Scotty Kilmer My wife has a Mazda CX five 2018 and for some reason when you started up it makes a weird creaking noise like he barely wants to start I don’t know if it’s a fuel pump filter I don’t know but for 2018 Kia is shouldn’t be doing that and the brakes are ridiculous you pretty much go to press the pedal to the floor to get any break out of it I told her this is the worst car of ever been in

I owned a Mazda 3 and it was pretty shitty. In the end, its proneness to rust like hell took out the steering rack--a $2400 repair, which was worth more than the car itself (which had rusted to hell). The engine was fine, but the braking and suspension system was always having problems. In the end, the car died with 142,000 km on the clock, which is pretty pathetic. I've had a Subaru Legacy for 3 years now and the only thing that's gone wrong with it is the volume button on the steering wheel won't work. That said, I've gotten paranoid about the CVT going thanks to Scotty's videos and some other sources, and maybe the head gasket, though that SEEMS to have been corrected (it's a 2010).

Like scotty I would buy a Toyota any time without question. I had a Vibe/Matrix that lasted for over 15 years without even one problem ever. Now I absolutely would buy almost any Mazda with a manual gearbox. I might even buy a manual Subaru. But I would not expect the Subaru to last and although the Mazda would outlast the Subaru I don't think either would outlast my carolla. The biggest difference in most manufacturers just like scotty says are auto transmissions. My brother was a loyal Honda customer for decades. Honda started putting crappy autos in their cars. He had 2 civics, 2 accords, and a odyssey.... all of them broke. He's gone Toyota too. They just last. They're boring.... but they last.

Mazda's newer automatics are built in-house, although I think they're based on an earlier Aisin design. Some sources say it is an Aisin design, some say it was co-designed with Aisin, in any case not Jatco for sure. Specialist transmission websites and forums generally praise the reliability of the Skyactiv automatics, very few cases of failures.

Dear Scotty, I have a 2017 Mazda 6 with a Naturally Aspirated 2.5L SKYACTIV Inline 4. I love the car, it was build in Japan, and it shows. I bought the car because of the lower financing rates and my disappointment with my last Honda Civic (1.5 Turbo, it had oil dilution really bad, which makes sense as a Canadian that lives in one of the coldest places in the world come winter time) I also bought them because when I was doing autobody administration we had a few customers with high mileage Mazda CX-5s with the same motor as my Mazda 6, they ran great! They were at about 400,000 Kms (or just under 250,000 miles) and they sounded like new, the motors ran great, the electronics all work, there wasn't much wear on the interior. I asked them how reliable they have been, and aside from doing brakes a bit early, only scheduled routine maintenance. No transmission issues, but they don't tow much and their older so they likely don't drive aggressively. I have no issues with mine ether, but I drive lightly for better fuel efficiency. They've come a long way since their Ford-Owned, rust bucket days!

I got 2015 Mazda 3 built in Mexico and it's doing fine 106k miles later. Has the 2.0L Skyactiv. No rattles or anything odd. Still runs and drives like new. Steering wheel leather is looking a bit smooth and shiny but other than that no noticeable wear. Just changed the spark plugs at 104k miles for the first time as well as front brake pads. Rear pads were changed at 44k. Spark plugs looked fantastic, especially for a car that opens the throttle plate wide open at light loads and intentionally runs lean.

@@leonardoheras7223 also baby it. A heavy foot will blow seals and gaskets easier. Same for all cars but doubly so for older subarus. I bought a cx-5 new in 2013. This is the version with the 2.0 4cyl Skyactiv engine. I've had zero issues. The worst part of the design is the direct injection causes carbon to quickly build up on the valves. My valves started ticking around 99.000 miles. Valve cleaning fixed it. The best part is that it's very easy to work on. Most everything is super easy to access unlike many modern cars. I've done all maintenance myself (oil, brakes, transmission, coolant) -all very easy to service! I would definitely consider buying another Mazda.

I've owned Honda, Nissan, Toyota, and Mazda cars over the years and when I was younger I considered Honda to be the top brand but over the years I have started to shift my preference towards Mazda, it's a brand that you really don't think about but once you drive one, you finally realize the quality and driver-friendly nature it has, they are simply the best in terms of driving ergonomics, very comfortable to drive yet exciting at the same time due to its sporty nature. The only nitpick I have is that Mazda does not have a luxury division, so the one I'm currently driving is likely my last Mazda because I'm ready to step it up to the luxury tier, but I think Mazda is a brand that any person should experience while young, it's simply a very satisfying ride for the price.

Hasn’t Subaru built all their CVT transmissions in-house since 2014? So saying Jatco builds them isn’t very accurate. Also, Subaru did have a problem with head gaskets blowing, but those were early 2010s. The head gasket thing was fixed and hasn’t been an issue for Subaru in any of their models in years. Unless you’re buying a used one from the affected model years, why continue bringing this up? Trying to use a problem from over five years ago that’s since been fixed to try to criticize a brand isn’t very honest.

@IanSRutter
@IanSRutter 4 жыл бұрын
The biggest problem was that the gasket was single layer coated with a thin layer of carbon, That wore off and then the gasket would leak. They fixed the problem with a Multi layer gasket. It affected models were Impreza, Lagacy and Outback between 1999 and 2004. Later on a gasket or seal would start to leak on the oil filter, which was much easier to fix. I hear lots of people talk about the head gasket problem but they never mention the year or car and they don't acknowledge that it was ages ago and was fixed. The real problem was how Subaru addressed the problem which wasn't very business like and very anti-customer friendly. My brother has a 2009 Legacy and with regular servicing the thing is brilliant. I'm soon to purchase the new Forester. I have no problems with the brand.
