This was actually a really unique take on the alien invasion narrative and I really like it. There are a few books where humanity gets invaded only to learn our nightmares are real...and they have actually been guarding us. Yes, they frighten us...but that fear trains us, makes us stronger and more sensitive to danger. The nightmares never killed us, never hurt us, only frightened us or showed us horrible visions. Then we get invaded, we are dying, entire countries and continents get wiped out. The nightmares stop holding back and manifest. Some take up stances to protect us...our worst fears acting like a wall between us and the invaders, others go on the offensive and hunt the invaders like in this story. The book I own (somewhere on my shelves...I own a lot of books >.>) ends with the nightmares choosing to stop hiding after ending the invasion and training us directly.

Too creepy for my taste usually, but appropriate for the Halloween time of year. And what an unusual form of counter attack! Having the monsters from our own ids go after the enemy after we were almost completely wiped out.👍👏🏆 What a novel plot twist.😄 Monsters from our ids is a reference to the movie "Forbidden Planet," and to the monsters that we carry around in our own minds. Were this true, these aliens would have no defense against this unknown and unseen enemy. After all, these are the monsters from our ids, not theirs.🤣 If you have kids who are scared of the boogymen under the bed or monsters in the closet, put pictures of Chuck Norris in those places. Several decades ago I saw him giving a demo in a ring set up inside a mall next to the Sears mall door. I think it was probably to help promote one of his movies. I'm not into martial arts movies, but I've seen a few. Although CN was still a fairly young man at the time I knew who he was, so I stayed a little while to watch him. I was very impressed with how nice he was to the audience, and I've never had a reason to change my mind. I've seen some of his movies and his TV show. I also like Jackie Chan, and have seen some of his movies too. I really like the CN jokes. They always get me laughing.🤣 Anyway, thanks for this surprising story.👍

@mitchellhasto300310 ай бұрын
Took me a bit to understand the reveal. At first with the build up I thought it might've been a few things. Could've been that in our desperation we cracked some kind of time dialation, we were moving around their ships too fast to see and things we interacted with were decaying at abnormal rates as we begun destroying them. Then I considered we finally became desperate enough to physically alter ourselves, mutating and bioengineering our bodies into monsters that would have their revenge for our dying race. ending reveal was interesting. my last theory before truly understanding was that humanity had embraced a satanic cult in exchange for its revenge and so we were now a hybrid of man and demon.

One of the most interesting phenomena to me have been simultaneous leaps forward, ideas about relativity, mathematics, even inventions sometimes have dozens of different and unrelated people discovering the same concepts in rapid succession. There's an idea I might write something with about how the collective unconscious would have been a great driver for humanity's advancement into the stars if only we weren't biologically built to chase and kill things, as that makes us fiercely guard our own separate and distinct identity and gives great weight to our fear responses because there _are_ threats that need to be watched for or guarded against. So what of our collective unconscious? Well, it produced those same things: distinct and separate entities, embodying a primal fear in themselves, and if one day we did manage a better understanding and use of the collective consciousness behind us we would manifest these things into existence and _mostly_ aim them at the enemy.

Reminds me of this one fanfiction of Mass Effect and Fate/Type-Moon series where the Batarians invade Earth to make them slaves. Bombing the planet was the single worse thing they could've done because, in Fate, the planets have consciousness. Because they hurt Earth, it called to its siblings for help and basically the entire solar system was now gunning for the Batarian fleet. And ground side, Earth and the Collective Consciousness of Humanity started spawning every heroic and legendary figure with all their magical, mountain cleaving powers to bare. Fast forward 100 years or so, humanity strikes the Batarian homeworld with a vengeance, but not with magic, or guns. Instead, they released every spirit that died during the invasion and they're hungry for flesh and vengeance. It was a great read.

@frogger2011ify10 ай бұрын
Spheres transfer force evenly across the surface. It also would be useless because of what you described if it had a central point of physical attachment so you would just use armour. I imagine that a shield generator would work by affecting the quantum state of electrons, I also imagine it would do this with some sort of wave and could probably be protected and targeted quite easily. The current tech hurdle to this is we don't really know what electrons really are. Applied physics would describe them as a particle but without having physically seen that to be the case but measurements support this. Also is the fact that measurements also support electrons being more of a cloud then a single point without this having been physically observed as well
