The original script was made in the 80's and it shows - I think with a different scriptwriter and a much better director the movie might have sold. The story was always brilliant, it's got some good scenes, but yeah it will never hold up as a whole movie and it's shame it got botched so badly imo.

Honestly I think it works perfectly, given the stark divide between the attolers way of living and the smokers, it’s clear the smokers embody all that was wrong with the old world ie, overcrowding, rampant consumerism, greed, etc. given it’s such an old world reference, it perfectly represents just who the deacon and his legion are, people holding onto the last remnants of the world thst once was instead of adapting to the new world like the attolers imo lol.
