The XV80 Camry looks great and beside the Toyota eCVT has nothing to do with how most CVTs are. If you take the Toyota eCVT apart you'd see uses a planetary gearset with a couple of electric motors-generators and actual gears, but no belts, no pulleys, no torque converters, no multi-plated clutches and whatever other crap they usually have. I mean it is indeed a infinitely variable ratio transmission that could be adjusted continuously (hence the CVT in the name), but there's not much in common there besides the name. They've solved the MG (motor-generator) and power inverter cooling issues ages ago. Yes, you get a complicated system with a lot of physiological fluids, if you will, for the powertrain to worry about - the ICE oil, the hybrid transmission oil, the engine coolant & the power inverter coolant. But if you do change them on time and drive conservatively - the hybrid Toyota will work for you. There is a reason taxi fleets around the world love the hybrid Toyotas.

The new Landcruiser 300 series V6 diesel twin turbo has conrod bearing failures reported here in Australia. Particularly if they are towing at higher speeds for long periods. An engine rebuilder shows a video comparing the bearing sizes between the old V8 twin turbo and the new engine. You should read more about engine torque and efficiency. The V8 is one of the least efficient designs in automotive history. Instead of thinking about impressing hot rod guys, consider the economical and reliability possibilities. A 2 liter 3 cylinder engine in a 2000 pound compact FWD truck would get 45mpg and have a range no Tesla will come close to. We haven't ever had a correct car industry because EPA didn't have enough influence. Influence from actual engineers. Let go of the V8 fantasies. It's kinda on the verge of a rainbow 🌈 golf clubhouse group showers kinda thing to still obsess about V8 and big displacement.
@MotoStylus-z8r
@MotoStylus-z8r 9 сағат бұрын
@@Greg-io1ip I'd like to see the 3-cylinder do a million miles over 20 years like the old Toyota UZ. The point of the 1UZ-FE/2UZ-FE/3UZ-FE and to an extent the URs that replaced the UZs was durability and low-rpm torque rather than maximizing thermal efficiency. A A25A-FXS is far more efficient (41.2% ECEC according to Toyota), but there is no way a hybrid car with the A25A-FXS (e.g., a hybrid highlander or a sienna) will outlast a Tundra/TLC/Sequoia with the UZ. How much sense it makes if you want to drive, say, 1M miles, really depends on how much the fuel costs. If the fuel is cheap it makes sense to have drive the said miles with an "eternal" V8. If the fuel is expensive it makes sense to use 2-3 dynamic force hybrids. The new turbocharged Toyota & Nissan large suvs/trucks that had something like 5.6 or 5.7L V8s in their previous generations will be competing, with, say, the Ford trucks that still have the NA V8s as one of the options. Time will sure tell.
@jakedcrane8019
@jakedcrane8019 2 сағат бұрын
@@Greg-io1ip Efficiency is overrated. Long term reliability with performance is more important. Forced induction(turbocharging/supercharging) is totally unreliable, more complicated, requires more expensive care, maintenance & repairs. Production of naturally aspirated large displacement engines like V8 needs to continue forever. Dont even try to begin using climate change is as next reason because its fake.

Scotty, I took your advice and bought a 2022 Toyota Tacoma because it was the last one with the V6. I did not want the two turbo four-cylinder. Do you know of any issues that I might have with this truck? Thanks a lot for all your hard work, sir.

Got a 2023 v6 .. have a weird noise (rattle/knock) along some vibration that happens time to time very concerning. dealer can’t recreate the issue .. says it’s fine. seems to happen when going uphill and when gently accelerating but I can’t recreate it either just happens. Another thing less worry-some .. is the gear hunting but seems to get better over time maybe getting used to drivers patterns.

I feel that backing into a parking space is better as I saw the spot when I was driving to it, I saw the space had room for my rig, & when backing I can see with my mirrors both sides. My only is going too far back, & the camera solve that. When I return, I put it in drive & go. &, to be honest, I look for a drive through parking, so I don't even need to bake in, I drive in to park, then drive out. Thank you for your videos :-)

if you back into a parking space, you are more alert at that moment because you can see where you are going and any obstacles you will encounter - you concentrate on what you are doing.. Walk away and come back in two hours; now you can see and more apt to avoid an accident. Always try to park where you can drive forward when you leave.

I thought that the metal shavings reason was highly suspicious. Honda is also having main bearing failures in V6 engines with 80,000 to 100,000 miles!! My take on this problem maybe related to the low viscosity oil 0W20 and cam bearing clearances !

Currently I have an eleven year old Honda which I'm planning on keeping because of the current state of car manufacturing problems.

Smart man! Yes old and trusted reliable technology has been proven to work. No need to change it. Sadly almost everything from Toyota will be coming with stupid hybrid crap and tiny engines. They’ll lose significant market value once the Camry & Sienna start breaking down which is only a matter of time.

300k miles on a Tundra with no more than 15 MPG on average (that can easily become 10MPG while towing) is 20 000 gals of fuel worth around 3 times the purchase price of the 2007 Tundra (MSRP range between 9 and 15k USD if google is truthful) adjusted for inflation. Not that the modern Tundra is really worth it.

Your data about deaths from car in the US vs Europe is skewed, it's not the population size that matters, it's the drivers per capital that matter and the US has more than Europe so only naturally the US would have more deaths.

With $420,000 in retirement savings, diversifying into assets that historically perform well during inflationary periods, such as Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities (TIPS), commodities, or foreign currency assets, might help protect against potential dollar depreciation. Mech said I can just replace one if I wanted to and if another fails it would be in another 6 months to a couple years maybe… I said do em all and knocked off some labor anyway (aaa approved mechanic), and weeks before that an oil pan leak and switch… and in June had a bad radiator which also radiator was brittle.. anyways all fixed. The last major problem I had before all that was the alternator in 2016 I think.
