Wayne Rooney led England to a famous victory in Glasgow with two second-half strikes, as the Three Lions extended their winning streak to six.
The captain netted a header just after the break, adding to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s first-half goal, before wrapping up the victory late on after Scotland had been given a lifeline through Andy Robertson’s effort.
His goals, the 45th and 46th of his career, edged him to within three of Sir Bobby Charlton's record - and put the icing on an excellent start to the season for Roy Hodgson’s men.

It's very interesting to see the comments from the Scottish. These games meant so much to the Scots, all the hype beforehand, the level of support and vocal chorus of hatred before kick off. But what I find most amusing is that despite losing home and away, the Scottish try to make out it was somehow a good result for the Scottish, with claims that the Scottish embarrassed the English and these games now meant nothing to Scotland!Could you imagine any Scotland result here? They would have made movies about it!

I will be watching on tv in 2017 when jack wilshere gets his o.b.e. for playing a crucial role in helping England win the previous summers euros; ive been telling anyone who will listen that jack is englands best player to come (bar injury)-no I haven't forgotten mr rooney/shaw/llalana or welbeck but study this game above and see that wilshere plays a pivotal role in the 1-3 victory with his passing vision,pace and natural skill... (some say jacks a throwback to gazza,or other exalted players of yore but id say hes got the potential to top the lot!!!-and hes young!...-I CANT WAIT FOR EURO 2016!!!)

I used too also until I came face-to-face with the unbridled hostility and gloating of Scottish fans revelling in England's exit ffrom the World Cup. Secondly the other home nations NEVER support England, on the contrary they can't wait for us to lose, so why should we support them? They are just another foreign team we have to beat.

The seperate national football teams of the British Isles have existed since long before FIFA existed with Scotland vs England the oldest international fixture in football. They've always sought to maintain their independent teams and FA's and always will. Olympics is a little different since it's not so tied in with national identity, though if you asked the Scots and Welsh they'd probably want their own teams there as well (but then they wouldn't benefit from British funding and wouldn't win anything).

Scotlands last goal in a major tournament was by Gordon Durie (I think!) against Denmark in 1998. 1998!!!! Pull your finger out scotland for gods sake, give your brilliant fans something to cheer about. +Mark Sims I agree. I'm Scottish by the way. I was so pessimistic before the most recent match against England that I didn't even watch it. I felt pretty certain we were going to lose heavily, and we did. Sterling missed a sitter so it should've been 4-0. England beat Scotland more heavily than they beat Malta which says a lot about how awful we've become. I've got a feeling there will be a record low attendance for the Slovenia match at Hampden, because of the run of bad results which stretches back two years and because (against probably every Scotland fan's wishes) Gordon Strachan still has his job. Our last World Cup goal was in a 1-1 draw against Norway which I remember seeing... I was 8 years old!

Has Kk If I could compare the Isle of Skye, or the stunning beaches of Harris, or the spectacular Glen Coe to lets say, the Yorkshire dales, or Birmingham....yeah, no contest is it really. Many English won't have a clue about these places as they've never set foot in Scotland so they're not really in any position to comment either way are they! The Scots gave the modern world to you and this is the thanks we get. Our football team aren't on the same level as England, but you have nearly 10 times the population pool in which to select a team. With all that said, you can have your precious football team (which is shite in the grand scheme of things anyway) and we'll appreciate all the other beautiful aspects of our country.
