I had to have my transmission replaced at just over 198,000. The 6 speeds (2007-2014) are known to have bad torque converters and bad pumps. You must have gotten a 10 or above with that switch to 4 cylinder crap. The 07 must have been an all wheel drive or just a lemon because the motor is beast and as long as you upgrade the torque converter to a billet steel at about 130,000 miles that thing will last at least 300,000 miles on the low end. I just bought a 2001 4x4 Tahoe today for $2,000 in Portland, OR. 260,000 miles and that thing just purred during the test drive, suspension tight, shifted smooth, good acceleration going uphill and the original paint was pristine. All California/Oregon miles from original owner. No rust on the frame or exterior. Coming from the midwest, I was shocked. I'm super happy I found this gem. I'm gonna convert it into a camper/ski truck.

My 03 Tahoe had 171k miles on it and they still stoled it and stripped it down to the frame. Those SUVs are still very valuable and the most reliable SUVs on the road.

5.3's are bullet proof

Non-AFM Gen III 5.3's are bullet proof. From previous experience with Gen IV AFM 5.3 with a blown head gasket at 125000 miles, definitely not. AFM truly did ruin GM legendary engine long term reliability.

@Greg B Oh long story short. I did not take Scotty's advice and paid a garage to replace the head gaskets and remove the AFM lifters with standard lifters. They charged me for a dongle disabler. 3 months later, I complained of engine noise, after they reprogrammed the computer to disable AFM, suddenly I had no oil pressure. They concluded my engine was shot and wanted me to buy a new engine. I declined. 3 months after that, I consulted an GM engine specialist who guessed my problem. Bad valley cover. Another $500 to replace the gen 4 valley cover with a Gen 3 valley cover, I've had consisitantly good to high oil pressure ever since. Engine noise I originally complained about were bad engine mounts I replaced myself. 142000 miles and counting now. But $7500 over the last 14 months in repairs definitely qualifies my 07 GMC Sierra as a money pit. But not necessarily a never ending money pit.

@@davidpick1076 What is NON-AFM?

@@reempire888 Standard lifters without Active Fuel Management capabilities. There are videos that show how Active Fuel Management works. It isn't just simply shutting fuel off to 4 cylinders when it turns on.
