My wife has a 67 plate Evoque Autobiography 300PS petrol and it’s been lovely. Only 26,000 miles so far but zero problems other than water ingress into reversing camera. It dries out on its own but every winter it fogs up again. We had an older one previously and sold it only because we went abroad for a couple of years. That was almost identical and no faults over three years.

I ran an XF from new to over 100k miles - no issues. We have had an evoque from new - done 60k miles - no issues - just ordered another one. I had a merc e class - perpetually in the garage to try and solve issues - also a bm 5 series with huge issues - you can be lucky or unlucky!! The one brand that seems to stand out for reliability is Lexus. I have it first hand from the owner of Lexus, Skoda and Peugeot dealer that literally the Lexus has virtually zero faults.

Had a MK1 and now the owner of a Mk2 brand new at 19 one of the first out, in fact a first edition. We have put 48,000miles without the car missing a beat. Heating and vent screen stayed blank for 1 journey other than that nothing. Beautiful comfortable car to drive and love every minute. Do people only go on forums to complain and the silent majority just get on with pleasure of driving and ownership?

In the interest of balance. I purchased my 69 plate with 6k miles from Land Rover (2.5 D180 SE). It was 18 mths old and I keep it regularly serviced by L/R. I have experienced none of the problems that have been mentioned. In fact my one and only quibble would be that the SatNav isn’t the most reliable that I’ve used. Other than that I love the vehicle.

My wife wanted to buy one of these a few months ago, but thankfully I convinced her that she would not enjoy battling with our local JLR dealer, as they have a terrible reputation. She has since bought a Volvo XC40 and loves it! Great video and I hope it saves 'potential' Evoque owners the trauma of owning one.

Just got rid of my 69 plate evoque had it from brand new 100 miles on the clock. Serviced it regularly, we did have a issue with the DPF which happened just out of the warranty period but thankfully Land Rover Huddersfield sorted on a good will gesture. Other then that it’s been a good lil car, we put 30,000 on it in the end. It’s gone now onto the next

Ive had my 2013 SD4 since 2017 with 45k miles. I've been lucky. I'm reaching 95 going on to 100k miles. Its sublime, I've only had minor service jobs. The biggest problem is the door locking mechanism failing. It doesn't effect how it drives, I'm getting it fixed by my local Land Rover specialist John Kemp near Wymondham. If you want an Evoque, get a first gen.

I bought a 6 month old Evoque (Diesel) in Feb 2020 (just before Covid struck) and over the next two years did 22,000 miles trouble free in it. Brilliant car but was a bit too small for us so I part-exchanged it for a Jaguar F-pace in May 2022 and the trade in allowance was only 2,000 pounds less than I paid for the car from the same JLR dealership. My youngest daughter has recently (mid Sept 2023) taken delivery of a new Evoque Hybrid and it's spent six week in the garage awaiting a replacement battery.

I accidentally bought a reliable discovery 5 HSE lux TD6 2018 with 50000 miles and 6 owners. Had parking sensor issue when I collected and an issue with rear window regulator. Both replaced under warranty. Honestly Since then it’s been great. 1 year 12000 miles later and it never misses a beat. I bought knowing that it could have issues and be unreliable but I needed the size 1080litres of boot with 5 seats in place. I think main issue is it’s 1/3 cars has an issue whereas with my Porsche before it was more like 1/30. My experience with cars is as long as they are used regularly and given a run every now and then. You look online and cars do 250000miles. Time will tell but planning to keep for a 2nd year which is rare for me. Honesty I would buy a Range Rover with miles and look for one which the owner had been the same for 2-3 years before. Likely issues would have been picked up and fixed

It seems like all the technology issues could be firmware based. The sad thing is, we are being bombarded with technology in this day and age that is so unreliable and causes more frustration than its worth bothering with. This is probably why pre 1995 vehicles are increasing in value because people are reverting back to the older vehicles because the technology of these years is proven and tested.Yet the Japanese seem to get it right more often than not so why that, this needs to be asked.

the Japanese cars are based on the tech that is previously released in europe but they take more time to work it through and bring it to market later and make it more reliable

The early Ingenium engined diesels had bad oil dilution issues (about 2016-2019) needing oil changes every few thousand miles (LR paid for the extra oil changes for 5 years/50K miles to push the problem away from warranty claims!). Great video. As an owner of a number of JLR ‘cars’, even though I adore the aesthetics, they are the most unreliable cars I’ve ever encountered. And on top of this, the company are unresponsive, conniving and dishonest. Their dealers will lie and try to con you out of £thousands. I scrapped an almost 6 year old XF because, after £10k+ of warranty repairs, the DPF inherent fault kicked in and destroyed the engine. Full Jaguar service history, I might add. Jaguar took no liability and wanted over £12k to fix it. New engine and both turbo’s. (could have been a lot more but I just walked out when the manager got to £12k) Their cars don’t have little niggles like some makes, JLR cars have life changing faults that, unless you’re Elon Musk, will ruin your bank accounts. Admire them but for your sanity’s sake, do not buy one.
@hedydd2
@hedydd2 Жыл бұрын
You might get lucky but the odds are that your experience of the car and of JLR will be repeated. They have not changed since the early 1980’s. I think the unreliability and particularly the attitude to customer service and their customers is handed down from generation to generation. After three Range Rovers, a Discovery and four Land Rovers, I finally saw the light and could sleep at night with a relatively safe bank account. At one point I ran a OneTen, Discovery and a Range Rover at the same time and I spent a disproportional amount of time just keeping these roadworthy. I changed two of them and a Mitsubishi Shogun for three Nissan Terrano one day and had three glorious trouble free years.
@BionicRusty

@@hedydd2 One at a time was bad enough with nightmares, but three of them would give me a breakdown. 😱 We did have two together but only for a very short time, an S-Type and a Discovery. We sold the Discovery pretty quick after buying the Jaguar. I would only have one at a time. 😬 The absolute only one of either marque that I’d buy now is an old 90/110 as, as you know, they’re bolt on/bolt off. I’d love a Series lll as a project because that’s a trip down memory lane of happy days but unlikely now.

We've had two Evoques and both suffered from DPF issues which put the car into limp mode. Both times Land rover didn't want to know and basically said it's down to your driving style, you need to be doing high speed long journeys regularly to clear the filter. Funny how neither dealer mentioned it at the point they sold them to us , and we found out that it's a common criticism of Land rover dealers and the company itself they don't want to let the public know how unreliable and poorly designed these expensive piles of crap actually are . AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
@matthewsalmon8194
@matthewsalmon8194 Жыл бұрын
Its true of many cars - I did a fair chunk of motorway miles in my previous car (a Ford) and it used the regeneration - but the DPF still ended up getting so clogged up to the point to needing to replaced twice in the 10yrs I owned it (not from new). It is a little bit down to you to know that - as all diesel cars clog up eventually as its a dirty fuel . From what Ive seen Landrovers are well engineered and your comment is a bit unfair - I certainly would have had one over my previous car any day
@Mk1Male
@Mk1Male Жыл бұрын
I would AVOID YOUR POST AT ALL COSTS. Every single diesel vehicle that has a DPF needs to take regular runs above a certain speed so the DPF regeneration can do it's job. This is not high speed long journeys as you claim, but just following the manufacturer's guidelines. How on earth can you have had TWO Evoques and not known this? Are you really saying you bought a second after having issues with the first. BS.

Pity about the Evoques giving LR a bad name, which were the replacement for the LR Freelander 2 which still today is a very reliable 2nd hand SUV with a great reliable 2.2 diesel engine,I have had mine 11 years now, 80'000 miles only had new brakes, tyres, annual services, one oil cooler rubber pipe, timing belt kit in 11 years and just as reliable as my previous 2010 SUV Toyota RAV 4. But my Freelander 2 LS has a better sound system with factory fitted subwoofer, plush leather seating, nicer interior and far better off road capabilities and the paintwork is fab not one blemish chip or corrosion on a 2013 plate it can go to my grave with me modern diesels engines are adblue chocked up DPF crap. LR Freelander 2 - 2,2 Diesel has nil problem with short journeys, once a month kick its ass along the motorway 5th gear at 70mph for 10 ish miles job done.

Interesting and informative video. To add balance I had a first generation Evoque and since 2019 bought a second generation. Both D180 and both cars have proved extremely reliable. Now at 35k and only issue has been front door rubbing which is a known problem. I don’t do short journeys so maybe that helps but in all honesty I use a great dealership in Duckworths which ensures it gets its software updates and looks after customers.

I had a Jaguar F-Type (same company) with those exact electrical issues. Turns out, along the passenger side frame kind of under the edge of the seat/where you step over to get in and out, there was a short in the wires. There was a support or bracket of some sort near the harness/conduit that managed to wear a hole in the harness and one of the wires in the harness. Randomly the bracket would touch the cut wire’s bare metal and short the system. Going down the road and it would suddenly have these exact problems with the screen and sound. Other lights would flicker.

Have these improved any now by 2022-23-24? Is the Sport having the same issues? Tyres are 19" yes? Can you put the 22" Sport tyres on the Evoque? (Sport is actually 23" for 2024) How come all new cars in GB get 45-65MPG but in the States it only gets 19mpg City / 21mpg HWY vs UK MPG? Saw this with the Benz's too. Different emissions? Or cylinders/HP? Spec-wise they appear the same for 2023-2024 models. Just don't understand why most cars in the UK get double the gas mileage? Also if you look on several car sites asking which is the most reliable year... ironically thru 2020 they list the 2017 and 2019 as "most reliable"? I don't get how after 13 years outside of the old Discoveries made for the Sahara that Rover can't get their act together? It's also cheaper to buy in the US for some reason. Unsure why unless it's VAT vs ,US sales 6% vs VAT 20% tax? BTW; saw another reviewer say comparing a 2022 Evpoque vs a version 2 "Sport" (£112k!!) said "taxes" per year were about £100 quid less for this model. Was he talking about tax disc? Or what other tax is annual? Why do they demand more taxes after sales or VAT tax? Spent 9 yrs in London and everything has an extra price attached to it. Can only imagine now with interest rates and inflation skyrocketing why a decently equipped Sport is $135K (USD) here (2023) and the Evoque is around $68k equally equipped. Thoughts?

Yes reliability is well known to be dreadful, but people still buy them for the brand name, and when they work they are very good. JLR have no real incentive to improve if they still sell well. Wow , what a car - looks similar to the Evoque but no problems so far at 28k miles. 1.5 petrol turbo, 160 bhp. And Japanese reliability.👍

I chopped my Evoque in after 2 years. I had only had the car for six months and it had £5k of warranty work done on front suspension and alternator. Insurance costs high, running costs high, reliability low. Buy the extended warranty as there are no cheap repairs on one of these things. My mark 1 was far superior, 89000 miles of trouble free motoring. Now got a Toyota as I wanted a brand with better reliability.

most people that have big problems are second or third owners who buy a high mileage cheap Land Rover and try to run it on a shoe string. these cars are expensive when new and they should be serviced properly.

We had 2 Discoveries, the second one was to replace the really bad first one but changed under warranty. They are beautifully designed, but badly built with very poor customer service. I've just ordered my 7th New BMW, I'm replacing an x5 with 140,000 on the clock and all I have changed is the oil, tyres and brake. I've ordered an x7, I wish I had the time to own a Range Rover, but can't face visiting the dealer every other week with faults

On 2nd evoque, I would only buy the 2.0d. Never had any of the problems outlined. As a mechanic however I would not advise buying the diesel for short journeys its just not meant to be. Also re the ad blu I or we have never had a problem with Ad blu. But you can only tell it as it is. Final thing, like all L/R vehicles they need servicing and lots of care they are not designed for the daily school run thats for sure. Lol

Had a 69 petrol one on lease, lovely car but dealers were crap. It started sounding like a bag of spanners after about a year. Went to the dealers x 2 and they wanted £180 to check it out despite it obviously being a warranty issue. Luckily when it went in for service I met a Sevice Guy with a bit of sense. He said it was probably anti roll bar bushes. they actually kept stock as it was quite a common problem. Sure enough he was right and they were changed under warranty. Lovely car let down by bad (except for one guy who knew what he was talking about) backup, Wouldn't buy one that's why I leased.

My wife drives a plugin hybriid Evoque and so far her main complaint is with the frequent over-the-air software updates that keep returning all her personal settings back to to default....... when I hear a scream I know LR has just 'updated' her car 🤣🤣

That’s because it’s basically the same engine. The block is manufactured from a three cylinder right up to the six cylinder straight. Petrol or diesel it’s all the same platform. Personally, I don’t find the 2 L that bad just a timing chain is crap on the early engines and using 0W 30, combined with DPF is useless after it’s run in just switch over to 5W 30

The DPF issue is due to the architecture of where the DPF sits in the Evoque. I have read a specialist engineers article about why the DPF does not function correctly as it is not in the optimum place to operate. Therefore some owners who even do long journeys suffer DPF issues, where JLR keep copping out stating driver error e.g. only doing short journey's. In 2017 the updated software to all diesel vehicle from 2015 ingenium engines to set of 'service required' light when oil dilution was above about 4/5% (can't remember actual figure) if you dip checked oil & found it to be above correct level then you have oil dilution & needs to be changed. The incontrol app is helpful to see soot levels & ad blue levels in advance.

We have a 2017 series 1 from new that this last year has been a nightmare. Water leak from the AC system that took 4 visits by various garages to resolve. New Injectors and now a new DPF. Without doubt the short journeys I think are the problem. For all that it’s comfortable and my missus loves it. 12:07 I’ve had two Jaguar XE’s with the same Diesel Ingenium and all on Ad Blue. At 2 years old one had done 58k. The second ( best car I’ve ever had) 70k at 3 years. Between the Jags I had a Disco Sport that did 50k in 2 years and now a Velar which is not 18 months old yet but has done 35k. With all my cars I use for work I’m convinced due to the mileage, they have been faultless. Just need to use them - a lot.

Well I seriously hope I dont run into that main issue at the lights , I am in the process of changing from a very very troublesome I-Pace to a 2020 first edition petrol evoque. My I-Pace has been in the service department at JLR now for the past 3 and a half months .. they are at this point unable to fix it , but have said its going to be a 20hr labour charge when they are able to change the main body harness ... so I am taking the hit financially and changing cars. I just hope I dont jump from the frying pan into the fire. My issue with the I-Pace , bank of errors suddenly on start up that now wont go away consisting of , reduced power mode , forward alert disabled , AEB braking disabled , high voltage battery alert , drive train alerts etc etc. Cant put the car in park , reports speed to high for park when stationary .. flashes the park light constantly so wont go to sleep and slowly drains the battery because of this. Cant engage the parking brake but when the cars off , it will randomly engage it with no visual que .. so when you go to drive off , it tries to move but the brake is stuck on .. cant use the electronic park to then disengage the brake .. but just sitting there it will randomly disengage the parking brake. They thought it was software updates at first , then a wheel speed sensor , then the wheel speed sensor wiring loom that goes to all 4 wheels , then the service department had to confer with JLR techs at the factory who gave them a list of things to try and now after all that they say its the main body harness which will take 10 weeks to order and 20 hours labour to fit requiring the whole drivetrain to be removed and refitted. All this on a car that is JUST out of warranty and only has 10300 miles on the clock .. I have had a shocking experience with it ... I would just walk away from the brand but I cant wait for the car to be fixed and the only way I can get rid of it and only lose a few grand , is to part ex it with them so I am moving back to petrol and trying an Evoque .. so as I said , I really hope this unable to pull off issue isnt my next major problem.

The 2.0 diesels have a balancer shaft issue where they need replacing. I’ve seen a TSB where if they need replacing then they get the original part numbers fitted and if they fail again they fit the revised parts. Not great. When I had mine it went in for the balancer shaft replacement but when the techie started the work he discovered that it was the turbo at fault and not the balancer shafts. All fixed under warranty
