That's not big News at all my car can do 80mpg and averages about 70mpg (Non Freeway/ Motorway) UK 2015 Ford FOCUS 1.5 TDCi Zetec 120BHP (Manual Transmission) & I only paid £6200 for it with 32,000K Miles on the Clock and Full History and MOT. I paid that for it 3 years ago and now it's valued at £9,050. It has 45K Miles on it now and has only had one Issue since I owned it. That was a Replacement Clutch Kit. Not the actual DMF, just the parts that control it. The USA got totally conned by not have the TDCi Engines, they are in everything over here across the pond.

Hey Scotty. I have a 2013 Hyundai Sonata hybrid. Only 78k miles. But it has been the most trouble free car I have ever owned. Quite nice. However I am one who is anal about keeping up with periodic maintenance. I think that can be key to the longevity of any vehicle. I understand still, too, that there are. still are many that are crap. Oh and FYI, my Hyundai was built in South Korea. That could be a factor.

Bought my daughter a 2015 Hyundai Elantra years ago. Drove it up to 120,000 mi ran great. The only problem I would say it had was the rear brakes would wear out fast. Had to replace them three times versus the front only once. The only reason we got rid of it was because Hyundai contacted me and offered a trade value I couldn't pass up.

I bought the '23 Hybrid Elantra, it's a tight unit. All great so far, getting 50+ is sweet, I paid way more than a little over 20K though, it is the Limited but I'm not sure I could get any Elantra for low 20's. I have yet to see a '23 Elantra on the road, have seen 1 '22 Elantra, that's sort of nice. The Elantra N's would be real nice to have as a performance sleeper, but 2023, mpg rules.

I could open the hatch and put in a full 8ft 2x4 and close the hatch. This car had a 3 cylinder engine and carb, not fuel injected. Not the speediest but very wonderful transportation.

My first car when I turned 16 was a 2010 hyundai elantra. It was my dad's before he gave it to me, and between the both of us we put 145k miles on it over almost 14 years. Never once did I have to do anything besides normal maintenance, but it definitely was showing it's age and I decided to trade it in last week before it needed any major work. I think elantras are a perfect car for anyone to give their kid when they turn 16. They're easy to drive and maneuver and are cheap enough that you wont be as mad if your kid wrecks it.

I had a 2001 Toyota Echo that got 52 miles to the gallon. I wish I had never traded it in for a 2016 Ford Escape. Wish I had just kept it. Loved that little car. The only reason I got the Ford Escape was because a car seat wouldn't fit in the back seat unless the front seat was pushed all the way forward, making it impossible for a passenger to ride in the front. I only had a little over 72,000 miles on it too.

plenty of KIA-Hyundai here in England. Popular cars seemingly because they tick all the boxes, including that loooooooong warranty. However, lots of the smaller ones with heavy rust on the tailgate lips and rear end underneath. Engines don't stand up much past 100,000 miles either. Moral of that story is buy it new and get rid before the warranty expires. Don't buy second hand unless it's been really well looked after

I traded in a 2013 Santa Fe Sport 2.0T which did me great aside from little things around the 100k mark (windshield sprayer motors, door handle button, etc...). Prior to purchase, the biggest criticisms I found from people online were that they weren't fun to drive and that they were ugly. I didn't mind the drive or the look, so I said screw it and went for it bc it was a *decent* deal. We'll see though.

In 2020, I upgraded to a Sonata SE. Gets even better fuel economy on the highway than my Elantra at 45-50 mpg. Unfortunately though, I had to replace a thermostat at 24k. Right now I am at 43k with a check engine light due to the EGR. Kind of disappointed right now with the dealer network as it takes 2 weeks to even get an appointment. If Hyundai can improve their dealer network, I think their product would be a lot more compelling.

The car has sat for about 4 years now ever since he passed away, but I plan getting it back to working order and driving it for a long time. It takes $15-25 just to fill it up. I like the 1.8 in the Elantra. People say there bad bc of there engines but I like it a lot. It’s give us no issues. We keep up maintenance on it and everything.

Any decent mechanic knows that a smaller turbocharged engine working twice as hard will wear out faster. It will also get less real world gas mileage which is a fact since the engine is working harder. I have a 2.5l Mazda 3. It is the best car I have ever owned. Scotty back in the late 80s early 90s Honda made a CRXHF that got 52 miles to the gallon on the highway and I believe around 36 in the city. And the funny thing is that it was carbureted I believe the United States outlawed them. 🤪
@johnharvey7913
@johnharvey7913 Жыл бұрын
I had one, an '88. I actually got 55 mpg overall, 60-plus highway. Not carbureted, fuel injected. The government did not outlaw them, Americans did not want want to buy them! Honda only sold 10,000 a year of the HF, about half as many as the Si model, which only got 35 mpg, but was faster. There also was a mid-line model that was the biggest seller, I believe, that got 45 mpg. Other problem was that the insurance companies did not want to insure small, sporty, 2-seaters anymore, so the whole category eventually became extinct. It is like buying a red Porsche, insurers cringe. Wonder why? Can you say "young and immature male" or "midlife crisis male?" BTW my car was stolen by joyriders who trashed it, the first one of a thirty-day string of Honda thefts in my city. I would say get a bike, but those are stolen even more than cars are! Better walk to work...LOL.

I've heard stories of hypermilers getting high 60s mpg. I think most people got in the 40s though. Still really good and better than most hybrids today. But like with the muscle cars insurance rates just killed them. A person could get a standard trim Civic that still got really good gas mileage for about half the monthly premium that the CRX would have cost them. Plus the Civic had a lot more room as well.
