It's been a year since you posted this comment. Have you figured out yet that you are the Karen in the wrong in this situation? I don't have faith in you so I'll explain it. All autozones are built the same. They all have that same area surrounded by those waist high racks with impulse purchases on them in front of the registers. This area is where a "line" should form. This "line" consists of people waiting to be helped. This is what normal people realize especially when there's a sign indicating that's what you're supposed to do. So when YOU waltz up to a random register before you're called any workers assigned to another register are going to naturally assume that you're already being helped by another worker or else you wouldn't be at the register because no one would have called you up. So that worker you speak of saw the first person waiting in line and called the first person in line. Autozone is a yearly billion dollar business, you're not. It's a well oiled machine in how it works, you're not. So next time don't randomly go storming up to a register and expecting them to read your mind that you hadn't been helped yet when you're the one out of line.

I can tell you, it is hit or miss these days regardless of where parts come from. I have owned a repair business for over 14 years. i spend over 50K a year in parts and source them from just about everywhere. Alot of the parts stores source parts from the same warehouses. I have failures with all of them lately. I buy probably 5 figures from Rock Auto a year and had a few of the Remy Reman alternators fail. They don't make the parts either so it is still hit or miss. If you don't own a business, you are only buying a few starters or alternators in a lifetime. I buy them almost every week so the odds of a failure go way higher. The best I have found are Brand new TYCs, Rebuilt Denso or Bosch starters and alternators. No failures on those in over a decade. They rebuild their own here in the US to OE specs and not rebuilt in Mexico like most. Even the new ones in most parts stores are built in Mexico.
@Trainwheel_Time4 жыл бұрын
@@marcsmith3881That may very well be. However, the price difference can be huge. For example , I just replaced shocks, shock mounts, rear wheel bearings and rear stabilizer bar links on my mazda. The parts from rock are Monroe shocks, moog mounts, mevotech stabilizers and Timkin bearing and hub assembly's. All with warrantys and so on. The parts from zone and advance were whatever the cheapest they quoted... some of which I'd never heard of before and would have had to wait a week for them to come in. My days of buying at autozone and such are over. Even with 25 bucks shipping I was still way ahead and with better quality parts. As for alternators and such? It beats the thermal register printers that autozone uses, because those thermal receipts fade away to literally completely blank white after a number of years, even if stored away from sun. You have a lifetime warranty but better remember your phone # and be in their system, but also, "some" things they used to sell with a lifetime warranty, no longer have one, so your receipt is your only proof it had the lifetime warranty when you bought it. This is why I always make a scanned digital copy of receipts, which is not only for warranty purposes but if I were to sell a vehicle and my maintenance records are full of blank receipts, I can give the new owner the digital copies.
@CommodoreFan645 жыл бұрын
I'm a long time computer tech, and I can say for a basic printer the dot matrix printers work, and they are cheap to run compared to an Ink Jet, or even a lot of Laser printer, and most important they can handle the special paper where you get the top white copy, and they keep the pink and/or yellow copy for their records, and as others have said they last longer then a thermal receipt. you can still buy Okidata Dot Matrix printers all day long, and the tech is much much older then 1981. I use to work for a tractor dealer in the early 00's and yes we used Dot Matrix printers back then as well. also if you are getting jams in something like an Okidata dot matrix printer, you need to check your ribbon, and the print head might need cleaning.

Owned my own independent auto parts store for 35 years. 1973-2008. I hope Autozone's quality has improved. I used to rebuild starters and alternators. Witnessed many an auto zone rebuilt that was just a junkyard product that was sandblasted and put on the shelve and sold as a rebuilt. Open it up and you could see that it was just been cleaned on outside. I am retired now and Autozone is the last resort and always stick to other than their private brand. NAPA is higher but quality is much better. Also Advance is better too. Hired a former Autozone manager and he said that their Autozone store would send back 8 totes a week of defecting products. That's in a small town of just 10,000. I'm from Tennessee. Oreilly's is ok for some things.

Scotty, I love your channel, but I gotta ask: The city you live in allows you to work on vehicles at your house? I'm really jealous! A few years ago the spider fuel injector assembly on my old silverado went out. Thankfully I was at home in my driveway when it died. I bought the parts and got to work. Either some A-hole called the city, or code enforcement just happened to be driving by, but they were all up my rear end within an hour or so. They rattled off codes that it's illegal to work on vehicles in a residential area, blah, blah, blah and told me I needed to stop right now and I wouldn't be cited. I asked them how much the ticket would be. Well, the price of the fine was cheaper than the cost of having a tow truck take the truck to a shop and the cost of a mechanic, so I laughed and picked the wrench back up. I was cited, fixed my vehicle, went to court and the judge threw the ticket out. Some people are just ridiculous.

A year later the second one goes out so I replaced that one. About a year after that the 3rd one went out! When I took it back to replace it for the lifetime warranty, the guys at the O'Reilly gave me hell. "Why are you having to replace the distributor every year or so?" I said because they keep going out! They're not rebuilt properly. "Well if this happens again we'll need proof the distributor is defective. " okay, next time it craps out I'll have you come tow me. I love rock auto. I have been buying from rock auto for years and the only time I ever received the wrong part was my fault! I now have 45 magnets from rock auto.
@Garth20115 жыл бұрын
Rockauto takes someone more experienced to get the correct part. Not everyone is able to go through the many parts offered and choose front or rear or right or left. Not many know the "lingo" to parts and so forth so they go to these places to have that counter person do it. We use rockauto in many cases as the parts are the same and get here rather fast for much less than "corporate discount auto parts" houses.
@ronbertka5 жыл бұрын
@Bruce Lee u have to price it out. I find most parts are a lot cheaper. But when pricing don't forget to get the shipping estimate. Also if you have a core, it takes a while to get back. That said I have been able to get Auto zone to come down on price close to Rock, just so I can get the part that day

I went to an Autozone years ago to buy a can of Graphic Red paint for a Dodge truck. They didn't have it on the shelf, but it was listed in their book. I asked them to order it for me and they said they couldn't because it is not a color they normally carry. I told the guy it's listed in the book hanging right from the shelf of spray paint. He said their stock is automatically refilled by the automated system and if it isn't something that they normally carry he couldn't even order it. I went to Oreilly's and told the guy behind the counter what I needed, and he asked how many cans you want I told him, and he said they'll be here tomorrow around 11:00am. I went back the next day and there they were at the counter waiting on me. I've not been back to an Autozone since. I always go to Oreilly's.

I think Napa Auto Parts is the best place to go for parts. Had a bad experience with a rebuilt alternator that was advertised as "new" at O'reilly's, I was young so I didn't know any better, but it only lasted about 3 months and I never went back. And, I only go to Autozone for things I can't normally find at a place like Walmart, like motorcycle oil and Techron. I would never buy parts there.
@samanthatrost83475 жыл бұрын
Thats because rebuilt is basically new. The inside is completely new, hardware is completely new, the only recycled part is the metal casing.

I feel ya about O'Reilly. I went in one a long time ago when I had my truck and needed light bulb for it. Think it was a headlight bulb. Anyway. I went and found the bulb, went to check out at the register and no associate would help me. It wasn't that busy. No one asked if I needed help or said they would be with me in a minute. I saw employees coming in and out of the stock room and they looked at me standing there and NOTHING! So I just put my light on the counter and walked out. NEVER again will I shop at ANY of their stores. I know that there might be some that are good but, I love AUTO ZONE. Always had a good experience with them and they've always been friendly. Oh! The light that I was gonna purchase from O'Reilly, I went and got at AUTO ZONE. When I checked out, I told the guy checking me out that he was friendly and that they've always been nice so I'm gonna by a hat from them. I did! I bought an AUTO ZONE hat.

@Randomizzer, I remember going to the Chief’s Auto Parts in Upland,Ca in the 70’s and 80’s to get parts for my ‘71 Pinto and later my ‘84 Nissan mini truck. The staff knew their stuff and the parts, new and rebuilt, were top notch and affordable. Amazing that they were owned by Southland Corp., who also owned the 7/11 convenience stores.
