hundreds, queen insects with their sprawling colonies made of their children, et cetera) needs to have large females to hold all the nutrients to accomplish such a monumental task as birthing new members and eusocial creatures like ants often have sterile females fill most of the dedicated castes while males are often simply seasonal "private" toys for fertilization. A male can be just as large or even follow a protector role and be larger (often seen in pack-based species from creatures like seals all the way to something like elephants). However, the male can also be absurdly tiny compared to the female serving as no more than a walking form of pollen to provide genetic diversity to the female's offspring. While female birds are usually a good 5-10% larger than the male of the species, you often see the truly absurd dimorphism in small creatures like insects or ocean life. Some spider females are twice the size, if not more, than the male of the species and often even eat the male after the deed is done. Some ocean-based species I know of have females that are so much greater in size than males that males can and often do live on or in the females (see anglerfish, for example) I think it is far more likely, even though it would still seem rather silly, that this story should happen with the exact reverse roles. A gigantic female of a new species on the galactic stage should act in some mixture of disgust and bemusment at the thought of a miniscule male being a warrior caste member rather than a large, sterile female. This female cadet would then be utterly bewildered when realizing that human males are not only the same size as females of their species, but in fact, significantly larger and - even more fantastically - generally geared more towards strength and power in their manipulator appendages that they also use for combat. Also, learning such by a brash human male that challenges the female to single combat and wins.

One problem with this particular story. A marine is expected to have self control and never let emotion lead the fight. Carter in this story, would be anathema to that particular point. Also talking back at a C.O or instructor the way Carter did was unnecessary and out of line, which again is anathema to a marine. I'm fine with a story having a female as a marine and as a bona fide bad ass but this "woman raaa raaa" bullcrap completely shattered the suspension of disbelief, strictly because anyone in an elite unit of combatants, wouldn't permit emotion to lead the fight and they certainly wouldn't snap at a C.O or an instructor for using a correct, scientific term to describe them. Also critique of the science of this story. Men have a higher pain tolerance than females. Men are also faster, leg muscle density and skeletal muscle what determines speed. women have less of both. The thing women do marginally better at is color perception and finger dexterity. Everything else, right out the gate, males are just flat out better at. It's biology. Don't believe me.. look up results of biological males competing against females. The males out perform females in speed, strength, endurance, pain tolerance, and computational tasks. Though in terms of internal consistency this story was okay to listen to. However it lacks actual reading of science at its base. Making it little more than self-insertion power fantasy.

@@lunatic-db6mp The whole point of science fiction is to maintain the suspension of disbelief. The science has to line up with reality at its base. It doesn't have to exactly line up when dealing with alien physiology or technology because those are best left to the imagination but established human physiology and biological fact, or scientifically accurate base is required for the story to actually hold the reader's attention. The story focused specifically on human performance factors and got the science between male and female differences completely wrong. Which to those that don't know any better wouldn't make a difference but to anyone that does, it takes them out of the experience. IN summary, the fact that it's a power fantasy is not the problem, the fact that it's unscientific, feminist power fantasy is the problem. here have a like on your comment too.

@@geoshark12 First up your scientific knowledge needs to be caught up apparently. Pain tolerance is based on the amount of nerves. Females have a higher nerve density than males. Making their skin more sensitive to outside stimuli, particularly in the face . Which incidentally also gives the male an advantage in pain tolerance. Training, etc can increase the amount one can take before shock sets in but the underlying biological fact is that males don't feel as much pain as women do. Secondly, when it comes to conduct of Carter in this story, she initiated the combat challenge. Making her conduct unbecoming of someone supposed to be in the elite of a military. even as a cadet. Since the challenge was issued out of spite to teach an alien a lesson for daring to think that a female is less than. Which again makes no sense, since in this aliens species, sexual dimorphism may be even more pronounced than humans.. Don't mistake honest critique of the science of a story with blind dismissal. I stated in the first comment that its internal consistency was okay to listen to. But as science fiction, it failed to suspend my disbelief. That is a legitimate criticism on legitimate grounds.. and i pointed out why. You getting pissy about a legitimate criticism of a way a story flows only shows that you can't be impartial about something and have to take it personally. Critique improves writing. It doesn't make it worse. Pointing out inconsistencies within it is not an insult to the writer, It's a chance to improve.

Tl;dr: you're biased and assume you did not serve with females. Yo, first off, her Grandmother was the marine. Carter is a cadet in a joint "alien" academy. Second, women have a higher pain threshold than men, men have a higher pain tolerance. Also women tent to forget or reset pain impressions while men tent to remember pain and even rate the same pain of higher intensity if exposed to it again. Women, on average, have higher manual dexterity. Including, higher motor skills under low stress level. Honestly, you need to read up on actual scientific studies and not your, excuse me, outdated biased fiction. Both men and women have unique skill sets. It's a no brainer to think that, in a futuristic setting, attributes such as strength, endurance and even computational tasks are easily outweighted by augmentation (like it doesn't matter if you're 20% stronger as a male compared to a female if your combat suit does the heavy lifting for you) this is already looked into by current military rnd. having a higher manual dexterity however is not. Having a higher pain tolerance can be situational beneficial, or it might flat out kill you. Having a higher pain tolerance can be better depending on the situation. Like, unironically, get rid of your "self-insertion power fantasy" and get in touch with reality before you come of as misogynistic. Try joining the military and tell me how you "wouldn't permit emotion to lead the fight". Like again, try to get in touch with reality for once. I've been fighting in afghanistan and i was required to have psychatric consulting for weeks before and after i got home. Yes, you try to "function" but you can not shut down emotions. You get literally trained to identify emotional behavior. Those who do not act emotional in war are usually those who end up with PTSD or worse with a gun in their mouth. If you tell your consular you didn't feel anything when you kill or see dead soldiers and that you "didn't act on emotions" you're in for a tread i guarantee you. I've served with women, seen the spectrum. Some are rightful proud to to the same job as their male counterparts, some took the opportunity to earn some extra cash while doing their foreign assignments, i leave that up for you to interpret. The spectrum is fairly wide. Personally, i've seen an injured female soldier shrugging it off and i've seen a 180lb male soldier crying like a little baby with a minor injury (I've had to carry him to our CM) . The spectrum is really wide. Don't try to pin it on gender.

And thus can take the same amount of damage and feel less pain overall. If you can biologically register less pain, your tolerance of it is increased. The story's framing of women as faster and more tolerant of pain are based on unscientific myths. which seems to be the most common critique on this common section. it takes people out of the experience of reading this. The dialogue of this story is excellent and the story quality is good. But the inconsistency is like a gunshot in the middle of an opera performance.. It's annoyingly distracting.

@@159tony I don’t think they said that women were faster though. Women do have a higher dexterity as well as stamina or what they called muscle endurance.

Any top rank male boxer will always, without exception, always beat a top ranked female boxer. Any middle ranked male mixed martial artist will always, without exception, beat a mid ranked female mixed martial artist. Any average weight Joe average male will always beat an average weight Jane average. I strongly approve of women knowing how to defend themselves, as a good portion of the morons that assault women are.. well., morons, but pretending the sexes are even remotely equal in a brawl is actively evil. You'll just get women that believe it hurt. There is good reason for women to know a bit about fighting. For example, two average girls that have had modest training, walking together in a bad area can probably take a Joe average scumbag that might try something. And when dealing with common assault, a woman does not aways need to 'win', she just needs to not 'lose', so some fighting skill is useful.

Don't forget the psychological factor as well. Men tend (remember that gender and humanity in general is a spectrum) to be more single target oriented, whereas women tend to be able to track multiple targets at once. Not an insignificant trait in combat.

I hate stories like these. Wail there are some outliers of females being stronger then the average male, and in some rare cases equal to or better then trained men. The simple fact of the matter is males are physically more capable then females in just about every aspect, bar the flexibility. Now what annoys me most about this story is not that she beat the lizard, but how she beat the lizard. I do BJJ, there was a active military, 3 years BJJ, 2 years karate female (still friends with btw) I didn’t hold a candle to her in experience, however, Never once has she ever bested me on the mat or in the ring. I didn’t even need to block her strikes in boxing or Mui-thy cause she had so little power behind her strikes. Now I have been beaten by women before but only in BJJ, I have never lost in a striking match to one. I bring this up because this story throws logic out the window and wants you to believe a 5ft woman out slugged a 12 ft lizard, BeCaUs VaGiNa StRoNk. I would be fine the story portrayed the fright as her out smarting the lizard by utilizing tactics and strategy to compensate for her physical lack of strength, then I would not be posting anything. But I hate these stories of a vary incapably physical woman defying physical and realistic capabilities for the sake of “WaMeN CaN dU aNy TiNg MeN cAn Du” Not they can’t. I don’t know. Maybe I’m just venting because of 3rd wave feminism sticking it’s nose in everything

She actually does use tactics here. If I read the story corectly she basically climbs the aliens body, puts him in a headlock and asphyxiates him until he passes out. She is not trying to out strong him. She outsmarts and out manuevers him.
