I was wondering when we'll see this. Now I'm off to watch all 4 episodes. :D Thanks! Your FRS is one of the best looking cars. I like the fact that you left the stock steering wheel. I'm not a huge fan of those tiny aftermarket steering wheels. That M4 bimmer looked nice too, but bimmers always look nice even stock.

+Kyle LaJoye definitely a sketchy way to start off the week. We dodged a bullet on that one. Switching back to the stock shift knob helped since it gave us the feel and weighting we were used to. We'll master shifting with the bigger/heavier Raceseng knob in the off-season :)

Regarding shifting into the wrong gear: I did that in my GT86 on track a few weeks ago - went from 5th to 2nd instead of 5th to 4th, at 90 mph. Ended with me crashing into a barrier lol video on our channel if you want to laugh at my mistake

what driving schools do you recommend? cause it says that time attack drivers must have training.
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
+Joe Da Silva since Ontario-1500 is run by some of the key personnel from the Ontario Time Attack series, I would think taking the OTA driving school would be a great start. That way you get to know the people behind the event and their school will be on one of the tracks used in ON1500 so you'll gain valuable seat time that way too. Plus the OTA school is always very well run, so you will get a lot out of it, I'm sure.
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
+Speed Academy our friend Carl at Perry Performance in Montreal also runs an excellent school that will qualify you for a full race license and it's very well priced for a race school. Pete and I have both done that school so can say from first hand experience it's top notch. www.perryautolaval.com/ase-lapping-club/aisa-academy/
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
+Speed Academy the Bridgestone Racing Academy at Mosport/Canadian Tire Motorsports Park is a world-class school, but it's also more expensive than the OTA or AISA schools suggested above. But the BRA school does have the advantage of using their Formula cars instead of your own car, should you wish to avoid putting added wear and tear on your own car. Plus their Formula cars are just a hoot to drive. Hugely fun and very professionally run program.

That Autocross course looks nice but the location looks scary. you have a nice guard rail along one side, at the finish you could spin into a stationary van or the next competitor.
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
+Mike Woo definitely not an ideal lot for autocrossing. It was really tight and a bit sketchy, as our buddy Aaron from Vibrant Performance can attest (he had a bit of a run-in with a ditch, haha).

Why did you guys did not enter two cars, frs and the s2000? Is it expensive. I think it would be interesting to see how the s2000 will do. May be next year when you guys have 500k subscription.
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
+aaguirre123 We would need double the drivers! And it's an expensive event to run too. We don't have that kinda loot right now haha.
@aaguirre1239 жыл бұрын
If you have time can you tell us the different classes of cars racing in the Ontario 1500 and its requirements for its class?
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
+aaguirre123 two main classes, Stock and Modified. Stock is very restricted, basically just allows tires (140 tread wear or higher), brakes, a few other very minor mods and that's it. Modified captures everything else, with both Stock and Modified subdivided based on MSRP of the vehicle and engine displacement. We were in Modified 4, which is for cars worth less than $65k and with engines under 3.5-liters of displacement. This was the most populated class in the event with 6 teams in it (both FR-S's, the Miata, both STIs, and the CRX).
@aaguirre1239 жыл бұрын
+Speed Academy in the modified class can you have a swapped engine within the 3.5L limit?
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
+aaguirre123 Yup!
@ScottMerrihew9 жыл бұрын
Just curious.. Is the stock steering wheel a preference or a requirement?
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
+Scott Merrihew It's a preference. We love the grip, size and feel of it so we thought why not keep it. Although, Dave does have trouble getting in and out of the car so a quick release one would be handy. :)

What engine oil are y'all running in the BRZ?
@speedacademy8 жыл бұрын
+Peter Grooms for race events like this we run Valvoline Pro-V. It's a high zinc motorsport oil that really protects the bearings exceptionally well. However, it's not recommended for street cars since the high zinc content is hard on the catalytic converter, so for street use we switch to a high quality synthetic that's compatable with modern emissions systems, so any off-the-shelf synthetic in the correct weight for the engine.
@jdm_jadon9 жыл бұрын
Are you running fortune auto 510? What brakes do you have on it?
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
+Jadon Ghereben Nope, we're running KW Clubsports on the FR-S. Same coilovers as we ran on it last year for Targa Newfoundland. These things are indestructible! We've got Fortune Auto 510's on our FD RX-7, though, and should have a track test video on that car soon-ish.

Does toyo r1r fit the street or only race tires?
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
+Sebastian Sosnowski They are street tires. Most people use them for street driving with occasional track use. They're great in both the dry and wet which makes them ideal for any sports car.
@sebastiansosnowski14359 жыл бұрын

@gusbisbal98039 жыл бұрын
I have never driven an 86, I would have thought that it had a rev limiter
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
+gus bisbal It certainly does, you can see Dave hits it a few times actually but when you mis-shift the rev-limiter which is controlled by fuel or spark is overcome with mechanical force hence why an engine can be over revved with a mis shift. Make sense?
@gusbisbal98039 жыл бұрын
damn I didn't know that. I thought it was controlled off of the ECU and actual RPM, what a terrible system not the approximation of RPM. For an engine saving system that is not great.
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
+gus bisbal The ECU does control the rev-limiter usually through spark or fuel, like I mentioned but there is no way to control a mis-shift, no car manufacturer can protect someone from putting a transmission into a lower gear and letting out the clutch to spin the engine too high.
@gusbisbal98039 жыл бұрын
Speed Academy Ahh of course, driven by the wheels not the crank. I get you
